Lol! :D

Long time forum reader, thought I'd finally sign up and post an observation. In the Assassins Creed Unity video, the CPU utilisation appears consistently lower on the Vega FE and the 7700K processor clock speeds are bouncing around. In the final ballroom scene the processor speeds appear to be all over the place, dipping down to 2.1Ghz(!). The Nvidia powered videos don't seem to suffer the processor speeds jumping around. Just wondered if this was potentially down to bugs within AMD drivers causing conflicts or whether there is more to it?

Welcome :)

If the 1080 performance is true then that's pretty sad, whats the tagline for this card gonna be? "AMD, bringing you last years performance this year"? Just seems like things haven't moved on much from fury x, and at best Vega is a somewhat updated fury x. There's meant to be what, 3 iterations of this? Hopefully what we're seeing is mid-range and the high end version has more to offer. Though it wouldn't really surprise me if the only real difference between the 3 was low and mid = air cooled, high = water cooled and clock speeds making the difference.

Yeah, I find it very sad personally if turns out to be true. My projection was it would be around 1080Ti performance at least. It still maybe, in a year or two's time with driver improvements :p

Unless they price it very well, which it does not look like they will be, it will be an epic fail. Very disappointing indeed. I am still waiting for proper reviews in 2 weeks time though.

I saw this posted on AT forums:

The impossible??

All aboard... The hype train!!!! :p

Making ~62% of the die do nothing?

Since Vega is 484mm^2 and a shrunk FuryX would be ~298mm^2 and would clock higher due to Dennard Scaling.
Lol!!

This is why until today I cannot wrap my head around big Vega not competing again Titan XP as I had predicted. 1080 performance should be for cutdown Vega for god sakes.

Lol

You might want to relAX that Vega is not for gaming since They are the ones explicitly selling it as a card for gaming, shipping g it with drivers that have a gaming mode, and they even compared it to a Nicosia gaming card using Nicosia gaming g drivers.

Stop with this complete nonsense, makes you look ridiculous
Nicosia? lol! I was there a couple of years ago :D

I sure AMD is also working on navi right now. What's to say this also on schedule for 2018.
So how will they be behind a generation? If Vega is indeed 1080 / 1080ti levels them AMD have matched this generation. So they not behind a generation.
To be honest the way things seem to be going with AMD, I won't be surprised is Navi comes out 1+ year after Volta.

If AMD are struggling now with Vega drivers, how are they going to handle Navi drivers one must ask themselves?

ill be extremely surprised if we see Navi in 2018 at all
+1

If I knew Navi was coming 100% in August 2018 I would even gladly chill with my 7970 until then and buy that. By then there will be a build up games worth playing also. It is just highly unlikely. Sad to say but true.

8 days remain till we find out about RX Vega. :D
Yeah, really looking forward to this still for some reason :p

I am expecting at least GTX 1080 performance for around £400-450 in which case I might pull the trigger. Still got the £375 sitting around from when I sold my 1080 (the same price I purchased it for) so as long as it is not a noisy bitch I would be getting a brand new card and ability to use Freesync with it. Not bad when I think of it like that :D

If they try and charge £500 for 1080 performance however, they can keep their card.

What is the exact time and date of RX Vega unveiling at SIGGRAPH? Maybe someone make a countdown timer and I will stick it up on the OP :)

Some people cracking me up with lines like "AMD lied to customers" regarding the Poor Voltage thing. How is that lying? It was just a silly jab. Lying is what Nvidia did with the 970 and later got caught and had a lawsuit on their hands and ended up having to pay people, in USA anyway.

End of the day sensible people will be reading/watching reviews before they drop their money on Vega. Who in their right minds would have watched that video 6+ months ago and thought "right, Vega will be best GPU ever, two generations ahead of Nvidia, it will not only trounce Pascal, but beat Volta also! I am sold, not need for any more proof!" :p

I was an optimist when about a year ago I predicted big Vega might match or slightly beat a Titan XP, but even I never thought it would come close to Volta, let alone beat it.

Quite simply, at 4K the 1080ti would take a decent lead and people would then notice a difference.

AMD is using smoke and mirrors to hide the actual performance difference.
Bit silly if what you are saying is correct as reviews will show it's real performance?

Well i posted a chart earlier in the thread, showed the XTX (AIO cooled) and XT (Air cooled XTX) were ref only, so AMDs AIO and Crappy blower, only The cut-down XL was coming custom cooled.

Wether its true or not, pass. :p
You sure you won't be buying one or two Vega's Loadsa? :p
