The Acer ONE Thread

Well after a few weeks of having windows 7 installed I decided to wipe the netbook and put win xp on there using my xbox360 hd-dvd drive.

Windows 7 did run but it wasn`t as fast at doing things as I would have liked and the wi-fi had a habit of switching off randomly which took a couple of resets to get running again which was starting to become very annoying.

I defently think it would be faster if I upgraded the ram but TBH Xp runs like a dream on the base spec and even though its not as pretty it still works and besides when I get my job as an IT tech the company I will be working for uses XP so its easer for me to trouble shoot if I get a call at home and I have somthing with XP installed on it.

Hey , my 360 HD-DVD isn't being picked up by my acer-one :( Bios / booting crashes if its plugged in. I need Windows on aghhhh

Silly little issue here, and I can't seem to find the option to stop it from happening.

When watching a video on Youtube or iPlayer (for example) the laptop screen will go black and turn off (like a power saving option) meaning you have to press a button on the keyboard or move the cursor.

Is there anything I can do to turn this off?

Hello Aspire One owners.

I'm thinking about getting the AOA150-Ab model and I was wondering if someone could give me an idea about how long the battery would last? Its the 1gb/120gb/linux model.

Also will it play standard def AVI's ok?

Thanks

Will play AVI's with no issues.

Battery about 2 hours

But after owning an Acer One, I would not buy one, the Fan noise is terrible.

There is an application to adjust the settings but then the unit gets hot.

The Dell mini 9 is silent.

Unless the Acer is very cheap avoid it, there is better on the market now.

I've had two AA1's and the first one (Blue,SSD) fan was more than just audible, 2nd and current AA1 (White, 120GB HD) the fan is near silent.

If you already have an Acer there's really no point in upgrading till a new chipset etc. comes out but if your looking to buy your first netbook and can afford/justify the Samsung NC10 then thats the one to go for. But there is no performance advantage over the Acer it's just more refined and the battery lasts longer :)

I have a printer question:

My Mum's wanting to get a WiFi printer for using with the Acer ONE, but I've no experience with WiFi printers. Will any printer work with the ONE running linux? I'm not sure how the driver situation will work with it being WiFi.

Cheers

Hi,

just picked one up today and put XP on it. Got the 120gb one.

Anyway transferring files over the network is REALLY slow, I mean 300 megs will take over an hour. Been playing with different network drivers but with no luck, just wondering what drivers you guys are using?

I've just recently purchased a A150 for £129 and i'm loving it.

The only problem i have is the keyboard is very bouncy as if it isn't secured properly and this is making me very cautious when typing on it. Is this normal on the Acer One netbooks?

sorry i can't really say as they are technically a competitor sorry :(

On another note i've fixed the bouncy keyboard. It was never secured in correctly so i just firmly pushed the top of the keyboard till it clipped in securely :)

I'll be trying this when I get home - sounds like it resolves a lot of the problems with bad write speeds on the SSD machines - basically caches the small writes to RAM and writes in one go by the sound of it.

This is an excellent mod. There are other ways of achieving the same thing, but they are more invasive. Flashpoint makes my Acer One faster and more responsive. Other than those benefits, I wouldn't know it was installed.
