Whilst I still enjoyed it myself, I have to say, the main character most of the time and the melodrama was quite annoying and cringing.

Still, the fact that the rest of the cast finally believed in Menma from episode 8 onwards and can see her interactions is something you don't really see a lot of. Things like this are usually just reserved for the main character or that special someone who always get the ridicule for being crazy and weird.

Anyway the upcoming Carnival Phantasm looks to be mindless hilarious fun for Type-Moon fans.

Interesting to note that the voice actors for the Tsukihime characters will be the same from the Melty Blood games and not the 2003 anime adaption. Fate/Stay Night will just be the usual.

Personally I'd rank it higher that Angel Beats but that's just personal choice.

I think when i look back i found that i was more invested in the Angel Beats characters. it had some pretty tragic little sub-plots once you learnt the backstory of some of the characters: Iwasawa, Yui, Otonashi, Kanade etc.

AnoHana didn't quite have that shock and awe/emotional gut punch until the last 2-3 episodes i think.

They're both pretty good though, i do hope Ano Hana gets licensed.

Yep, Ano Hana being licensed would be nice ... :)

For a bit of a change of pace re-watched Highschool of the Dead today. Watched it on Sentai's BD release. Reasonably good series with lots of action, violence, oppai, pantsu and general mayhem. Looks and sounds very good on BD and really needs a season 2 as there is no closure ...

Anyone know where I can get the Serial Experiments Lain boxset in region 2. Most of the time I use Amazon for my Anime but there's only region 1 available there. I also want to avoid blindly googling and ending up with a region free Chinese knock off.

See I got bored of HSoTD before it ended up and never finished it. One of the few series I've dropped.

Watched a really strange mismatch of anime today, whilst trying to work out what to watch next with my brother; saw an episode of Durarara! (which seemed to make very little sense watching it after having a drink...although hooray for the Holo/Spice and Wolf reference :D), 2 episodes of Kashimashi, which strikes me as light and harmless enough I can watch it around another series and an episode of Master of Epic.

Currently still undecided on my next series though.
I suppose the choice at the moment is between:

Something random
FMA:B
Durarara!
Basilisk
Rec

Just not sure what to go for. I hate these big decisions :D

Have you seen Baccano? From the same author as Durarara, i would have picked it up in that Zavvi sale, but a Blu Ray has just been released in the US iirc.

FMA:B requires a a bit of an investment of time at 60+ episodes. I'd probably watch Durarara first..easier on the brain....although...thats debatable :p.

Nope, not seen Baccano; although I'm aware of it, in that it's the series the creators of Durarara did before hand...but that's about it.

I don't mind going for an invested series...(although I'm still trying to work out when to try Maison Ikkoku :D)

Yeah if you like Durarara, Baccano is a must watch.

Blood, gore, 1930's gangsters, alchemy & immortality with a wacky bunch of characters. Watch the mayhem ensue. it's a shame it was so short at just over 13 episodes.

You can easily marathon Rec since the episodes are 12 minutes long.

Really nice and cute romance in it. And the product & mascot character is just LOL.

Rec is a good watch. Durarara looks to be quite good, although I've only seen the first third so far (parts 2 and 3 are both in my back log).

I would say though that just because Baccano is from the same people as Durarara doesn't automaticqll mean that if you like one you'll like the other ... personally I didn't get on with Baccano at all.

I thought it might be. Looking into it, it seems MVM licensed it. I'll send them an e-mail and cheekily ask if they have any box sets lying around.

Also, for anyone else that's into Cyberpunk, have a watch of Technotise Edit & I. Review here: http://twitchfilm.com/reviews/2010/08/technotise-edit-i-dvd-review.php
Yup second that,:).Really enjoyed it particularly enjoyed the song `Stvar je odluke`
One of those tunes i find i can`t get out of my head.Don`t see many Serbian Animé either:D

Finished watching a couple of other things today ...

A Channel .... ok it's not big and clever but it was a nice modern slice of life series. It was relatively pure slice of life with no real theme at all. Nice little series though.

Dance of the Vampire Bund .... looks nice on BD. Reasonably good vampire series with some good characters and quite a bit of fighting. Plot didn't really seem to go anywhere at times but at least Funi didn't screw up the endings of the two episodes which had things going on during the end credits.

Dragonaut Resonance .... bit of a trainwreck really. If you like characters with big oppai and 3d CGI dragons which don't really fit with the surrounding animation then this could be for you. I wouldn't say it's that bad it just doesn't do what it is trying to do very well.

On a course this week so after today I'm not going to be able to watch much in the way of anime until next weekend :(

Just watched 5 centimetres per second. For such a short film it certainly had an impact, if I am honest I would have liked it to be longer but it still got a strong message across in that time. Well worth a watch I'd say and the visuals struck me as good in it.

The main issue with 5cm/s is that we still haven't had a BD release for it (shakes fist at Japan) ... other than that it is a really nice film.

Watched Arrietty this evening ... you can tell it's a Ghibli film as soon as you see any of the characters. And the environment they are in looks absolutely glorious. Plot wise ... hmmm ... it just doesn't work that well for me; what's there is a good watch but it just ends as if they suddenly realised that they'd run out of time and had to roll credits. They are several plot points just left hanging about what's gong to happen to many of the characters ... it's almost as if they could do another film of the same length following on from this one to tie everything up. It was a nice film to watch but I think there are better Ghibli's.

Ran out of time to marathon Rec as I ended up catching up with a friend with a beer due to the weather. Did manage to finish Kashimashi though. After Brighter... I was a little worried about how the series would hold together, but luckily, despite some issues it largely held together reasonably well, even if the OVA did feel a bit tacked on to follow both routes.

Not an classic or a favourite, but certainly charming enough. Would perhaps give it 6.5-7/10.

Pardon my anime noobness, but would are there online shops worth recommending for buying English dubbed DVD box sets and the like? New to anime myself, so far watched Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist and working my way through Bleach (the dvds im after).

Thanks
