*** The AMD RDNA 4 Rumour Mill ***

It makes me laugh when knowing this full well AMD die hards act like nothing to see here, all is well. How does it impact me etc etc.

Come on man. We all want AMD to do better. Yes, some may want it so nvidia price their cards better but so what. Seeing AMD at 30-40% market share again would be awesome.

That said I ain't buying their cards out of charity. They need to make or price a card properly to make me want to give them my money.

Supporting the underdog days from me are long gone.

I mean, they just priced their cards in around the same ballpark as their Nvidia counterparts (in non RT and dlss perf), but had worse ray tracing and not as mature frame gen tech/software etc.

I guess they don't want market share, as the only way to increase that this time is to actually have their cards making their Nvidia counterparts look expensive.

One thing that occured to me on why AMD may be waiting... actual prices aren't known really at this point. Yes, nV stated RRP of $550 for 5070. But we all know AIBs and retailers will be jacking up prices through the roof this round for nV cards. When 5070 FE comes in at £550, as usual, they will be sold out in a gnat's heart beat (yes, I know insects don't have a heart). What will be left for everyone are AIBs that are priced 50-200 above RRP. When the actual, average out-the-door price for a 5070 is £650, that opens up options for AMD.

AMD may therefore be waiting to see what actual street prices is on 9070/xt competitors, and AIBs for AMD have more wiggle room on pricing so can stick closer to RRP.

Edit: I'm not making excuses for AMD here, just postulating their rational for an otherwise inexplicable delay.

You answered it without waiting for this (so why would AMD need to wait?). The msrp is $550 the lowest, so AIB >$100 there you go the price to undercut is therefore $650. AMD could launch with the $500 right now and board partners can jack up profit margins how they see fit. We all know AMD let the prices slip down over time after their high ball release price and the market will just correct over a few months.

Looks like there could be an opening for AMD here with what might effectively be a paper launch from Nvidia with their 50-series (at least initially).

I wonder who has the most cards actually in stock right now between the two AI Graphics Card manufacturers?

Mid to late Feb for the 5070Ti release. Also very low stock availability.

Looking slightly better for AMD if true they may only be a few weeks to less than a month late.

Imagine if AMD knew about Nvidia stock shortages and that was the reason for the delay  the marketshare crew would be gutted.

But really you don't need a crystal ball to predict GPU stock shortage at launch these days. To the point that it would be suspicious if there was enough stock to last longer than a day.

And people on here have given AMD a hard time. This Nvidia "release" is a joke. Looks like this was posted 45 minutes ago in the Nvidia thread and it has so far, had no responses.

Sorry hadn’t refreshed to see the post above mine. But hey, it’s such a good point I thought it should be mentioned twice.

We’re back to “over to you AMD, name your price”.

To be fair I have already posted my thoughts on how poor Nvidia’s 5000 series looks from a price/perf improvement perspective. It’s more like a half refresh at best.

I await the threads to appear for "where is my Nvidia card. Where am I in the queue. Stock updates from gibbo... ". We know retailers have the AMD stock as they are working out how AMD are going to reimburse them for pricing differences. And because people will believe a 5070 will give 4090 performance, I think those that are waiting for a 9070, are safe.

This.

The thread is entitled the AMD RDNA4 RUMOUR MILL, which is clearly why we have been focusing on AMD.

Search for phrases such as "open goal" to see what people in the main think of Nvidia's 50 series.

Speaking for myself, at least, I don't have shares in either company, nor am I deluded enough to believe that they care about me. Nor am I projecting some kind of mythological narrative on to the market whereby AMD is the plucky underdog and Nvidia is the evil empire. A few people seem to get upset and defensive when AMD are criticised but I don't think we see things in the same way. I don't care about these companies, I just want a good product and service, at a reasonable price. Thankfully, my identity is not dependent on the badge on my GPU, or on any product I own (or don't own).

Again, the reason why people are expressing frustration with AMD's dissapointing GPU showing at CES is because the bar has been set so low by Nvidia who don't even seem to care anymore about gaming. All this recent story has done is expose how profoundly deprioritised the Gaming GPU market has become, and therefore how much bigger the open goal is for AMD.

I would agree. Also it looks like AMD got wind of the state around CES and if you think about knowing this bungle about struggling supply they thought sod rushing this out. There is no way these huge companies aren't informed of all the wider problems but it is turning out to be one of the clown shows again for us to watch.
