I can't say that I'm overly impressed with this seasons new shows so far (new series as opposed to season 2's or continuations) ...
Accel World .... this seems quite good but it will depend on where it goes after the first episode. I like most of the episode up until the very last part ... if it turns into one of those sorts of series then it's likely to be just average really.
Acchi Kocchi ... was reasonably funny but very much like a cross between Lucky Star and A Channel (one of the principle characters also looks a lot like Konata from Lucky Star).
Space Brothers ... I wanted to like this but I'm just not feeling anything for the characters at all.
It was interesting to see that CrunchyRoll had a news piece up talking about what series were in the spring season 10 years ago ... things included Azumanga Diaoh, Chobits, Tokyo Mew Mew, .hack//Sign, Ai Yori Aoshi, Tenchi Muyo! GXP, Happy Lesson, The Twelve Kingdoms, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi and Gate Keepers 21 amongst others ... I'm not sure that the new series starting now are likely to have the staying power of some of the above series.
Accel World has some interesting character designs, will have to see how that one goes.
Acchi Kocchi really does remind me of Lucky Star. I can see myself sticking with this. It seems to be the harmless fluff show this season.
I can see Space Brothers picking up a bit once the 'training' begins. I think it has potential.
It's hard to really offer an opnion on that news article as i only watched or recognise a handful of those shows. it just goes to show how finite the lifetime and appeal of some series are, blink and you've missed them. Which is a shame really as there are some real gems that pop up from time to time.
It's such a consumer driven industry and stopping power is so hard to aquire that unless you have some way of prolonging and expanding a show or franchise into other areas such as video games, toys/figures and card games.
Like all of the other entertainment industries it's such a consumer driven market. We consume new shows and have our fill as each new season comes out, only to discard a large chunk of them as the new season starts and new content is provided to satisfy or thirst for new content.
Of the last decade or so i struggle to really list shows that have had any sort of significant stopping power financially and in terms of popularity. Haruhi and FMA definitely spring to mind.
I think shows have got 'cuter' during the last few years, which has been good for some things, but not everything.
The anime industry as a whole isn't really that healthy at the moment and i do think it's lost some of what it had a decade or so ago.
