The AMD Driver Thread

You guys having trouble with bouncing clock speeds, are you all on freesync or summat? Recently ive been flashing loads of different bioses, i was thinking i was gonna start seeing some of these problems but i havent seen it, i was wondering if its cause im stuck on a vsync monitor and most you lot are using freesync.

127fps :D what settings you running there?

Everything on, maxed @1440p, apart from the Shadows on Softest, the MSAA off, and the Grass Detail on High. :)

Im on FreeSync, but the new Power Efficiency toggle is working fine, i get locked clocks both cards with it off, on all the previous sets of the Crimsons, i did have the bouncing clocks.

not on freesync, just a standard 180P monitor

What ya got MSAA off for? i use same settings cept 4xmsaa, or i use vhigh grass with 2xmsaa depends what im doing.

Dunno, i just left it off from the start, i only play it using a single card anway though (at the same settings), as it stutters in Xfire for some reason, on a single card its butter.:p

Well there's your problem, the clocks don't need to run full speed to render at 180p:p

:D

Ah that sux, having 2 furys would rock in GTA you would be able to run 4xmsaa with vhigh grass i bet and still keep nice fps.

To get rid of the stutter with a vsync monitor ya have to limit the FPS but i dunno how ya would do it with freesync.

You don't :D Freesync removes vsync stutter. I guess LoadsaMoney could easy have game max settings 60fps lock but might like keeping close to refresh rate of his monitor 144hz so chooses to drop couple settings that really don't offer much. Msaa is over hyped performance hog and max grass on gta5 is very demanding over not much IQ when set to high.

I'm so desperate for this Division crossfire profile, a single 390 just doesn't cut it at 1440p unless I drop graphic settings down to medium....and I refuse to do that on a 2 grand build.

You shouldn't have to drop it that low, on my 290 with most stuff on high/ultra my FPS varies, outside about 40-50FPS with dips to 35 and inside, more or less locked to 60FPS.

Particle Detail - high
Depth of Field - medium (going to turn this off, ****es me of when aiming down sights)
Volumetric Fog - medium
Contact Shadows - all low
Object Detail - 50%
Streaming Distance - 50%
shadow - high
No AA - using kputts sweetfx with SMAA
CA and vignette of

Most of those things above are heavy hitters with little difference in IQ

Since your cpu is a lot better than mine you should get better mins. etc. too and be able to crank the settings up a bit + freesync will help smooth the fluctuations out.

1440p is the killer though Nex.

I don't think 21.9 2560x1080 is too far behind 2560x1440 16.9 for performance as you have a fair bit more being rendered/displayed at the sides over 16.9 screens.

Tried Tomb Raider last night, not the new one, the last one (2013 i think), in Xfire, the screens constantly flashing like corruption off and on, as is Doom 3 BFG, very strange, both are fine in single card though, which is what ive been playing Doom 3 BFG in tbh, as doesn't need Xfire that, i cap it to 100fps on a single :p, and also Tomb Raider, Xfire not really needed for that either, as runs fine on a single, high frames.

Black Mesa, that seems to run better on a single card, single card i have it capped to 100fps, stays there, in Xfire, its anywhere from 70 to 100 :p

Also, when i shutdown last night, i got a 'the instruction could not be read at...' error pop up, but i didn't really see what it was, as by the time id noticed it, my PC shutdown, anyone else had that with these drivers ?
