The AMD Driver Thread

Matt for benchmarks should I be disabling freesync, frame pacing etc?

FreeSync should have no noticeable performance hit. In fact, in our lab testing it usually increases fps marginally, if anything. I'd leave it on.

Frame pacing on for 24/7, off for benching.

Texture filtering quality standard for 24/7, and either standard or performance for benching.

Most of our optimisations are done on standard, but performance can sometimes offer a 0.5-1FPS or so increase.

2 390's Matt. Got a global 120fps lock with rivatuner/msi. all my games Matt, 8gb vram. I was just wondering if it's because I'm at 120fps locked and thought the cards might be throttling as they don't need any more juice as I'm pretty much at the limit I set.

That'll be why then, Powertune is dynamically managing the clock speed to use just enough power (clock speed) to maintain 120FPS.

Powertune?

The GPU's can achieve the FPS without running at full speed (clock) so they will dynamically fluctuate to save power, as they can achieve the FPS required at a lower clock.

Regarding ULPS/Zerocore, watch this.

TL : DR

ULPS = ON =

One GPU, monitor in power save (blinking amber), GPU shuts down and fan stops.

Two GPU, user working with PC in non-3D app, GPU 2 shuts down and fan stops.

Two GPU, monitor in power save, both GPUs shut down and fans stop.

Hey guys, got an issue I'm wondering if you can help with...

Just got my new BenQ Freesync monitor, connected it up, install latest drivers, but it's not giving me the option for freesync.

So I've reinstalled the drivers after using DDU, didn't help.
Disabled crossfire, didn't help.
Disconnected my second monitor, didn't help.

Oh and I'm connected using the supplied DP cable.

Any ideas?

Have you set the monitor to FreeSync mode? Might need to do that first, then uninstall/reinstall 15.7. If all goes correctly upon Driver install and restart it should prompt you to go into CCC and enabled FreeSync.

Hey Matt. I'm just securing a deal on a Fury X. Right now I have SLI Nvidia cards.. What's the best way to go about installing the drivers mate? should I leave the Nvidia ones in place? or rip them out completely? would it be better to reinstall Windows and start a fresh?

What driver is the best for X right now?

Uninstall Nvidia drivers, install AMD drivers. DDU can be used. :)

You don't need to put the BenQ monitor in Freesync mode Matt, there is no such option on the monitor.

My bad, i had that display for a while but could not remember if you had to do that. With my new 4K Samsung FreeSync panel you need to physically enabled FreeSync via the OSD. :)

Matt, any thoughts on my query above regards Powertune?

The ability to vary clocks as necessary to reduce heat and power consumption is great, but it'd be nice to retain the option to have 2D/UVD/3D clocks as static states ala the old format.
I find that the frame pacing just isnt as nice/stutters are introduced when the clock speeds are changing a lot.

You have two options, you can either disable powerplay via MSI Afterburner or you can lock the clocks using RadeonPro.

Why I can't do 3k VSR on 16:10 monitor?

@AMDMatt can this be fixed?

According to the release notes it's not supported yet, so this is expected behaviour. I don't know if/when it will be added, but i expect we'll continue improving the feature in future drivers.

Thanks Matt, is it something you could suggest in your new role as perhaps looking to include in an official manner so it's not something users have to do with 3rd party apps? It's something supported by Nvidia in the form of Maximum Performance/Adaptive power modes, so it'd be nice to see a similar option :)

Also
1) Do you know of any plans for the new Frame Rate Control to have 120/144Hz or higher options in future rather than the current 95 limitation?
2) Will there be any updates to allow for VSR at over 60Hz in future?

Thanks for your time :)

I will pass the feedback along. :)

Same answer as above, i don't know but I'm sure we'll continue improving on VSR in future drivers.

Unofficial Overclocking Mode is acting differently in Windows 10 than in Windows 7 for me. Ive been playing around with it over the past week and the 'Disabled' option isnt working the same way in Win 10 vs Win 7. Seems like my factory overclock is as far as the clocks will go even if i am overclocked much more when running 3DMark. Its a weird one which i am hoping its just a Windows 10 pre release bug or maybe MSI AB not playing well with 10.

This is while using GPU-Z for monitoring, so maybe GPU-Z isnt reading clocks right in Win 10 but i see a lower score in 3DMark which i guess cancels that out.

Its a strange one and i cant get my head around it atm lol I also noticed in Win 10 im getting a better 3DMark score with my iGPU disabled in BIOS vs having it enabled, in Win 7 there is no difference for me with this Sandybridge chip.

As you can tell, its hard for me to explain this so if i get time i'll try and do some further testing on Win 10 and see if i can manage to figure out what the hell is going on, i hope at least some of this makes some sense :)

Probably expected behaviour as it's still in Beta as is the Operating System. Our Windows 10 drivers are provided 'as is' at the moment. Once the Operating System fully launches we'll have a new Windows 10 driver ready.

Cool i was hoping it was something like this, us Win 10 Insiders will get the official Win 10 build as everyone who upgrades on the 29th, so i shall test some more when that build comes.

Using 15.7 driver on both 7 and 10 btw.

Cheers mate :)

No worries. Once the OS is launched, we'll be focusing heavily on it and fixing any bugs in our drivers.

Its plug and play here.. All I did was plug new BenQ monitor in, reinstall driver, got a pop up saying enable freesync.
Setup a Frame limit in AB 140fps disable in game Vsync not needed anymore and enjoyed nice smooth gaming..

You do seem to have a lot issue with PC gaming GM! You sure PC gaming is for you? I mean all I see if you complain about things!

I think its time you sold up and went with something a little more easy for you PS4 or something failing that a Wii U :p
"Joke" :D

:D :D Life is never easy for our enthusiast GM.

I would try seeing if you can get it working with a single card first using the demo I posted. :)
