I ordered stuff from both the hut (soul eater, ouren school host club, buso renkin, kickass at the same time), and zavvi (claymore), kickass shipped after about 3 days, the others shipped after about a week (this saturday/monday), and claymore reckons it'll be july before it ships.

That is pretty typical for orders from them in my experience, as they seem to be very slow at getting stuff out, however for the price i'm not too annoyed :)

I tend to use amazon unless the other sites are much cheaper (10%+), as the cs is so much better and I've got a prime account with them :) (which has proven very handy).

Sounds like it's normal then.... better hope I don't need to deal with customer services when they do eventually arrive.....

Maybe I've just been spoiled, if I order from Amazon over the weekend 9 times out of 10 I get the goods by Wednesday and that's using the free delivery option.

Werewolf - my claymore boxset shipped today lol I suppose the wait is ok on this one as I'm saving 10 quid on this alone compared with amazon.

GTO is pretty good, animation is a bit so so but the dub is good for the main cast not so good for the plot based new comers. Plots are good and its funny.

Here is a 10% off code for zavvi, as i doubt i'd be buying owt from them for awhile so someone might as well use it.

Warewolf, buso renkin is pretty good. :)

I've had bad experiences with both Zavvi and Play which handled badly enough that I don't plan on ordering from them any time soon.

I mostly used Amazon for UK stuff and UP for US stuff ... as I haven't had any major issues with either of them (touch wood) and the minor issues have been quickly ironed out.

I haven't had any issues with TRSI either but with their insistence on shipping to the CC address I tend to use them a lot less.

There's also the fact that TRSI tend to take quite a while to arrive. Does make UP more attractive at times, especially as I understand you're now more likely to have to pay customs with TRSI than you used to :)

As the thread is huge (why not cut off at 1000 posts and make a pt 2 and pt3 etc) i wont look to see if its been said but i just read that james cameron (aliens 2 and stuff) is making a Battle Angel film which i remember is a anime that i quite liked if a bit short.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0437086/

Hope its good. :)

Edit - Hmm 200 mill budget apparently and release date 2016, damn should look good with that price but the wait, oh the wait.. :( Probs be a 3d film too.

He's been talking about Battle Angel for years (and years). 2016. Probably not a chance as he has said that he won't start (properly) working on it until Avatar 2 and 3 are done and dusted.

Has he ah right, shame. Its a good story and might make a good real life film if it follows the anime ova properly. Had to look proper blade runner tho otherwise it will fail imo.

I believe the descision was that the hairy one will archive and restart the thread when we roughly hit ~10000 posts ... until then there is the search feature :)

I expect the film will be poor given that it's a Hollywood remake of an animated property (based on past experience)

My copy of Eden of the East arrived from Zavvi today, will be watching that later :). Works out at around 70p per episode, not bad :). They are ok to deal with, they just aren't as prompt as Amazon.

Question for memyselfandi:

I was in Comet earlier and spent a good half hour playing with an Ipad 2 (very impressed), as I'm seriously considering getting one for art/portfolio purposes. It seemed to handle nice and fluidly when flicking through images/documents.

Anyway i was just wondering how you've found the performance when watching anime and reading manga, seeing as you have (won, damn you) one.

Mines only an iPad1 but I'd make the following comments ...

Anime - looks pretty good, watched quite a bit this way over christmas. Has the usual issue that to get media on you have todo it through iTunes ... I think I used handbrake for this and it did a reasonable job of re-encoding (or how ever it processes it) without screwing up the soft subs (for the most part ... Got the od funny now and then which were probably due to the sources).

Streaming ... No flash. There is a curnchyroll app which stream off their site quite well if you have a reasonable connection.

Manga ... There are probably apps for this, I just you the picture support with albums with appropriately named files for each volume ... Looks really good but not great to manage.

Light Novels ... Either as PDFs or epubs (via calibre) these work well in iBooks. I tend to put them on normally via Dropbox which has a button to send to iBooks I. The client when it can't open it itself.

I would say it's an ok platform to watch Anime and manga but I wouldn't get one just to do that.

What i would really like is a way to rip Anime dvd's to mkv's with subtitles reliably (when I try it tends to screw up the subs).

Hopefully this isn't breaking forum rules:

Use MakeMKV to rip the DVD in its original format to an MKV container (no recompression etc involved). It will usually give you the option for subtitles, along with whatever audio tracks are on the disc.
You can then reencode the (usually) mpeg2 video to h.264 with Ripbot if you want compression. :)

Occasionally a disc is formatted oddly and it becomes hard to do with MakeMKV, but for your standard DVD where each episode is a 'track'/file on the disc, it generally works great.

Completely free for DVD, although you'll need to pay a Blu-ray license once it's out of shareware if you decide to use it for those too :)

I have got an app called AVPlayerHD and it plays MKV files natively and you don't have to use itunes either, you can send files to the ipad wirelessly using FTP :)

It handles 720p files flawlessly, one of the first thing I tried was putting anime on there :p

You forgot to mention that your limited on what you can watch using that app (the android version of that app doesn't have those limits since there aren't any age restrictions on that platform).

Didn't mention it as I haven't come across the limitation on anything I've wanted to watch, (not to say that there aren't said restrictions on top of the usual Crunchyroll region restrictions).

I'm dreading the endless 8...I suspect i'll be dozing off during it if i'm not careful :)

Anyone seen Planetes?
I got the set through a couple of days ago and it seems like a more realistic space anime than most :)
