********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

Just put the old sim in, assuming the phone is unlocked.

Most providers can give you a new micro sim, I did just that at O2 today in prep for receiving my 4S soon.

Ok, I am not on an iPhone plan though? I am on the one that came with my HTC.
Does that matter?

Out of interest though, my sister is in new York now and if she bought an iPhone 4s will it work over here?

I cut my sim card - I didn't want to wait around for Three to swap my account over to the new sim card.

Unless you're with O2 where they have some iPhone specific stuff such as visual voice mail, it shouldn't matter whether you have an iPhone contract or not.

Is anyone else getting poor battery life?

Mine is currently showing 6hrs usage and 9 hrs standby since last charge but I've hardly used it today. Battery is down to 47%.

Mobile data usage is low, it's setup to sync with google via their exchange service. Bluetooth is also off.

1. Does not matter
2. If she buys it sim free, yes it will work fine here.

I think Apple have a world warrenty but i am not sure.

Try charging the phone right up and then running down until it's empty to make sure the battery monitoring is fully calibrated.

Yeah having a read around there's no way it should drain that fast, and it shouldn't be showing 6 hrs usage over a 9 hr period. I'll have a play with settings and apps to try and figure out what's killing it.

It'd be nice to have more detail on battery and cpu usage similar to how android does it.

Mine's doing that, but I think I have at least one clue why. Watch out for a rotating sync icon in the notification area. If you see it, something is up with either wi-fi sync or iCloud and you should go stop whatever it is. In my case, it's been trying to complete a wi-fi sync for most of the day. That'll most certainly eat the battery.

I'm going to let it drain completely and then fully recharge so that it resets the battery status. You shouldn't regularly deep-discharge an li-ion battery because they do have a limited number of charge cycles and thus it can shorten the life of the battery, but occasionally it's necessary.

There isn't a jailbreak for the 4S or the iPad 2 running iOS5 yet. There is a tethered jailbreak for all other devices on iOS5, but tethered jailbreaks are pointless
Wouldn't say they are pointless.. got the iOS5 JB on the 1st gen iPad. The rare time I might need to restart it I will be in trouble, though I might have my laptop on me anyway. For a phone though unless you really need something from JB I wouldn't on a tethered JB.

If you do jailbreak, I'd treat OTA updates with the same caution you've treated iTunes updates. Assuming what I've just read about the betas still applies, there's no going back once you've started an iOS update - any update.

I've already decided I'm not going to bother any more. Everything bar SBSettings and five icon dock that I used to jailbreak for is now in the OS, and I can do without both of those. I do still wish I had my old-bootrom 3GS to play with, but I don't.

Hmmmm, my 4S wont work in the car. Using the official Alpine full speed cable....

http://www.alpine-electronics.co.uk/products/product-singleview/ipod-cables/kce-433iv.html

The 4 still works as does her iPod, but the 4S isn't recognised at all, doesn't charge either.... :(

Does this mean i am gonna have to buy a new 4S cable or something!?

Anyone else had this?

Don't see why the 4S should present itself any differently to a car kit/cable than does the 4. My 4S works fine in the car, both the bluetooth and the power/aerial connections.

People with the 4S, how is the 1080p, it has really bad stuttering on some of the online samples. Is this a problem with a few phones or all of them?
