Gantz was edited for the TV release over in japan but the DVD release is ment to be the unedited version. the first ep had a scene in which i was surprised wasn't cut.
Thing is, the whole point of Gantz is that you dont know whats going to happen next... you cant guess the ending or even if there ever will be one so to speak. You dont know if the party is going to be half wiped out or if the main characters about to be killed or not.

... the whole ethos is about imagining how you would react under a similar circum stance etc - hence why I suppose they can 'justify' the fairly horrendus level of graphic detail - old grannies being decapitated etc. So once you have seen it the first time, there is little point ever watching it again - as there is no point to the series if you actually know whats going to happen next.

Hence why it would make a pretty stipid CD purchase at their prices - all that money on something you never intend to watch a 2nd time. Either buy the manga and find a transcript or just accept you wont watch the series if you dont do managa and look at something else instead. Which would be a shame as Gantz really is pretty original.

Not quite, as I rate the manga so highly.

Just the subs are useless as they cut too much out and buying the DVD's is difficult to justify for something you only watch once.

I dont mind buying anime if its something I'll watch more than once.

i think it's going to be a continuation of the school stories (based on the manga/books).

I can't rightly remember though as it's been a while since I last read about it (check ANN for news on it).

Just seen the preview of Full Metal Panic : The Second Raid. And it looks very cool. It looks like its a continuation of the first series with the mechs (woo!).

what are peoples thoughts on Get Backers?
Allegedly supposed to get better after the first couple of eppisodes (could be talking about most anime here), but I found the first 2 a bit lame and didnt deem it worth investigating further. Also seems to be favoured by the sorts of people into Naruto etc which didnt inspire confidence at the time it came out, but there do seem to be *a lot* of people who rated it highly. So I would suggest you investigate it if the series descriptions take your fancy.

the only anime on sky these days tends to be the odd film (spirited away on movies for example), and things like DBZ, Pokemon etc.
Although I beleive Toonami(?) are currently showing One Piece.

Sci-Fi haven't shown any for about a year now :(

Incidentally, has anyone noticed there's TWO new Cowboy Bebop manga series out? Well, I don't actually know if they're new, but I've certainly only just noticed them, sitting on the shelves in Borders. They only had the first issue of each series in, and I sat down and read them in their cafe. One of the two, Cowboy Bebop: Shooting Star, is an alternate take on the story, and I can't say I liked it much, especially since they changed the art style slightly. The other one though seems to be a continuation of the original story, and although obviously it can never be the same without the soundtrack, I liked the little that I saw of it!

Bugger!! Thought there hadn't been any threads recently.

Just finished wathcing the first volume of full metal panic, and i must say its very good! the story is a mixture of comedy and serouis (mostly comedy) only saw the first episode and then decided to order the second volme

Has anyone seen 'mind game'?

I really love it - though the plot is off-the wall almost and it has some pretty deep and philisophical points at stages throughout the film. I also like the animation techniques used in it, how human faces are used at some parts.

LC i'll move it this evening :)

Manveruppd, Hellsing is pretty good :)
as you say it's probably a bit cheesy in places but very enjoyable, great style and some odd humourious moments if my memory serves :)

Anyone else watching/collecting Azumanga Daioh?
I watched the 5th volume last night and couldn't stop laughing for practically two hours, and yetthe series is one that I never would have thought I'd actually enjoy (i'm sure i've probably said that before), and only tried because people were raving about it :)
