The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

It's fine, we knew this would happen. I can't talk about what went down but we were screwed over and the options were A) not finish and air nothing and call it a loss, B) Just finish and air ep 1 and leave it incomplete or C) run all four, warts and all. Out of respect for the hard work we chose C.

Oh...so does that mean the rest of the anime is similar in quality to episode 2? I've not watched any of it yet, but am a huge fan of Junji Ito, so I was going to get round to it at some point. That'd be disappointing if it's Berserk 2016 2.0

SO Dandadan is wild, def going to keep watching, but was at a friends house earlier watching it and there were a few awkward moments lol

edit: Thought i recognised the style for the intro music, its Creepy nuts who did the intro for call of the night

Watched the second episode of Ranma, still enjoying it and getting flashbacks to the old DVD's, so far it really does feel like they're largely retelling it with very few differences that I can remember (but it has been about 20 years).

Also watched the first episode (or is it two?) of Dandadan and i'm enjoying that.

I've never watched an anime series before, can anyone recommend something to start with please?

It looks like Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is the highest rated, is it worth jumping straight into that, or do I need to ease myself in? Thanks.

Ideally, I'd like to watch something that's complete, and not a new series for now.

What kinda stuff are you looking to watch? Sci-fi, action, shounen, more adult thrillers, slice of life, comedy, sports, fantastical, mecha...There are so, so many genres of anime, it's kinda hard to recommend without somewhere to start.

Or maybe what kinda normal TV shows have you watched/enjoyed?

Brotherhood is great. BUT I'd recommend trying to watch the first segment, maybe even half of the original Full Metal Alchemist show first. It did a much better job of fleshing out the back story and relationship with thier mother, also handled Tucker a bit differently. After that swap to Brotherhood. You'll get a little bit of repeat but a lot of extra context, and the much more manga accurate ending and progression.

And no one watched Spice and Wolf and can give a spoiler free appraisal on if it was any good, especially compared to the original version - looking at you @Werewolf?

Thanks for the in-depth reply, much appreciated.

I love Star Trek, so sci-fi sounds like a good option, Invincibles, Wednesday, Only Murders In The Building, Doctor Who, The Boys, Stranger Things, Scavengers Reign, etc.

Thank you, I think I read somewhere that the first 20 episodes of the original are true to the manga, and it goes off on its own after that?

More or less true, but it also focuses more on how they got where they are at the point of the story, whereas Brotherhood I think already assumes you saw the original so it throws you in the deep end more, a bit further into the story and then has some flashbacks; but they're not as impactful (IMO) as the original anime managed. Watching both gives you the context and probably a bit more emotional investment going into what Brotherhood presents :)

Also if you like Hard Sci-Fi as opposed to more fantastical Sci-Fi, you may really enjoy Planetes [Debris collection..., honestly doesnt sound exciting, but watch it, its fantastic and a lot of real science in it] :)
Mecha also often leans hard into full Scifi, I'd recommend Full Metal Panic as a good entry into that genre, as it isnt as serious, and at least one of the series (Fumoffu) is a full blown fish-out-of-water comedy; and the last series made for it was actually only released a few years ago. I kinda hope they make more.
If you don't mind older anime, Banner of the Stars was great (full sci-fi drama), and although I've never got around to watching it Legend of the Galactic Heroes always comes strongly recommended.
Steins Gate is worth a watch, Cowboy Bebop, Gurren Lagaan also. Gundam/Macross are almost thier own entire genre adjacent to mecha at this point.
Parasyte. For SURE Ghost in the Shell.
Knights of Sidonia maybe too, although I dont like the CGI animation style.

Edit: Sorry added a lot more here as my mind wandered back into the past, I've not had time to watch as much in more recent years.

Should give Death Note a try. English dub is excellent.

Is there anywhere to watch Full Metal Alchemist in the UK? Doesn't seem to be on CR or Netflix.

Haven't been here in a bit been slacking. I haven't started the new seasonal stuff yet either.

I'm currently working through the Nier anime now that they got all episodes out without breaks/production issues stopping me watching more.

Will probably pick up new stuff once that I've finished with Nier.

I think my fav show from last season was probably Too many losing Heroines. it was pretty self-aware and was almost like a parody of the romance genre. Nice animation and interesting shenanigans made it beat the Alya Russian one for me personally.

We had Oshi no Ko S2 as well which I liked though it was fairly different to Season 1 in some ways, I don't think it was in a bad way and it's good to branch out a bit.

This looks interesting. Art and effects are superb.

This looks good!

Has anyone else seen there is a Lord of the Rings anime coming out? also looks good!

Thank you for the list, much appreciated, should keep me going for the next couple of years anyway!

Being a UC Gundam fan, I have watched episode 1-3 of the new Gundam Requiem of vengeance on netflix.

It's not that bad, very interesting mix of use of Unreal engine 5 for the animation.
A bit confused on the timeline of the events, whether it's set before the events the white base lands on earth or after they rekted Garma and beat Ramba ral.

I've been really off amy anime consumption game recently. Still catching up on stuff from last season. Think its a combination of being busy, ill a lot and maybe burnt out a little from watching too much trash.

I'm wading my way back into it though!. On the upside my Holo figure from Amiami has shipped and should be here next week!

Thought it was pretty good. The animation was pretty good in certain parts but the character face effects could have been better.

They made the Gundam to be an absolute monster. He was pretty much invulnerable to all attacks.

Never seen that variant. RX78 EX??

Yeah I thought the animation and CGI was decent myself.
I believe it falls into the long list of other variants of the rx-78, like the prototype, G3,Alex etc.
However it could be alternative universe similar to thunderbolt.
