The Acer ONE Thread

I said the solid state drive version, not the harddrive version.

Perhaps tsinc80697 was just clarifying that the 120GB, 512MB version came with a pouch as did my 120GB, 1MB, Linux version. My earlier 8GB SSD, 512MB one also had a pouch.

Early pouches open on the narrow/short edge. Now the pouches have the opening on the wide/long edge so that AA1s with (official) 6-cell batteries can fit in. Whether or not a pouch was included seems to vary with when and where the AA1 was purchased.

What kind of price can you get a 120GB 1GB Linux with 6 cell battery for, if they do that model at all??

AFAIK there are no AA1s with the six-cell battery available in the UK.

BTW due for release on 1st December are 1GB/16GB SSD & 1GB/160GB HD models, with linux or XP in white, blue, brown and pink. They're available with or without built in 3G modems.

They have VGA out so you could probably get a VGA to svideo but dont quote me on that!

Think Im going to grab a new battery after christmas, upto 9 hours would be great on the ONE!

edit:

Also does anyone have quite a large difference in brightness between bottom and top? Seems to be a fair bit of light escaping from the bottom bezel

You got a pouch with the ssd version cool. Wish I did. Mind you I don't take it out much.

Might be common knowledge to everyone but, press ctrl+alt+left arrow

Imagine doing that in a game and not knowing what the heck just happened! Thought my acer was going crazy lol
Ive also managed to get the language to change to chinese/japanese in linux by accident and couldnt get out of it for ages lol

Should come with warnings these netbooks!

I'm just been given the task of getting a 3G USB modem working with one of these.. Is it even possible?!

Dont see why not, which dongle you using? Just google that dongle and aspire one, should sort you out :)

Im still debating to get one now, or pick up one of the new 6cell ones in the jan sales

Just got the 8gb linpus version for the little one for christmas, i'm really impressed by it, i had to give it abit of a test just incase it was DOA :D

Its got to go to santa now :(

I like the look of this laptop was thinking of getting one for work stuff.

So all it will be doing is websurfing, email, office and other software.

or would the samsung be better?

I personally would NOT recommend any netbook (Acer, Asus, MSI, Samsung, Toshiba, HP etc) to be used as a primary PC. The screen (8.9" or 10.2" both have 1024 x 600 resolution), keyboard and trackpad are too small.
