Apple store is likely to be pay&go only. They don't have the facilities to sign you to a network/tariff and subsidize the price.

Exactly what I intend to do. Going to buy the iP4, preferably from the Apple Store sometime today and lob my current Simplicity 20 sim into it. My 3G has already been sold for £310 so I'm sorted.
