Hi guys,

My Nod32 is running out in 4 days ofc they have sent an email and offering 2years(2pc) £50quid. of course a no brainer...

As im stuck for cash can i get away with using a free one like microsoft security etc? Having never used anything else for the last 2 years. .. don't know what to trust.

I haven't used it personally, but have installed MS SE on several friends PC's. Its kept them clean so far. Also it is recommended by a Malware Removal forum too.

In your shoes it is what I would go for, especially as it integrates with MS Defender.

Just keep of the dodgy sites to be sure ;)

Yes. Choice of AV is unlikely to be the deciding factor between infection and no infection. Keep everything including the OS up-to-date and think before you click. Don't use Java!

If you were to buy either Kaspersky 2013 Antivirus or ESET NOD32 Antivirus 6, which would it be? Both are £29.99.

I'm going to give both a trial, but if anyone's used either and can offer some input then that'd be appreciated. I'm aware MSE/Defender is free and good enough for most, but I'm after something with more features and grunt.

I've run Kaspersky Internet Security 2012 and now I'm onto 2013.
I've had minimal number of issues with 2012, but just 20mins ago I had to reinstall 2013 as the license key decided to just go missing from the registry

Anti-Virus

I've currently got Kaspersky Internet Security; however I've found it to be quite bloated these days. I've just done a fresh install of WIn 8 as I've replaced my Intel 80GB with a Samsung 840 Pro 256. What do people use these days?

Surprised more people don't use BitDefender considering its won every award going for the past 2-3 years.

I had a 5 user 3 year license for Bitdefender for all my office PCs until they released an update that managed to trash three of the main machines because they hadn't checked it properly before putting it out.

It caused massive issues for thousands of users putting computers into BSOD loops, t'was a complete nightmare. Though I should say it was probably 3-4 years ago...I'm sure they've learned their lesson since then!

I've stuck with Kaspersky since and have been very happy with it.

I'm looking for some free AV and firewall to go on an HTPC and I'm thinking about Avast and Comodo, the only thing I don't like is the constant pop-up nag screens and offers they give each time the computer is switched on, it's a real pain!
