Just out of curiosity, did they ever show the americanised version of Gatchaman in this country? I remember watching it as a kid back in the '80s (they called it 'Battle of the Planets'), and it's only recently that I discovered that it's actually a japanese anime. It must've been HEAVILY edited before it was shown in the west because I read that the original japanese version featured lots of blood, explicit and pretty gory violence and mutilations, and even a gay romantic subplot!

yup, we had it in the 80's (I vaguely remember thinking that Princess was "hot" when i was much much younger:p)).

I'm not sure if we had the U.S version or our own edit though, but i'd guess it was the U.S one.
IIRC the bad guy/girl was actually a hermaphrodite in the unedited version and a member of the team was killed(?) I think.
I beleive the unedited version was about 120 episodes and we got about 90 odd, or something like that.

Some really good news for Hellsing fans, according to AnineodDVD Hellsing is getting a new OVA series :D

ipTV Tradeshow News (03:34 PM EDT): About a week ago we were told to keep an eye out for some interesting Geneon news to come out of the MipTV tradeshow in France, which is one of the many shows throughout the year where new series, properties and licenses are looked at, promoted, bought and sold and all that fun stuff. Thanks to an extremely reliable source, we've got three pieces of news that as far as I can tell can be called exclusives here:

One: Geneon Entertainment (USA) is involved in a new Hellsing OVA series. No number of episodes is listed but they're talking 35 minutes per episode and based on actual manga material.

First Ah My Goddess gets a long overdue TV series (which is pretty good), then Funi make it known that they want to try and pursuade the Japanese it's worth doing more Fruits Basket, and now more Hellsing is announced :D
I wonder what is next?

And with that thought i'll move this to entertainment :)

i think we see Haruka Blush (once?) in Love Hina Again.

Talking of Love Hina Again, did i mention it's now been announced in Ausralia (and i beleive has a release date set), so I suspect we'll get an announcement here fairly soon.

a little tip

keep a list on your PC of titles as you order them/or they are announced and you want to order them.

I use Excel and note down the rough release dates of discs ammending it as the actual release dates are announced (mid grey).
Then I change the colour for the title when it's pre-ordered/ordered (to red) and note the retailer/price*, and finally note the day it's shipped (when it changes colour again to green), and received (when it changes colour a final time to black).

With that system I can tell at a glance what i've got ordered, what is shipping and plan well ahead as I can ink in rough dates for a whole series when the first disc's release is announced (I can tell looking at it that i've got 1 disk in the post, 4 discs on order for May, 4 for June, and 1 for July, although there is one July disk that isn't ordered yet).

I got into the habit of doing that a long time ago because I was using anything up to 5 different retailers and it was a real pain in the neck keeping track of them, especially as DVDprofiler for all it's good points can be very slow to show new titles.

*it also allows for me to note the region, format (PAL/NTSC), number of disks, order number and notes for things like customs and if a disk is lost in the post (2 in 3 years)
