The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Not been watching that much this week for various reasons ... did manage to have a quick watch through the original Tamayura OVAs.

Also watched videos of two K-ON! live concert events which were very good (although you could tell a definite improvement in the singing and playing between the two for the parts where the performers were actually playing instead of pretending to play. Also, due to the first episode of the AKB0048 anime, watched through a video of one of their concerts (which was long and .... interesting).

Did see something interesting today; Danny posted here about how you can sponsor the GoodSmile racing team (and get some goodies in the process). There's various levels of sponsorship (to get goodies its a minimum of 8000yen (+2500yen EMS shipping)) and there is info in English on the site linked to through from Danny's. Sponsorships are being taken up until Monday night (Japanese time). Apparently they are actually quite good (Wikipedia seems to indicate that the team won the GT300 series last year and the results indicate that they came 1st and 11th in the latest race this year).

It is a very old series, that I don't think we got everything released in the uk. You may have to look into importing, if you have a multi region DVD player that is. Amazon.com and TRSI have stock, but I don't know what series of Tenchi your after.

The problem you'll have is that a lot of Tenchi was released by Geneon and hence is not currently available. For example, the first two OVAs were released by Geneon (Geneon/MVM in the UK) and the third by Funimation (Funimation/Revelation in the UK) ... hence whilst it's possible to find the third OVA relatively easily (assuming the R1 is ok) as it was a Funimation license it's more difficult to find the first two for a reasonable price.

But, I would suggest giving up ... for now. Watch something else and then come back to Tenchi next year ... why? ... because Funimation have supposedly license rescued all of the Geneon Tenchi properties so should eventually release them in the US at least. They have been stuck in the logjam caused by the Geneon - Universal stuff which has affected a lot of Funimation's rescues of Geneons old titles but there have been signs now that things are starting to move again at last.

Outstanding license recuses to be released by Funimation include the other Tenchi OVAs Funimation didn't have, the Tenchi movies, Tenchi in Tokyo and Tenchi Universe. TRSI lists the current Funimation Anime Classics release for Ryo-ohki (OVA 3) and the S.A.V.E release of GXP. You could pick up the old Tenchi in Tokyo and movie collections from there as well if you didn't want to wait but I wouldn't try and track down expensive releases elsewhere or bother with incomplete singles sets as any future release is liable to be cheaper and be in complete sets.

memyselfandi has pretty much summed it up with regards to tenchi, unfortunately a lot of Genon/Pioneer's catalogue is still not back out (and some likely never will:().

From memory I ended up having trouble getting Universe and Tokyo when I went after them a couple of years back.

I would love to see some sort of mega pack sometime :)
24 or so discs isn't that many for a LE package...:p

I doubt we will see a LE package for Tenchi ... more likely the releases will get the Funimation Anime Classics treatment the same as OVA 3. Whilst it is a relatively well known show it is also an older title now and most of the original fans would have the older releases limiting the market on a re-release unless it was very special.

I still haven't settled on my next series to watch after Idolm@ster, my mate keeps recommending me Wolf's Rain but not sure if I'm in the mood for it right now, or something quite so serious (or I'd be tempted to crack open my Ef BD). Also been recommended Kamisama Dolls to watch, which might be more appropriate as at least it's quite short.

I have the day off tomorrow with minimal plans atm so I want to decide on something!

I've saw the first couple of episodes of Kamisama Dolls when it was airing but not got around to watching the entire series yet ... what I saw was ok though. Having watched Wolfs Rain a few months ago I'm struggling to remember what it is even about ... it obviously left a large impression on me.

Personally I'd go for something upbeat and fairly light and humorous given the greyness of the weather lately ... and it doesn't need to be a single cour, depending on what else you have to do it's quite easy to watch 2 cours in one day (I got through all of the first season of Clannad yesterday ;))

Hmmm, Gundam or Patlabor would be an option...or even FMP...hmm.
I was also thinking Azumanga Daiou or Bamboo Blade, as again I've not seen them yet ...or Sound of the Sky/Beserk...but Im just not sure haha. It's kinda the case I have a raft of genre options...I'm just REALLY not sure what I actually fancy.

Not really sure. I'm stuck at work this evening through and its almost always DEAD on Sunday evenings due to the line of work I'm in; so I've grabbed my Cowboy Bebop DVDs to start if it does stay quiet. I've not seen it yet :) but picked it up because of how often you hear it's a classic, and with Beez gone it made sense to grab at the time.
I do fancy watching something else besides CB tomorrow though.

I couldnt resist the pretty packaging on SnW (that and it being another Beez), and it got a really strong recommendation on another site I visit, so yeah I keep thinking, mmm, I should watch this. Azumanga is as you said considered somewhat of a comedy classic (although humour is individual), and Bamboo Blade is meant to be relaxing :)

I keep thinking I must order Clannad's BDs from the states too, as well as the second half of Ef, but with Clannad I want to wait til A~S is available, as I consider the two a pair, and money keeps cropping up...I really OUGHT to spend some money on some new tyres etc for my car this month for example, and my budget is being drained by other avenues.

