I want them on Blu-ray with english Dub. Any sign of a western release?

What of the GitS elements? ... all the films are available as are the Individual Eleven and Laughing Man (don't know off hand if these last two are dubbed though). I've seen talk of the series' being released but that was more speculation than anything concrete (I would like them too).

Solid State Society and the compilations are only out on BD in the US not over here yet.

Cheers, that makes a bit more sense; in which case I'll watch SAC at some point and not worry too much about what happens in relation to the films.

On Holiday in Spain next week with the family. Got my reading and viewing materials all prepared to go on my phone for any quiet points:

Videos:
- Evangelion - it's quite an old show so I can get away with hitting hit hard with the 'compress hammer', and it's one of those shows I've been meaning to look at for a while given its status, especially as I started watching the films.
- Tonagura - nothing too serious; perfect for relaxing in the evening

Novels
- Spice and Wolf vol 4 (been saving this since it arrived)
- Couple of the translated Toradora! novels

Considering taking a few more as I read pretty fast if I'm in the mood, and light novels don't tend too long.

I'm HOPING I won't get through them as I'll be too busy, but experience has shown its good to have backups for when you're not sightseeing etc and to complement your other relaxation!

On episode 11 of Angel Beats!

I think it's fantastic, some of it can be cheesy but the humour is great and drama can be quite touching too.

I'm up to about episode 10 or 11 of Haruhi the second season which is turning out to be very good, and great fun especially the additional "mikuru" movie bits, the scenes where they are filming in the park and shopping centre are great for the shots of the bystanders :)

I can see that at some point I'm going to have to watch Haruhi through in order (which probably means using two DVD players, given the episodes from the two seasons mix up).

Alex, hope you have a great time on holiday and don't need to use too much of your anime stuff whilst away :)

Holy crap was the ending of Bakemonogatari good!

It was one of those that made you feel both satisfied at how perfect the ending was, and simultaneously hurt and betrayed that there isn't any more of this! :D Very few series have made me feel like that (Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo being two of them).

Did you watch the Ep12 ending, or the Ep15 (not saying more to avoid spoilers). I actually quite liked both, all though the stars/theme tune and quirky dialogue in 12 were quite endearing.
As I've said before, Bakemonogatari isn't perfect, but I really enjoyed it once it gets moving.

They're making a prequel film/show I believe to explain the whole back story from the novels in regards to Shinobu and Araragi's relationship.

No, watched the whole thing, up to 15! :) So they were based on novels then? Not manga? Any of them been translated?

EDIT: mentioning Cowboy Bebop has reminded me to check what Watanabe did after Champloo and what Kawamoto has been up to since Wolf's Rain. Saw a couple of things that might be interesting to check out, I suspect they'll prove hard to track down though...

ANOTHER EDIT: I actually liked 13-15 BECAUSE of 12, if you know what I mean. I don't think the ending at 15 would have been as moving without 12, they really make each other.

Yeah it's true, because of the likes of 12, you realise how futile the situation in 13-15 is in some senses; unfortunate as well, because perhaps with a little honesty and getting to the point earlier it might have happened differently.

They're based off a light novel series not a manga; and like I said the prequel Kizumonogatari has also been greenlit because of how successful Bakemonogatari was :)
Don't believe the books have been fully translated, although I seem to remember there was a project in the works at a "famous book translation group"'s site :)

Edit: Just watched Black Rock Shooter as it was short and filled some time nicely this evening, I hadn't wanted to start anything bigger as I leave early in the am (it'd been a random choice between this, GITS2, a couple of ghibli and a couple of other choices). I thought it was rather nice visually and audibly but I think I would have enjoyed it more if the two halves of the story weren't intermingled and it'd been more coherent for it.

Has anyone recut it back into the correct/chronological order? Potentially I think they could have got more airtime out the concept, as you never find out what happens with the other girl so potentially there was a good half season or so of 24 min shows there.

ahh yes a haruhi watcher ;p just finished series 1 which was overall great except for last episode too many silent bits!

but whats series 2 like going to start watching soon.

I'm on about episode 10 of bebop now. It's got better, but the main character Spike is so annoying! I started using the subtitles and jap audio to get rid of his smug voice, but I still find it very hard to really like him.

I do find it very good in that they are very slowly drip feeding you how their reality works and how different organisations are run rather than presenting it all in one go. Saying that, I find it a bit frustrating that many episodes appear to be 'find this bad guy, realise something isn't quite right, find some amazingly huge awesome plot that could be fleshed out but barely touch on it and then drop it for ever more'.

Generally though, I am enjoying it and the 4th character 'Ed the girl' has just shown up so I'm sure that'll spice things up.

Yep, someone mentioned it earlier in the thread, definitely gonna have my eyes out for that! :) Apparently there's also another anime based on a book by the same author called Katanagatari, but I haven't been able to find out much about it. Anyone seen it or bits of it?

I don't blame you, I didn't like the English VA either. The only one from the main cast who sounded vaguely like he should was the dude playing Jet.

Yup i've seen that its a series of 12 45min long episodes and very good, i'd reccomend it to any as a great series.

There's only like 12 episodes? It's extremely episodic so it really doesn't go anywhere

katanagatari, I got bored after about 8 episodes, it just started to get repetitive/boring.
I liked the style of artwork etc as it was a change but the story just dulled as it went on.
