Largely he plays his audience - he was very very pro-AMD for awhile but with the flow of things lately has taken a more central approach (partly I think due to picking up a much larger audience lately and wanting to keep it so trying not to alienate either extreme) - I suspect it will modify again depending on trends, etc. down the line.
+1

Not that I listen to it, just what I hear from what people say here. These days I just wait for cold hard facts rather than lapping up rumours and speculation. I get enough of that just browsing this thread anyway :p

Don't think AMD will drop HBM anytime soon on their high end cards. I also do not think HBM is the problem either. The only problem I can see is the manufacturers of HBM are lagging behind and not delivering things to schedule and AMD are suffering for this reason.

It seems AMD were probably expecting HBM2 that would deliver 512GB/s bandwidth at a lower voltage than even what they are getting currently at the lower bandwidth they have.

They won't, unless they go back to doing gaming cards as well, but i can't see that, as they've not been able to compete with Nvidia for eons now, they are just so far behind them now, then again, they've been so far behind intel for years, and now they're back, so its possible i guess, in time.
Lol. This post gets top marks Loadsa :p:D

But yeah, It seems when designing they build a card for compute and then carve a gaming card out of that. They don't have the budget to do a separate one for gaming like Nvidia.

Hopefully their next one (which i forget the name of now), is the one to start things turning around for them, as some are saying.
Navi. Yep, I am hoping this too. It is the first one Raja has worked on from the start. Sounds like it will be like a multi core CPU but on a GPU.

I remember years ago people saying that could not be done as the GPU is already multi core. But my understanding is that is what Navi will be. Which is great if they can make it work properly.

...what am I looking at or for?
Do you see all the red? They all crashing down in value the past few days. His point being profit will be down and people will stop investing meaning availability will improve and therefore price, some may even sell their cards.

Well said, the NVIDIA v AMD is more pathetic than the Xbox v PlayStation. Isnt the PC community suppose to more on the mature side???

I'm still using a 290 too, havnt seen anything worth buying in the same price bracket that I like to buy in, £300. Though I think that speaks volumes of the stagnant GPU market, a four year old card keeps up with the newer GPU's from both vendors in the same price bracket, that in it's self is pretty poor
I get the feeling Vega will also have long legs and improve a lot with time. I really want them to price it well as I already have a Freesync monitor and would much rather stick with AMD and support them. Just hope they do not make that impossible with their pricing, as end of the day I am loyal to my wallet and it always comes first :p

Same here, Of course price will matter, If I think it's too much I may hold out until Nvidia respond, I recently got a 6gb 1060 so I don't need to rush. I hope it is well priced though.
Yep, price will definitely matter. It needs to be very competitive as they are very late to the game and less efficient. Otherwise will hang on as I got a 7970 recently and that plays everything I am currently interested in playing anyway. Replaying a new Deus Ex mod called GMDX which runs nice and smooth maxed out at 4K :p

My other games I just play 1080p on my Plasma TV, so happy to wait for Volta if AMD over price :D

If the rumour of the reference model being $599 is true it'll need to be extra special to sell for that.

Rumour at 1:39
Too expensive unless as you say it is something extra special. The XTX should be that price at the most is my expectation. But if that rumour is true the XTX will end up being £600+ which to that I will say no thanks and wait for Volta sadly :(

We need price for performance to improve 12+ months on, not stay the same or get worse.

The more info that comes out about Vega, the more I fancy hanging on to my 7970 and waiting for Volta :(

Really hope AMD delivery some good news with regards to price for performance of RX Vega at SIGGRAPH.

Yeah Vega is only for people who...
want the best at any price
want the best value for money

want the top-end AMD card regardless of whether the cost of replacing their PSU outweighs the saving from not buying nV :p

So yeah... VEGA is for people who are allergic to green, I think.
lol :D