Bamboo Blade is really another of those titles which could do with another series ... just the one is not enough. Other than that it's generally a good fun watch.

I know what you mean with anime comedy series being a matter of individual taste though ... I like maybe 80% of Azumanga Daioh but there are other comedies which I just don't get on with at all (for example Excel Saga and Pani Poni Dash). With this title I like the anime but hated the overly Americanised ADV manga release (although the Yen Press manga release I found to be a lot better).

You are in luck with Clannad BDs ... After Story is currently solicited for a BD release at the end of July so you'll be able to look at getting them ... I maybe slightly biased though as they are one of my all time favorite titles and I have just rewatched both series over the last couple of days on the JP BD release :D

I always for get the level of humour in the first season and get hit every time by the events of the second half of the second season ... but all in a good way :)

So after two days of Clannad ;) I watched/re-watched a couple of films today ...

Firstly the Nanoha Movie 1st on the JP LE BD release. Basically this tells the story of the first series on how Nanoha meets Fate. Includes some rather nice animation and battles. My favourite character is the captain of the dimension ship (even though she takes her green tea with milk and sugar).

The other film I saw was The Princess and the Pilot. It's a fairly simple and straight forward film with a fairly basic plot. The characters are reasonable and the plot is ok. The animation of the dogfight scenes are pretty good. Overall it reminded me of Sky Crawlers in that the animation had obviously been worked on carefully but maybe a bit more thought should have been put in to fleshing out the story more.

Other than that I watched a few ongoing episodes including ...

Bodacious Space Pirates ... latest episode was pretty good and concluded the current arc (although it did seem to wrap things up a bit quickly at the end instead of finishing things off properly).

AKB0048 ... second episode continued things well .. lots of nice music and high speed action. More characters introduced and overall it continued to be better than I expected. Really like the OP and would like to import the single for it (if one is released).

Hyouka ... interesting little series. Seems to suffer a bit from lack of depth of plot but something was introduced this episode which could imply that this may change ...

Space Brothers ... again an interesting series. I find some of the characters annoying but overall I'm enjoying it.

Out of curiosity - where do people generally buy their Anime DVDs/Manga from, or which have you found to be the cheapest? Have been using Amazon and Waterstones the past years myself but they don't always seem to have a full catalogue (such as missing volumes of Ergo Proxy at the rainforest).

For normal releases the first two vendors listed in the first post in this thread plus Amazon (UK/US). Normally United Publications due to them shipping to my work and not having to worry about Customs.

edit: I'll expand a bit, I normally use United Publications for US releases, they are definitely not the cheapest but they are the most convenient for me as they happily ship to a non-credit card address (probably after the first order but it's been a while) and because they are importing in the UK and then sending things out to you from Kent you don't have to worry about Customs charges as they have already taken care of it. This means I can ship to work and not have to be worried them being carded as there is some duty to pay. Rightstuf (TRSI) can be cheaper but can occur charges on larger orders and only ship to the credit card address for international orders. Amazon US can have some good deals too but be careful with shipping and possible Customs charges.

For UK releases I'd normally consider Amazon UK over United Publication as they are normally cheaper and quicker but it's worth comparing. I refuse to use a certain Jersey based retailer after past experiences with them.

I have come across PlanetAxel and Anime On-line who Alex mentions below but haven't actually used them myself.

Given that Ergo Proxy is OOP currently I'm not surprised if retailers have some volumes missing.

Ummm, well I import as well as buy UK, but my traditional first points of call are:

PlanetAxel (no customs!!)
Rightstuff (US based)
United Publications (UK Based)
Anime-On-Line (UK Based, MVM's online store)
Amazon US/UK.

To clear things up regarding purchasing from my experiences.

Planetaxel is the cheapest of most of those I use, but you have to pay for items once you've ordered then (and that includes pre-orders) and they don't stock anything distributed by NISAmerica or Aniplex USA.

Rightstuf used to be a good bet before they started declaring the exact amount on the customs forms (but then that doesn't count for books which are exempt from customs charging), but the other problem is they won't ship any aniplex USA release outside the states (except for the fate/zero box which would come with a huge customs bill).

United publications is a safe bet since they're UK based (so you don't get stung with customs charges) although the prices are a bit high in comparison to planetaxel (but there about a match for those from rightstuf if you factor in their expensive $11 first item shipping charge) and they can still get all the aniplex USA releases.

Amazon UK is probably the one not to pre-order from since that certain Jersey based retailer that andi mentioned was shipping copies of the highschool of the dead BD while Amazon were sitting on their backsides and not doing anything so I cancelled my order from then and ordered it from elsewhere.
