** The AMD Navi Thread **

So would anyone agree with me in that, Nvidia has done an AMD in rebranding. The "2060 Super" is basically a rebrand of the old "Ti" naming. So instead of calling it a 2060Ti, they called it a "2060Super" same with the 2070

I think its even simpler than that...

The 2060 Super is a gimped 2070

The 2070 Super is a gimped 2080

The 2080 Super I expect to be a gimped 2080ti, but time will tell on that one

No, it would be an AMD rebranding if they called the cards 3060,3070 and 3080 like AMD did with the 480 to 580 rebrand and 290 to 390.

Personally, I don't have a problem with the Super naming as using Ti would indicate chip level changes across the board and confuse the market. I like the re-brand. Nvidia have always liked it a bit 'Cheesey'.

Because of Navi, Nvidia had no choice to do this re-brand an a mini-PR launch stunt.

Nvidia sales were already tanking, look at the 1 year share price vs. AMD, Nvidia are ones in the hurt locker in the short term at least, shame it has taken 5 years (and more) to get here. Vega and Polaris, not really exciting chips to me but (as you can tell) Navi is going to change the world by bringing GTX1080 performance to a global audience and not just in our little geek fandom.

It is a chip level change though, the 2060 super is going to the 104 chip no?

No it's all about die-harvestation, but the 2070s is now going to be the real 2070 that should have been all along (Tu104).
The 2060s is still a harvested Tu106, leaving room for a rtx2060 super dooper at a later stage.

I just can't see Navi releasing as $380/449 as a good thing considering it's turning predominate AMD buyers like myself to potentially buying an Nvidia GPU.

It's also sounding like you're saying "AMD mays well just get the high price sales from the fanboys".
AMD just aren't going to win any mindshare with Navi. Which contradicts people calling it a starting point.

Buyers like yourself, who do the research, are going to buy the best value card and the best value card under $500 is the 2070 Super. But, the small few people like yourself who are on the fence, you guys won't make much of a difference to AMD's bottom line or their market share.

I still would appreciate it if you gave me an answer.

Do you think many consumers would pick the 5700xt @$375 over the 2060 Super at $399? Would you? It would be a tough choice, that's for sure. With what we know about both, I would pick the 2060 Super.

What price would the 5700xt have to be for you to say, yes, that's the card for me? I will give my answer to this, if I was looking to buy now, Navi would have to be $325 (the 5700xt) for me to pick it over the 2060 Super.

Nah, I am not saying only fanboys will pay the high prices, I am just playing devil's advocate really.

And I sort of disagree with your last statement. AMD might not win market share but if they truly think it's a starting point for the future, then it might be a good enough card to win mindshare. Think of an AMD GPU launch over the last few years, they have always been botched in some way. The price is terrible compared to mid range cards from years ago, but, in the current market the price is poor but not terrible compared to the cards around it. As long as they release a card that has no major flaws and gives the same performance as the AMD Slides suggest then they will have a solid offering. If Navi has some decent overclocking headroom, that would be a plus.

In 4 days time we will find out :)

Prices current:
RX 570 4GB - £99
RX 570 8GB - £150
RX 580 8GB - £170
RX 590 8GB - £200
RX Vega 56 - £270
RX Vega 64 - £320 (reference); £390 (others)
VII - £600

Why don't they discontinue the Vega 56 and Vega 64 and put the 5700 and 5700 XT in its price points?

Ofcourse they would, it's the faster card with more VRAM. You have to seriously buy into RTX 1080p gaming to jump on 2060S

it would be really great if Lisa pops up on Sunday and says "oops my mistake, did I say $450?, I meant $350" That would really disrupt everything, but yeah wishful thinking, I just hope it can just about match the 2070 super at least then its a slightly better value

Your post is completely back to front. At the end you say wait four days but before that you make claims over which is currently the best value card when we have very few details on both to be able to judge. Why don't you follow your own advice?

You have made your mind up already which is typical of someone who prefers a world view in favour of one manufacturer ;)

That's not playing devils advocate........

In logical world maybe but that's not how consumers behave. The same argument can be applied against the RX 580 and GTX1060, RX 580 has more legs and more ram but despite that the GTX 1060 has out sold the RX 580 10:1.

Not sure what reviews you guys have read, but the 2060 Super is basically the same performance as the 2070 and it has the same amount of Ram as the 5700xt, they both have 8GB.

The AMD slides have the 5700XT slightly faster than the 2070. Which I am guessing are best case scenarios.

And if we go by your examples, the 580 and 1060, where the better performing card with more ram was actually outsold 10-1. That doesn't bode well for the 5700xt.

We have the price from AMD and we have the performance slides from AMD and the reviews of the new Nvidia cards are already out.

My post was simply asking somebody who thinks the price is too high what card would he choose if the 5700xt was $75 cheaper, based purely on the performance information we have now. And at what price would he consider the 5700xt a must buy.

They are hypothetical questions as we already know the price of 5700xt and its $449.

All I mean by waiting four days for reviews is to see if AMD has released a solid card or made some silly mistake like their last few releases.

Your fanboy comment is stupid.

As for Devils Advocate, it wasn't about picking AMD or Nvidia, it was about the price argument. I was taking point of view that AMD set the price right. Which is not what I believe, I think it's too high.

AMD blower cooler.
