The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Gundam seems such a huge franchise, I'm not sure it's a rabbit hole I want to go down. I think a lot of the fanbase grew up with it.

It is a big story with multiple spin off and alternative timelines which can be daunting but if you haven't watched before to ease you in. Would recommend

Gundam 0083 (it's a classic)
Gundam 00

You can watch them without any prior knowledge.

Gundam Seed and seed destiny is it own universe. Again not connected to the main arc UC.. My personal favourite.

I think it's the kind of thing I'd tackle once I'd more or less seen everything else I wanted to.

Gundam Hathaway looked good so I was going to start with whatever I needed to see, for that to make sense.

I've dipped in and out of Gundam over the years, and as said it's multiple timelines often with most of the stories able to be watched independently.

Not sure how I would find that to be honest, I'm a big fan of single track stories with a moving narrative and some permanence to events/characters.

It's kind of like original NGE vs Rebuilds for me, different timeline on the Rebuilds didn't add anything for me, personally speaking anyway.

Episodic shows don't usually carry the same weight for me I guess.

1 Looks interesting, it's studio WIT and they usually do good work, but it's 2024 before it comes out.

2 Doesn't look great, I'm not really into the 3D CG, especially when they use it for main characters. Only a couple of exceptions to that, Land of the Lustrous was amazing.

3 I don't think it's an official anime as the studio isn't based in Japan, more like a western style anime I guess. Actually looks pretty good though from the trailer, it's out in November, could be worth a try based on the trailer shown.

i knew nothing about about gundam but watched gundam seed and seed destiny which continues the story and i loved them, pretty much self contained stories, i branched out to some of the other ones and enjoyed them but i loved seed the best :)

just started watching baki the other night and that is one messed up anime in a good way, the sheer over the topness is mindblowing lol

don't get me wrong, when i say they can be watched independently you still get more out of watching all the stuff in one timeline, but most of the individual series don't require it for that specific series to make sense (assuming you don't try and watch say Seed Destiny without having watched Seed or IIRC the recap movie*).
Basically it's like watching Spiderman, you don't have to have watched The Hulk for it to make sense, as opposed to going into Avengers Endgame without watching any of the rest (it's closer to watching say Guardians of the Galaxy and if you're a long term comic book fan catching all the little references in scenes like the Collector).
From memory one of the best Gundam stories is basically standalone set inside one of the main timelines following a ground unit, and it's a short OVA series to boot.

*I think several of them have recap movies intended to air/be shown to remind you of what happened when say the gap between Series 1 and 2 might have been a year or more.

Thanks chaps, will definitely come back and revisit it, I wanted to watch the Hathaway movie but there was a few things I needed to see before it for it to make sense.

For the standalone series are you talking about Iron Blooded Orphans? I thought it was OK but wasn't hugely into it honestly.

I know most people in here wont really care but im so hyped for ship waifus.....

Whatever floats your boat! (sea what I did there?!).

Chainsaw man is amazing!!! Very nice graphics and mega violent.

One I intend to check out soon, it looked good from one of the trailers I saw.

I'm catching up on Summertime Rendering now it's all out which is very good, a lot of the time it looks amazing as well but some scenes definitely lack the same quality, noticeably so.

From this season I think Spy X Family has gotten off to a good start.

Eminence in Shadow had an interesting first episode but I need to see where it goes next before I would rec it or otherwise.

Akiba Maid War currently gets my wtf of the season so far!

Chainsaw Man started strong out of the gate, didn’t waste time setting up the character at all. It showed rather than tell its powers and characters. Looking forward for more.

Lol i did, genius!

Kancolle will always have a soft spot in my heart since its the first anime i watched (and i played the game for about 3-4 years). It has a lot of real life ww2 ship history built into the chracters too. For example Yamato's armband is the flag that would be flown by the flagship of the fleet and her character had been hidden away and hasn't gone on sorties because of how valuable she was and how resource intensive she is which tallies to the real life Yamato. That level of bot nerdery plus cutesy anime stuff = win :D

Chainsaw man killed it with the first episode. Lets hope it can keep the hype

Chainsaw Man was good, CGI was a little ropey in a couple of places, but I'm sort of used to it as MAPPA do a fair bit of CGI. Will see how it progresses. I thought the scenery was really good actually, the locations and settings were very nicely done.

Your Kancolle is probably something like my Elfen Lied, it's not the greatest anime but I have a soft spot for it as I watched it pretty early on :)

Anyone watch Jujutsu kaisen 0? Wasn't that bad but expected more like a few domain expansions.

I thought it was pretty good. Remember its a prequel so obviously there going to be a few easter eggs but doesnt have the same content as the main show.

Just seen there’s new Bleach on Disney+ after 10 years! Nani?!

Apparently it's an ending of sorts.

I never actually finished Bleach, went off it around the time of the Espada season (the Spanish themed one). Super long running shonen isn't what I usually gun for these days.

Longest thing I've fully watched is probably Monogatari which is around 100 episodes in length.

If the new season is good I may have to catch up and watch the rest without filler episodes sometime.

Did you watch the whole espada arc? Was probably the best in the series. The first time they make their entrance and slap up ichigo was chefs kiss

No I don't think I quite hit the end of it, this was a long, long time ago though, over a decade.

I'll monitor for how good the current season appears to be, to see if it's worth going back through the old stuff, would have a bit of catching up to do.
