i stopped doing a back day with like 6 exercises with 3 sets per exercise and now train at home and do 3x10 wide pullups, 3x12 bent over rows and my lats are now bigger than ever even after doing the back day once a week for the last 3 years.

i now train 1day 2days off 1day on in successive days ,full body, after 4 weeks i just pick one exercise drop the weight a bit and do 10x10 on just the one bodypart each consecutive day and then back to fullbody.

Glad its working for you mate but 6 sets and 2 exercises for back isn't going to be optimal for most people, same with < 3 full body workouts a week. I haven't read FF's but I'm always highly sceptical of those e-mag type articles where the author and the guy they're training don't even look like they lift :\

heh, dunno if I'll get some flaming for this or not.

Thought I'd try out Thermopure from myprotein (http://www.myprotein.co.uk/capsules-tablets-softgels/weight-loss/thermopure/) It gets good reviews, it's cheap, and I thought i'd give it a go!

Now I'm not really on a 'plan' to cut or bulk, if anything it aligns slightly with what I thinkFreefaller's methodology is of a lifestyle change, eating clean, working hard. Since Thermopure doesn't seem to have anything 'crazy' in it, and doesnt have scary effects of things like Hot Rox (seeing flashing lights etc!), I bought some in the hope that it may accelerate some fat loss. While fat loss isnt a huge goal for me, it's always nice, and if this supplement works? Brilliant, if not? it was only just a bit more than a tenner anyway! I'm by no means 'fat' at all by the way, 5ft 11, 75kg, nothing is hanging over my belt line and I fit perfectly into medium clothing.

Took my first dosage today, today's workout was cardio/running, (I've got a 5k next week ), took 3 tabs about 15 minutes before I got to the gym, I was using a treadmill today for some speedwork/intervals. My stomach felt warm, like drinking coffee on an empty stomach. Within 5 minutes of my warm up I was sweating, not hugely, but normally takes about 10 mins for it to kick in normally in my warmup. I was expecting this anyway from reading peoples experiences.

Then something happened which others experience, about halfway through my HIIT, I was able to go through the intense section, have 60 seconds active rest, then just feel full of energy going into the next part, I ended up going for longer than I usually do, sweat was pouring off me, and I felt great! This is due to I guess the Caffeine in it (I drink coffee profusely so was surprised I still felt the affect) and possibly some other stuff, but I felt like I could go on forever!

Afterwards I certainly felt like I had a REALLY good workout, can't wait till tomorrow's weights workout to see what this brings and if the boost will push me further.

Now...all this could be placebo, all due to the caffeine, the combination of sweating and feeling like I'm having a hard workout, or anything really.

But if consistantly it helps me to work a lot harder, and if it does at least 'assist' in me to lose fat, then this is a thumbs up, I will report back about this in a week's time.

I do think he does have a point about over training though - a lot of sources would agree. I must admit since doing AGVT I've gained so much more than my normal routine where I definitely over trained. But that's possibly just down to my own training though - I was just using that 1 example as... er.. an example :)

Guys just after a bit of an advice, have being training now for the past 4 weeks for 6 days, rest day on a Sunday! My body is fine and taking to the none stop routine fine, should I stick to 6 days or does my body need longer to recover??

I tend to hit the weights to work on my chest and shoulders, plus use a lot of free weights! Average workout is 1 -1 hour 30 there is two of us so we tend to have a little rest between sets etc! My buddy is huge so it’s good as he pushes me big-time! We do work legs too!!! :)

FF- I agree mate, real over training is a very real concern for some people, just not the vast majority of people that go on about it :p As you know I've recently dropped volume to about 1/4 of what it was.

Nige- So what are you doing chest shoulders and legs twice? You say at the start that your body is fine and taking the routine fine so why do you think you need more rest? Are you feeling mentally drained?

Just being reading a lot and it seems a lot of people do a 4 day split or take more than one day off as they say it’s good for you rather than training all the time! My body is fine, no problems at all other than feeling great and mega pumped after a session :D When I go tomorrow I will write my routing down and ask for all the correct names for the equipment and let you guys know what weights too.

I so don't miss my creatine days, my limbs would spasm like crazy after a heavy work out without warning:D. Mad times getting to a chair.

Hmm, I've recently been getting extremely severe, sudden and painful cramps in one of my calves when jogging back from the gym after a hard session. Started on the creatine about 6 weeks ago. Never figured it might be the cause...

i train 7 days a week ie m,w,s,t,f etc just different days

so for example i do 90 pullups and 108 bor
108 military presses
108 bench presses
etc i exercise per body part compound lifts only
per week

my old split routine for back was

pullups 3x10
seated row3x10
bor 3x10
dl 3x10

120 reps per week

now i do

bor 12x3 3times a week =108
pullups 3x10 a week = 90 reps

so with just 2 exercises i am already doing more volume for my back and its not lying dormant for 6 days, i also swap squats and dl about on some workouts so back can get an extra 36 reps of dl per week

split routine better for enhanced people i reckon which only came popular once the juice hit the scene go back to before that era and full body was way to go

Not enjoying training too much without any leg work. Doctor referred me, so seeing a consultant next Wednesday about the knee.

FF, reckon AGVT could work without any direct leg work (except possibly light STIFF leg deadlifts?).

There's quite a big focus on legs Paz. i.e. a whole training session for it twice in 10 days. That's 90mins of leg work per session, so quite a fair bit. Sure it can work for other parts of the body, but as you are no doubt aware legs have a huge amount to play in muscle development as they have a very big percentage of your body's muscle mass - the more they are trained the more your body needs to boost everything to rebuild then, thus also raising the levels throughout your body enabling better anabolic responses to training.

However with a leg injury I'd give it a miss until your knee is better really matey - not worth risking it surely?

I had some good news from work last week, I'd requested to start earlier allowing me a long lunch 2 days a week so I can go to the gym. This means I can go to the gym without eating in to my evening after work as much as it did (as I also play footy so I have footy training and matchdays).

I also come back to work in the afternoon energised and refreshed after a workout. For some reason I feel really alert and I've got loads of energy after a workout. This week is the first week I'm doing this routine and I've enjoyed hitting the quiet gym on a lunchtime.

Today is the 2nd day of the week for a long lunch so instead of doing some weights I'm going to go for a swim, sauna and steam for a bit of cardio. It should do my legs good after yesterdays leg day.

Just coming back to a point made in an earlier post about a wide grip for Bench Press. The last time I did chest and triceps I felt a pain in my left shoulder. Now I go quite wide on the bar so I can target the chest more than triceps but the above comments has made me a bit concerned after this pain I experienced.

I think I might reassess how I hold the bar now I'm starting to move up the weights a bit. I'll try with my ring finger on the groove in the barbell and see how I get on.

Well after another period of illness, depression etc i was going to get back to training next week only to find all my weights have been stolen. Looks like it's gym time then lol.

I'd wait to see what the specialist says mate. Make sure you let him know that lifting is very important to you, sometimes they can advise you on what lifts/rehab to do instead of the usual "don't do anything with it" advice they might give a normal person.

Anyway, don't worry, if you can't do any legs it just means you can finally live your dream of being a bench 'n' curl boy :p

Yeh the consultant is on Wednesday then see where it goes from there.

Very annoying. Trying to do a 3/4 day upper body only workout is quite difficult and I've really noticed my stamina/cardio side of things has decreased since stopping the strongman training. My recovery seems to be worse as well and I'm not sure why, my diet is very strict.

Geh. On a plus side benching twice a week is good and I managed a very long and painful rep @ 127.5kg on Tuesday.
