I don't understand what power control is ? you need more voltage not power ?

If your GPU has a 220 Watt power limit then it will never draw more than 220 Watts. if it reaches that limit it will down clock its self.

Adding +20% power line will up the power limit to 265 Watts to give it room to draw more power when your overclocking.

yea but what use is that on a card that wont allow you to overvolt ? doesn't overvolting result in more power draw regardless of the power control slider ?

if you overvolt but dont increase the power control slider it will limit you,the boost system throttles when any of the temp/volts/powerdraw limits are hit so you need to make sure to max your o/c to increase/control all of those

This.

Is anyone else having issues with the 14.1 drivers and Windows Media Centre on Windows 8? As soon as I watch TV through WMC I constantly get the 'amdkmdap stopped responding' error which makes it impossible to watch.

My games are okay though.

Nope, works perfectly on both of my HTPC but I did a clean uninstall before I installed 14.1.

So i recently got a Sapphire 290, right from the start I was bluescreening constantly. A few drivers came out, betas and the full 13.12 release. the bsod's stopped occurring as frequently. I was also getting terrible artefacts on startup and would have to auto detect the source on my monitor for it to go away (strange...)
Now that 14.1 beta is out I was hoping that the card would start acting properly.
The artefacts are no more and I haven't bsod'ed yet. But I have however encountered a worse problem. I cant play any game. I load a game and about 30seconds in this happens, "Display driver amdkmdap stopped responding and has successfully recovered."
The screen goes black, punts me out of game and I have to reload the game but the same things happens.

Is this card just totally F'ed or is this a case of amd drivers being a pile of .....

14.1 absolutely ruined my system tbh.

Every game just ran worse.

Ran Fifa 14, can't break 200 FPS, stutters a little etc, GPU's looking kinda "cold" too given it's supposedly 99%.

Went back to 13.2, didn't help.

Reinstalled Windows, let Windows 8.1 install driver automatically, start Fifa 14 and I'm pushing 500 FPS.

So, my DirectX performance plummets with 14.1, ain't trying them again in a hurry.

do you use a driver sweeper to remove old entries ? I express uninstall reboot then clean out old reg entries reboot then install new driver then reboot

Don't use driver sweeper, use DDU uninstaller :)

Oh and I also found the 14.1 to be dreadful on my system as well, had to use a DDU clean up, reboot, install the officials

That sucks and you are not filling me with any confidence. I RMA'd my card a week back and am due a 290X as a replacement. :(

At least you can hate the card even more :p

Is there any word on when the next driver will be? 14.1 runs 'ok' but I have a few problems and Mantle isn't usable yet.

Yep! It's more of an Alpha release
fair enough if mantle has issues because of its alpha status but
its not an excuse for instability and bad performance in normal non mantle related games.
yes I know its a beta driver and not whql. But it is still broken.
Its the first time in a long time that I have not been using the latest beta driver.

Hopefully the next release is soon and is much better.

14.1 was good for a taster. I was impressed how Mantle felt and the performance boost it gave a single 290 card, but the driver was too buggy to remain on my pc.
