anybody seen gunsmith cats, heard about it on the evangelion commentaries evrywhere seems to be selling the NTSC version.....

It's very good, iirc it's an early 90's OVA based on the Masimurow Shirow Manga of the same title.
It's got a good mix of action and comedy, and has some great attention to detail on the guns and cars.

I think the reason only the NTSC version seems to be available is because it was an early ADV-UK DVD release* and they were probably doing it as cheaply as possible.

I've got the R4 version which is also NTSC and it's a great disk, I would highly recommend the show if you want something a bit fun :)

re Witch Hunter Robin, I bought the series blind and must admit at times I wondered why I was continuing with it, but it did have a fairly good end:)

*if memory serves several of ADV's early UK DVD's were NTSC and the only reason I can think of it is as a way of limiting their costs/time spent on something that might have fallen flat on it's face.

Glad to hear it turns out better then, I have to say I actually bought it blind as well...the goth chick thing again ;)

Think I may watch some more tonight now, I'm not feeling vewy well & quite sorry for myself so need some cheering up :D

Gunsmith cats, well at least the few ive seen of it were really enjoyable.

Not overly complicated, decent story lines (if a bit basic), good music and nice animation.

I think theres a few different series as well (afaik)

Which reminds me I must get round to rewatchin Eva with the commentaries on lol

Finished watching Hellsing, was indeed lots of fun and I can't wait for the OVAs!:)

Anyone know if the manga of this is on sale in the UK? If not, what's a good place to import it from? There were just too many loose ends left in the series and I know the OVAs are probably a year or more away and I'm not prepared to wait that long to find out what happens!

Hmmm... cheapest I can find them for is ~£6.50. Itwon't be cheaper to import at that price I guess.
Just to confirm, it is only six volumes right? The online bookshop I'm browsing doesn't seem to carry a "Hellsing vol. 1", strangely, but I assume the one they simply "list as Hellsing" is volume 1 and they got lazy with the labelling?:p

OMG just got another bargin on E-bay i got the whole second season of mahoromatic for £25 (p.s. dont worry it is officail i checked it all out beforehand) first the bubblegum crisis boxset and now this i really lucked out :D

A quick bargain spotted on another forum DVDPacific have the Escaflowne Movie 3 disc LE for $31 + shipping (about £17 +£3 shipping).
Whilst you can get the movide disk on it's own for about a tenner delivered, the package as a whole is pretty darned nice, and the OST is very good (you also get a third disc with loads of extras).
I actually prefer the movie to the TV series a lot of the time as the movie is more action orientated and starts with a great opening sequence.

LC, I liked Mahoro's english VA as well, but as far as I can tell she's not done much work apart from that role, unless she uses two or more names*, one for union work and one for non union work...
Although pretty much the entire primary cast/secondary cast for Mahoromatic was pretty good from memory (it's been a while since I watched it).

*apparently not uncommon at all (and then you have the VA's who use comedy names for the odd bit of hentai work;))

i think it's more a case of the screen actors guild than studios, as it's not uncommon for a VA to work at multiple studio's* as they are mainly independant agents who are free to work for any studio that wants to hire them.
For example ADV/Funi share a lot of the same talent due to them both having studio's in the same area.

As I understand it, if a VA is a member of the SAG they are not meant to take part in non union work, but because many studio's and dubs are done non union it leads to them having to make the choice of not doing the work, or doing it under a psuedonym (apparently only a handful of VA's only do union work).

*examples include Jessica Cavello (has worked for ADV and Rightstuf), Monica Rial (ADV, Funimation), Chris Patton (ADV, Funi)
