The 5 year plan to £50k

Yeah you're not autistic, that badge is thrown around far too often these days to the extent that it devalues the actual condition.

You've just lived a life as a recluse.

Force yourself to talk more and take better care or your appearance - not that there is anything necessarily wrong with it, but by conscientiously taking better care you will feel that you look better - your confidence will improve.

genuinely expected you to look younger/more feminine for some reason.

oddly i think a furry is about the only kinkster type i don't know lol

You're not a 30st slob, and i don't believe you have never kissed a girl either.

Funny how this thread is now totally not about earning 50k anymore ;)

It would be a little strange to lie about something like that, don't you think? Also I'm not lying :p

@Mynight: As you quite rightly said it's in my head. What that doesn't mean is that it's easy to fix. In some cases fixing your head is harder than fixing some physical problem. Like I said earlier I'm not blind to reality. I'm not a pretty boy, but I'm not Frankenstein's monster either. What I lack is social skills and confidence, and I have massive problems talking to women (unless it's business, like at work, in which case I do not make small talk, or flirt, or joke).

well 50k is a bit unreasonable 30+ is perfectly doable in that time though. you've been given the advice you've (deliberately i suspect) waited a few months so that most options are cut off because term time has started but you might still get on a course somewhere.

why havnt you?

I did, so you can too. :)

It's been 2 months since you made this thread, what have you done so far to get closer to 50k?

I do apologise, I seem to derail threads a lot :D

No need to apologise. It made me think a little. And in a good way, because what I was about to do would have made two people and one cat pretty miserable.

So now I just need to find my feet and get out of here! Which I always knew but didn't want to face up to.

As for the 50k thing, not a lot. Seems like an eternity since I started the thread tbh. I should sort my life out! Why doesn't anyone else find it so hard to move out? :p

Yay some positivity! :)

I've lived at home for all my life and I'm 28. I'm currently in the process of buying a house though and my parents want me to let it out for 2 years while I carry on living at home so that I can save money and not struggle with mortgage repayments, but I'm like oh no no noooo. It's time I moved out. Sure there are pros and cons to living at home, but you just need to try to think of more cons than pros :p

Someone want to make him an online dating profile? We need to find him a woman.

Seriously.
For some reason this reminds me of the film '40 year old Virgin' - where a bunch of work colleagues try to help the guy get laid :D

Day ? Thinking out loud.

Offshore
Pros: money, time off
Cons: Dangerous, loud, no pets allowed (defeats object of moving out!)
Unknowns: skills/attributes required (strength? fitness?)
Risk: high

Move up north
Pros: cheap(er) housing
Cons: distance from family
Unknowns: wage difference from Cornwall, jobs market
Risk: medium

Move abroad
Pros: fresh start, different scenery, adventure
Cons: language barrier, distance from family
Unknowns: jobs market, housing market
Possibility of working overseas arranged by a company in the UK? Doing what?
Risk: high

Devon (Somerset, Dorset)
Pros: more jobs, better pay, less distance to family
Cons: housing not as cheap as up north?
Unknowns: jobs market
Risk: medium/low

Need more info about jobs outside of Cornwall.
In the short term, if I want to move out as soon as possible, maybe stick to IT as that’s all I know? Trying to change too much in one go (house, job, lifestyle, career) could be recipe for failure. Not sure if true or not.

Places to look for jobs
Jobsite, jobsearch, monster?
Investigate linkedin (what is it good for?)

Places to upload CVs
?

Places to look for houses
Rightmove

Places to look for rental accommodation

A quick note about further education
I still have no plans to go back to full time education
1. I’m not good at academic learning. I’m much more likely to learn something if I’m using it to do my job.
2. I can’t afford the astronomical costs of self-funded learning, esp when my first priority is moving out which will increase my outgoings tenfold.
3. I don’t qualify for any loans because I used them already, and still owe thousands for my time at uni.
If my employer wants to send me on a course that’s fine, but otherwise I’m ruling this out. Sorry.
Other forms of training (like just reading a book) are fine.

Other info required
How to get a mortgage. How to choose a mortgage.
What other costs of buying a house. What is stamp duty, etc.
How to not get ripped off when buying a house.
Process of getting a tenant. Better than buying a smaller house/flat? Not sure.

One of the problems with me is if a task looks massive and overwhelming I avoid it. Will need to get over this. Lots of things to do, lots of choices to make. Easy to be overwhelmed now.

If you are wanting this arbitrary £50k figure, location is secondary to developing your skill set and career path choice.

Right now you have just listed a bunch of different locations and made up arguments against moving. With that attitude at best you'll move sideways.

No the 50k figure is actually not helpful. It was what I thought I'd need to earn to move out with only one salary/income. It was entirely based around being able to buy a house. Nothing more. I don't want a Ferrari. I don't want a 2nd home in Greece.

Just my own pad. That is my sole ambition (plus cats :p)
