I'm looking for some free AV and firewall to go on an HTPC and I'm thinking about Avast and Comodo, the only thing I don't like is the constant pop-up nag screens and offers they give each time the computer is switched on, it's a real pain!

I use comodo free firewall and av on my htpc. Using Windows 8 and media portal (boots straight into MP) and don't get any pop ups whilst actually in media portal.

I'm having a problem with Kaspersky Internet security 2014. I just renewed my subscription and upgraded from 2013 on Friday. When I was using my PC yesterday everything seemed to be ok.

When I booted up earlier today all of the protections had been disabled. I was able to re enable them all but now when I boot they are all switched off again.

I have run full scan in normal and safe mode and Kaspersky is not detecting any Viruses. Does anyone know how to resolve the problem?

Edit: I have re-installed Kaspersky and the problem still persists.

Check your start up file see if its enabled for run at start up.

Either with Ccleaner (free app)or Msconfig in Search

It is not displayed in the startup list in Msconfig. How do I add it?

It is enabled to run at start up within the Kaspersky program settings.

I have been using Avast for some time now, but since going with Windows 8, I have had issues with Avast and Thunderbird under Win8.

So, I have gone back to NOD32.

Very happy with both, but I only need EMail access with one PC so thats NOD32 and all the other PCs are still Avast.

An update for Avast came out a few days ago, fixes issues in Windows 8 making if fully compatible

have had all sorts of issues with my web pages changing to deltasearch and a few others. I found a website that suggested downloading a program called trojen killer, anyhow its sorted my web search issues.

but to eradicate the trojens it wants me to purchase a license at $40, is there a british cheaper version?

Delta search is usually installed with free software. You need to pay attention to the dialogues.

Don't pay for trojan killer. Use malwarebytes in safe mode if possible. Don't forget to update the definitions before performing a full system scan.

It should be possible to install this version on top of your existing avast! installation (all settings should be preserved).

Also, please try to update through UI (using the in-program updater). If you notice anything unusual related to the installation, networking, please let us know. Network component
(including FW) and setup component have been redesigned, so any negative signs should be checked. Thanks in advance!

Not here its not... RC3 broke my Internet Explorer. Wouldn't connect to the net till I went back to Defender. RC2 was ok but gui was a bit buggy for me.

Did you update via GUI?...I'm using free basic version rather then paid versions,still no issues for me.

I did the update via Avast GUI,they want you to do that for feedback,anyway saves uninstalling Avast all the time .
