*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

Surely going from a 7800XT to a 9070XT is a bit silly? I mean sure you'll be getting something that's potentially close to 4080 performance and an FSR that's close to DLSS, but if in 2022 you'd bought a 4080 right now you'd have something with exactly 4080 performance and DLSS level upscaling and you'd have had it from 2022 without having to buy 2 graphics cards (I mean sure, you'll probably be able to buy both of them and still have change from the cost of a launch 4080, but you'd have had 4080 performance from 2022).

Right? He's the one I feel sorry for in all this as every generation he's the one in here defending AMD against the haters. They do like giving that man a challenge!

You misspelt "silly" :D
The rumours and leaks had it close to XTX performance for half the price. Some cannot afford £1K in one go and buying in 2022 would have meant something else I would have had to forgoe.

Anyway now I’m saving my cash for Nvidia in 2027 as I’m a bit hyped out…

I bet if Nvidia was launching a few months after AMD, most people would still wait for Nvidia. There would be none of this impatience were are seeing.

A lot of the drama here is faux outrage at best. I personally couldn't give a **** who launches what and when they launch it as gaming has been "meh" for me for a long time now. Spend more time on youtube or messing about with video edits than I've done gaming in years.

If that is the case, that's something AMD has done to themselves.

When I first started in the scene AMD were in a really good spot when the ATI name was still a thing
The 4870/4850 were well recommended, and for people who wanted the best performance got a 4870x2.

The Nvidia 280/285 weren't as highly rated amonst these types of places.

Then when the 5870 launched, it was just sold out all the time at the start, and then they launched the 5850 and AMD were cruising.
Nvidia took ages to launch their 480/470, and while Fermi was objectively better, AMD had a killer product stack.

AMD didn't quite follow it up as well when they launched their delayed 6970/6950 since Nvidia beat them two the punch, they were outperformed but offering better bang for buck.
Their 6850/6870 were decently rated for multi gpu set ups too.

When AMD launched the 7970/7990 these again were killer products, cue the overclocking and even when Nvidia finally launched their later GPU's, AMD were still much lauded.

And then it basically fell apart from there lol, launch after launch and their marketshare has crumbled.

AMD is the underdog so got nothing to lose by waiting for Nvidia to lay all cards on the table. Nvidia will definitely care if the 9070 cards beat the 5070 on price and performance.

Yup, HUB agrees:

Historically one of the best ways for an underdog to gain market share is to beat their competitors to the market.

Can you share any recent examples? How did AMD manage launches in the Ryzen 1000/2000 days?

isn't that the price fixing? that market is f*d

Nope. The "Nvidia minus 50 bucks" trope is just a much smaller competitor pricing to what the market can bear (with prices set by bigger company).

True price fixing, when it occurs, is typically seen in more competitive markets, where companies want to protect their profit margins and avoid a "race to the bottom".

Well this is deflating. I really wanted to not have to buy Nvidia.

I mean, you still don't have to... :p

Why 5070 with it's 12gb , when the leaks suggest that AMD overall are looking really good over the gimped 5070 , I rather wait few months then be stuck with the 5070 for years ?

Very sensible... patience is a lost virtue these days, apparently :)

Simps gonna simp...

Doesn't make sense. How would they stuff up the launch, when we all know what a good price would be? Assuming everything is indeed ready to go they would just need to pick a price and announce it, plenty of people are waiting after nvidia's seemingly poor offerings

MLID says AMD was aiming to launch the RX9070XT at $600 to $700 at CES:

So for under 25% to 30% over an RX7800XT,they probably wanted to charge over £500 for the RX9070.

Now,that explains all the overbuilt cards.

Another RX7900XT moment.

No I know, but I'm not going to buy a 7000 series card now, and I don't want to wait another couple of months when I've already been ready to upgrade for months.

I do think the delay will be worthwhile if they nail it, and I do find the outrage and glee a bit nauseating, but at the end of the day I was never in the market for a 70-class unless it was a compelling deal. The 9070xt looks like that but I'm not waiting until all the 5080s are sold out for months.

I suppose I simply know what I'm going to get with the 5080 - an overpriced card that definitely has everything I want. I'm not going to fanny about waiting on a promise from Radeon.

We keeping our 7800xts then bro? All honesty it’s a great card and overclocked match’s a GRE which is likely equivalent to a 9070 non XT. Realised I’d be upgrading for FOMO sake.

Why bother upgrading. You have 4070Ti performance there. And 5070 Ti ain't that much more powerful. So really you have a 5070Ti :D

Well, at least like your bro humbug would say anyway :p:D

Also I'm well aware of the irony of saying I'm not in the market for a 70-class, then going on to say I'll probably buy a 5080 (which is basically a 5070ti Super), but this is the absolute state of the dGPU market now.

HUB confirmed AMD is pricing based on Nvidia:

So basically AMD can't just give us 30% to 40% extra performance over a £480 RX7800XT then? How does that need Nvidia for them to make a decision.

So expect if the RTX5070 is rubbish, the price to be jacked up,or if it is good the price to lower.

Exactly. I noticed that about AMD many years ago and was like **** that.

Back in the day it felt like they always came in at a great price point and I rewarded them with my money even though nvidia had the halo card or even at times maybe better drivers etc.

But now, they are behind and they still ******* around trying to get every penny they can out of us rather than pushing price for performance forward like they used to.

It's clear they wanted to jack up pricing massively for the RX7700XT/RX7800XT replacements. Nvidia offering the RTX5070 12GB at £540 is hardly revolutionary pricing when it will be an RTX4070 Super/RTX4070TI with improved RT. So probably around 10% to 20% better value for money over an RTX4070 Super IMHO.

But it shows you how bad the original pricing of the RX9070 series is,if AMD is panicking and stopping the launch over £50.

If the RX9070 non-XT was an RX7900XT for £480,why would they need to do all this? The RX7800XT was already £60 more expensive than an RX6700XT.

AMD is under no obligation to launch before or at the same time as Nvidia. If I was running AMD I would also be waiting for the competition to reveal all their cards and then try to counter them. Even if they have a good product, they still need to be tactical instead of blindly firing all their shots.

Trouble is that still doesn't explain all the **** ups.

Well there we have it, 3 months after Nvidia when no one cares....
5070 release date is February 2025

Literally played a blinder-Shoulda gone to specsavers mate.... "they go on sale in March!"

Then and only then should AMD be judged on performance/price!

@Gerard fair play with your patience mate, the panty wetting because of the clickbait stories in here is cringe!
