********** The all new "Official" iPhone 4S thread - Keep all the iPhone 4S stuff in here **********

I don't get it though, why bother with SMS alternatives when these days people get them for free or 5000. It's far quicker. I could understand it when we paid ** pence per text or had a 50 or 100 limit but these dayts why do you need an sms alternative?

I'd say it's mainly due to sharing of data, photo's, audio and video clips.
And group features if/when needed.

For me, things like imessage and whatsapp are a godsend for staying touch with people abroad, but I see your point about why bother using in the UK as unlimted SMS is becoming more and more common.

People in the UK seem to be in a very unique situation regarding texting. Majority of countries in the world don't have tariffs bundled with lots of texts like us.

Also as people have already pointed out this is a good thing for the iPod and iPad to be incorporated.

Yep this.

AT&T in America do something like 1000 texts for $10 or unlimited for $20, if you always text people on iOS5 then can save yourself some money each month.

Most contracts and even PAYG deals bundle lots of free texts in the UK so its not so important for us

Damnit, I've just noticed a chip on the left side of my iPhone. Today is the first time I have taken it out of the house, as I was still using my old phone whilst I wait for my number to transfer, so it was definitely there when I unboxed it. It has spent the past few days in an Oakley Microfibre Bag on my bedside table, except for last night where I used it around the house for a bit but it hasn't been dropped and certainly hasn't been upside down anywhere. I got it from Three. Should I take it to an Apple store or call Three for a replacement as I kinda expect it to be in perfect condition since it isn't cheap. Will an Apple store replace it for me even if not purchased from them?

I should clarify that the chip is on the silver metal on the side, not on the glass surfaces.

Doesn't matter where you bought it, if it's an Apple device you can take it to an Apple Store. That's the beauty of it... simples :)

Just bought the 16GB white version from the Apple Store (online), gone from order received to processing items. Dispatched: 1 - 2 Weeks Delivers 25 Oct, 2011 - 01 Nov, 2011

Will go into the Apple store on Wednesday and possibly Friday to see if they have any in stock anyway, I'm not patient! If they do I will just cancel the online order (if I still can)

Money been removed from my bank already.

I'm having a bit of trouble with Siri.

If I say "remind me to buy milk when I leave home" it works splendidly.

However, if I say "remind me to buy milk when I leave Dad's home" it asks me when I'd like it to remind me.

I have an address set for "Dad" and can even set this same thing up via Reminders directly, so how do you add a location based reminder for someone else's address?

Just seen that these are now available for reservation in store.

Reserve iPhone 4S SIM-free or with a mobile contract (both upgrades and new connections) from 9pm tonight for in-store pickup tomorrow. iPhone 4S with a contract is also available at the Apple Store for walk-in purchases on a first-come, first-served basis.

I have posted this in the accessories thread, but seeing as we're talking mobile coverage...

This was a speedtest I ran earlier (3 network) :)
