@fs123 says, the 7090xt is basically same die as a 7800xt, pretty much same size, similar cu, same vram etc..it is basically the 7800xt replacement, so for the replacement uplift it's good. the new naming scheme does amd a disservice in my view...if it had launched as the 8800XT(replacing the 7800xt), they would be comparing it to that, not the 7900xt or 7900xtx, wafers that are far bigger than the 7800xt, and that amd said they wouldn't make this gen, as they concentrated mid mkt and below
fact
@Jono8 you point out 7900xtx dropped by £300 bodes well for the future then as that's a 30% reduction in price since launch for the 7900xtx..even if we take £650 as the going price for a 9070xt rather than the 569 msrp, if it follows the same 30% reduction in price path over it's life till replacement comes out, that'll put a price of £455 by the end( 70% of 650 being 455)...most of it's life though the 7900xtx was a lot more expensive..it dropped when they started to unload stock, same as when the 4080super dropped to £850 before the 5000 series launched...you take your chances then...guessing a lot of people with hindsight that waited for a 5080 now paying £1350 for them would happily by a 4080super now for £850..same goes for 5070ti buyers my guess
