*** The all new iPhone 4 thread - Keep all iPhone 4 stuff in here ***

Corrected for you ;)

Not sure what I'll do, probably stick with Vodafone.
:p O2 is actually good in my area, so I don't mind them.

Same EVH :) Going to grab 16GB white if the price isn't too bad, sim-free! Staying with Simplicity as its £20 a month for everything I need!

I was checking the site for someone the other day, and it seems they've changed the tariffs for iPhone simplicity. They do a cheaper £15/month tariff which I'm considering.

I also skipped the 3GS and went with the Simplicity Tarriff...

Do you reckon its really cost effective to buy PAYG? it might pan out over the course of 18 months but its not as good for cashflow..

If you use the sale of the handset to buy the new model, yes.

As I skipped the 3GS I know the handset won't be worth as much but I've now had a good 2 years to save, so it works out.

Not really. If you're on PAYG, O2 do a Web bolt on, you top up 10 a month and get a load of net access as well as your £10 talk time and whatever kind of bonus texts tarriff you're set up on. As for contract users, they usually have the same thing, or free wifi in places like Starbucks, Wetherspoons and McDonalds so if you're out and about it's likely you'll be in a hotspot and if you aren't then that's where 3G comes in.

Sorry I worded that part badly, you need a net connection on the move to access the radio, something you do not always have or want to use if you are on a FUP for data. Free WIFI is not an exclusive thing for the iPhone though and any phone with a WIFI connection will be able to utilise that feature.

I have to be honest and say I haven't actually tried, I don't think anyone has ever asked me to send a picture via bluetooth, infact, the last bluetooth related thing I did was in the school playground. iPhone to iPhone transfers are a piece of cake though, not tried bluetooth I must admit.

Fair enough, but bluetooth is something I have found useful and do use.

It's not really a necessity seeing as the majority of videos are viewed on YouTube and the majority of YouTube's videos already work on the iPhone, not to mention BBC iPlayer which also works perfectly.

That works for videos that are set up like that, what about websites that use flash (which most do to a larger or lesser extent) I could not for example watch live news or sport on the BBC website or watch the Hockey highlights on NHL.COM. Also some sites contain that much flash that you couldn't navigate them without a flash player, cant remember one of the top of my head but there are a few demos on youtube and at the Android 2.2 launch.

I don't mean this in a patronising way at all but I think you need to live with the phone day to day for a period of time before you critique it.:)

No offence taken, I have used iPhones, not daily admittedly and I agree with a lot of the comments regarding the UI and ease of use, hell I was even tempted to get one at one point. I am just looking around to see if there is any reason for me to still look at getting one after seeing other platforms updates. People correcting any ignorance that I may regarding the phone are useful. just as people like myself pointing out the iPhones limitations is useful . :)

Mobile me sent me a lovely nice email about this this morning.

Any news on when its out and how much this is going to cost me? :p

I think if we keep dissecting each others posts then we'll be here all day. :p :D

If you're interested in NHL, like me, then I found the icetime app pretty useful, has full highlights of every game as well as live scores, profiles on every player in the league etc, think it was about £2 but I can't remember as I bought it at the beginning of the season which has just ended.

It's good to have someone of a different opinion giving their insights and in no way do I think the iPhone is some untouchable messia of the smartphone world it does have its drawbacks, but what I like about it mainly is the fact that for me it's quick and very easy to use. I won't be getting the iPhone 4, as I'm quite happy with what I've got at the moment. My 3G does everything I want it to and more. :)

I'm not far in to a contract with Voda on my 3GS, I'm just buying the phone from Apple and will use my Voda sim in it.

I dont want any of that crap, the desire is full of stuff you just DONT need.

People keep coming back to the iphone because of 3 reasons

- It looks fantastic
- Its simplicity to use
- It WORKS ...

The HTC isnt a bad phone but its just too "complicated" trying to do anything and everything its just not what a lot of people want. Im glad they have not changed the software side of things too much and if they did half of the stuff you said then i think you would find apple would have shot themselves in the foot.

The iphone is a massive success, if its not broken dont fix it :)

I agree the iPhone is a massive success obviously, and that is mainly down to it's marketing and simple nature. It's also had nothing to fear, until recently.

You could argue some of the stuff on Android/HTC is rubbish and you don't need it, however some the things I suggested are far from anything like that. They greatly improve the user experience and the way you can use the phone.

It's far from complicated and I would be worried about you if you thought that :p

It looks to me as if a lot of people would be ordering this if it was the 3GS with a new case and new camera :( It's what I expected though! :p

So glad I've got a Simplicity tariff, and skipped the 3GS.

Buy the handset PAYG, pop in a micro-sim and go. I never want to be tied in with O2 ever again :p

Reckon we'll be cutting them down or they'll transfer an iPhone simplicity contract over to a micro-sim?

I'd imagine it'll be close to what the 3GS prices were. Rarely do Apple products increase in price, even when the new model arrives.

Glad i switched to 02 Simplicity a few months ago. Can just walk into the Apple store and buy the White 32GB iPhone 4 :) Yummy. Probably going to be about £550 but if you think on an 02 Contract they will be offering;

24 Month Contract, £35 Month, £150 Outlay for the iPhone. So that's an overall cost of;

Nearly £1,000.....Yikes.

So instead, i will be paying £20 per month for the same but better iPhone Contract i had....saving nearly £500. :) Bargain? No?

Do you actually know apple will sell them unlocked? Because when I purchased my 3gs it had to either be o2 or orange...

eh?

its almost exactly the same...

£35 x 24 + £150 = £990

vs.

£20 x 24 + £550 = £1030

Which is why I'm trying to decide wether the advantage of not being tied in is a bigger "pro" than the "con" of the initial outlay...
