The AMD Driver Thread

When Freesync Crossfire support comes out it'll probably be botched rubbish which will run like trash. Glad i'm not on the freesync bandwagon, for now. Hope AMD's driver support improves, they're digging themselves a deep hole. Only problem is that AFAIK Nvidia still has the shovel after the 970 issues, it'll be couriered overnight to you AMD. :D

If its like Single GPU then it will be worth the wait! This should have been sorted ages ago though..

I do feel for you guys who have spent all that money on the cards and monitors and can't use it properly, but if I was being a bit tunnel visioned and going from just my experience (and many other single card users) AMD have been amazing, not one problem whatsoever! So the single card support is great.. Anything more.. Well that is non-existent!

I agree that single card support is nothing short of fantastic, crossfire support however...

Yeah completely agree outside FreeSync crossfire driver am very happy.. I didn't buy this monitor for Freesync though, Freesync was more of a bonus now turned into a must have feature.

Because of the difference between FS on and FS off its doing my head in playing games with it off..

Just hoping its only a couple weeks wait at most.

I've only just made the jump to 144hz, got a long wait to Freesync for me. Is it really that good? I haven't really read into it tbh.

Although they are usually late, when they do come they usually work.. Although I would like to try 4k VSR :(

My issue is that it generally takes MONTHS to get a working profile after release. GTA5 being the one exception to this.

What games would that be though?

If its what I think you going to say and that being FC4 and Dying Light!

These two games had issues outside of AMDs hands that needed fixing, reason these tuck longer!

Its also worth re-thinking what do both these games have wthin them? GameWorks so its something here that must have been the issue..

"Nothing aimed at Nvidia" The Devs should had this working before release..

Not sure if you know this but for a game to support crossfire it takes more than just AMD sending out a driver! the game itself must support multi GPU rendering..

If a game simply dont support MultiGPU then nothing AMD can do about!

AMD fans have been outspoken about their love for the smooth gameplay of AMD FreeSync™ technology, and have understandably been excited about the prospect of using compatible monitors with the incredible performance of an AMD CrossFire™ configuration.

After vigorous QA testing, however, it’s now clear to us that support for AMD FreeSync™ monitors on a multi-GPU system is not quite ready for release.

As it is our ultimate goal to give AMD customers an ideal experience when using our products, we must announce a delay of the AMD Catalyst™ driver that would offer this support. We will continue to develop and test this solution in accordance with our stringent quality standards, and we will provide another update when it is ready for release

I was on the fence! I only wanted 144hz 1440p - upgrade over 120hz 1080p

I was treating FS as a bonus feature, till I tested it.

The difference it makes to games smoothness is quite something. Its not just having zero screen tear and no input lag it helps massively with frame rate change.

For example what i noticed and tested right away.
BF4 stand right in front of a big explosion and you get that slow down effect when frame rate takes a big hit, on freesync you don't even notice the frame rate has dropped.

Pretty much, would give a decent argument but cba. Been a long day.

I still believe however MANY improvements could be made to the customer service side of AMD, including comms regarding driver updates. I don't believe for a moment that they realised they couldn't hit a deadline on the due day of release.

That I agree with you... One thing I dislike about AMD this past year is there lack of communication with us all.

And I mean from guys above AMDMatt! It would just be nice to be informed about progress on things happening.

I'm personally fine with the Crossfire support, I rarely buy games on release because the game will likely be buggy and have many issue that need ironing out, Crossfire support is the least of my concerns, by the time i think the game is ready of purchase CF would have been added a long time before and there are many games that simply dont need multi GPU and if i had an Async monitor it would be many more months before i would be bothered.

We can keep repeating this but sadly I don't think that a few hundred people are going to make them listen. Seems to be the same arguments popping up over and over..

I would like to try it but nowhere around her or anyone I know has FS monitor to try. I thought going from 60hz 1080p to 144hz 1080p was a big difference. And it has made me better at battlefield somehow haha

Mantle on it's own makes a massive difference to how smooth BF games run.

Tried, only answer you get over there is from long time general users.. Its really no better than coming in here sadly.

If it were to happen it would still be there (its a simple matter of logistics), even with NV there is every little communication from reps outside of the official forum and in fact there is even less than AMD outside of the official forum.

There have been lots of games that have lacked crossfire support from day one. Having had AMD crossfire setups since the 4870X2 I have always loved he hardware, but the software support has been horrific. Rome 2 was the last game that i remember that had no working crossfire profile for nearly a week. There have also been plenty of games where they have broken crossfire support for older games with their newer drivers. Then you have games like FC3 that only worked smoothly with some tweaks from a third party software source. AMD driver support has been like this for as long as I have been with them and it is a real shame. At least with GTAV they had a working driver for release.
