Meanwhile in other news I'm reading that Etherium mining is about to get less profitable with RX400/500 cards because it is very memory intensive and is about to hit a bandwidth bottleneck.

I'm thinking about Vega's supposed revolutionary memory system and high bandwidth... AMD had better release special mining Vega if the craze is still going on...

Might push the 8 GB cards even higher tbh.

Could be Jan 2018, took months for people to get their FuryXs that they'd pre-ordered, cards were only coming in at about 1 a month, was ridiculous, and then they were having to send them straight back for the whine, and wait yet more months for a replacement, which could have also whined.

Talking of whining....your 1080Ti seems to be taking a long time to arrive. ;):p

That's what I thought, but apparently it's more to do with architecture, not size. Specifically, something about the TLB being thrashed with the large number of memory accesses at various addresses causing the bandwidth to deteriorate...

Both 4GB and 8GB models will be affected.

The problem is, Etherium was designed like this to battle ASICs. All cards are expected to hit a limit at some point, some later than others.

Bottom line is, AMD has touted Vega's memory subsystem as state of the art. It also has high bandwidth and a powerful memory controller. If high Etherium prices persist, this could be a recipe for disaster for gaming Vega prices..

Ethereum should be going PoS in a few months though. Vega will need to be extremely good at other algorithms (ZCash's Equihash most likely) for it to be worth investing in from a mining perspective.

Kinda tempted to sell my 4GB 480 and throw my 7950 back in until Vega appears.. :p
Sell while its high, definitely
But be prepared to wait till August. Either Vega will be available by then, or Ethereum hype will die and market will be flooded with dirt cheap 480 and 580 cards.

Yes and Fury memory is also super high bandwidth when you compare to the 480 but it doesn't do much better there. That said I doubt people are going to want to buy this card to mine on unless it is a lot faster like x2 or x3 but I cant see it.

If there was a little Vega for £300 that was good I'd be all over it haha.

The Fury does exceptionally well at ZCash (~480Sol/s), and decent Ethereum (~30Mh/s) actually. It's just a shame there's none in existence else I'd have bought those instead of the 1070s for mining as they're a good 10%+ quicker in those D:

The Fury can perform as good or better than the 1070 in Zcash. I actually get 500s/s with it but the power requirements make it a bad choice over a 1070. The 390 can also do this. I don't know why but the 480 isn't as fast as the 390 for it.

meh meh meh just meh!

EDIT:

Just had a quick skim through the article, what is their source? Didn't see any mention of that so is this just another click bait article with no actual real facts?

EDIT:

Found their "source" but again that site they link to doesn't give any evidence whatsoever to back up that claim, at least not from what I can see.

IF TRUE, competitive with 1080 is fine if it's at the right price. Release date sucks, however if the weather stays like this I won't be turning on my desktop any time soon anyway, so I might as well sell up and wait...

Yup I don't mind 1080 performance for <£400, which is what I have been expecting since the start with vega possibly beating the 1080 overall by 5-10% in dx 11 and leaving it behind where dx 12/vulkan is concerned but if August is true then that is a big let down (especially since retailers/uk will be gouging the **** out of them for the first month, more so if there is limited supply) and the thing is, nvidia will probably drop the price of their 10xx series around then too....

Good thing most of the new games I am wanting aren't coming out till October or later.

Hopefully PS 4 pro will get a good bundle soon so I can just game away on it until vega arrives and the pricing across the PC market goes back to somewhat sensible prices.....

Popped in to this thread again to find that the only new news is ...from WCCFTech.
*sigh*
I've given up caring, its a lot more stress-free that way.

Yup, just wait until the 27th of the month to see what Frontier Edition does, and then another month for Radeon RX Vega.

WCCTECH, often use sources are nothing more then random posts on a Chinese forum (normally ChipHell) which itself quotes a random tweet from someone in the know.......we already know that RX Vega can compete with 1080 AMD have shown us this already, I don't know why they have to state something that's been officially reported several times.

I'll be glad when the reviews hit and confirm that RX Vega performance level is around the GTX 1080, this is just getting annoying now. If AMD had something better up their shelve they would have shown it off by now.
