The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Still a poor picture, but you get the idea, hung the undine canvases this morning. Need to tweak their positioning slightly still but you get the idea.

(for reference each is 40x60cm). Overall I'm pretty happy how they turned out. And hanging these along with three other Japanese (non-anime) ones made for a productive morning. I just would like the other four canvases I have on order to come by the end of the week now so I can get them put up while I have time to do so.

On the watching front I fitted in a couple of series over the weekend ...

Dragonaut The Resonance - on Funimations S.A.V.E. release. It's a fairly ok sci-fi series with some reasonable characters but there isn't really much in the way of growth despite the series being two cours. There are some pretty good episodes but there are some other time when I struggled to keep awake. Overall it was one of those series which I think could have been better than it was.

Dog Days ... ok this is a short and fairly silly series. It's light fantasy with the old cliché about a character being transported to another world where he ends up helping the residents. It's a very upbeat series overall with a lack of "bad guys" throughout. I quite enjoyed it as a series which you can turn your brain off for.

Finished Kami-sama Dolls last night.
Not a bad series although there's very little in the way of closure, and it seems stilted towards there being a second series planned or intended, which the ending even verifies with a 'To be next story'...yes they did get to be continued wrong :D

Still, whilst not amazing, it was a fun serious with enough plot twists and likeable enough characters, just a shame it's basically unfinished.

Unfortunately I'm working 3/4 days of this bank holiday weekend so not really getting as much time as I could to indulge my own hobbies compared to a lot of people.

Finished watching a couple more things ...

Another ... ok this isn't a series which sits in one of my preferred genres. Overall though I did find it reasonably good, if a bit gruesome at times, with some reasonable characters and pretty nice art styling. I did find that you could guess what the characters needed to do roughly two episodes before they realised it. If you liked When They Cry then you'll probably like this.

Sora no Manimani ... a re-watch of another favourite series of mine. Simple series about a boy (with Ghibli hair) who returns to a city, where he lived a small child, as a highschool student and is sucked into the Astronomy club by a childhood friend. The series follows the activities of the club. It has nice characters and isn't to complicated so is easy to switch off too ...

Yay, the OP/ED single for AKB0048 has been finally listed for 1st August :)

I don't think I've posted in this thread before, I'm currently watching Welcome to the NHK with only got 6 episodes left and I know already that I'm going to miss the characters once it's finished.

The canvasses look good there on the wall, nice one. :)

I loved another actually when I watched it, really was the best series of the season for me.

On a side note, I couldn't believe how much AKB48 there was in Tokyo, even with the drum rhythm game in the arcades advertising they had songs by them available.

Where you getting these from and how much?

I'm a pretty big fan, got a few posters and wallscrolls myself, but these are very nice!

Please share, got a few friends who want to know as well. :)

Images sourced using Google and various anime image sites to get high res sources. Canvases produced by Cewe Photoworld, normally they would cost (for this size) £50 each but every so often they have good discounts on their products .... Here I made use of their sale on certain types of wall art, including canvases, during May and got them at 70% off.

If they weren't on sale then I would not have bothered getting them due to the prices but it's a case of keeping an eye on their Facebook and Twitter feeds for when they are having a discounts (and having a folder of images ready so you can act fast is something comes up). Unfortunately the really big canvas sale tends to come once a year, last year it was pre Mothers Day, this year it was throughout May for the run up to Fathers Day. There will likely be other sales but they will probably be shorter and may not be so much off. There are of course other vendors providing the same sort of service.

I would also note that I do have quite a reasonably sized collection of official art books including five by Kozue Amano.

Thanks, I like them to and have a couple more non-undine ones on the way. What I would really like though is the original image of the right most canvas. It was used in the DVD advertisement for one of the volumes in Japan on big posters and would look really good at that size (a lot bigger than this canvas). Unfortunately I've only seen them being made available second hand via Yahoo JP auctions (a good few years ago now) and normally in less than great condition with no international shipping ... that and I don't have the spare wall space for something that size.

Don't get me wrong, I think Another was a very well done series with reasonable production values, but it was not really to my taste at times due to its genre.

Whilst I like of their songs I can't say that I really approve of AKB48 particularly around some of their marketing to their (creepy in some cases) fans. The way that they encourage them to purchase multiple copies, in some cases taken to extremes, in order to vote for their favourite idols or to be able to get tickets to handshaking events etc. I was reading the other day about one fan who bought thousands of pounds worth of one CD so he (well I assume he) could vote 1770 times for his favourite idol .... madness. My preferred idols tend not to have quite as large a marketing machine shoving them down your throat at every opertunity and tend to be quite a bit older than the members of AKB48 ...

I finished watching Kami-sama Dolls today and I basically agree with you. There were times where it was a bit messy and the series seemed to prefer to introduce things rather than actually move things forward but the biggest problem was that it didn't seem to actually come to any form of conclusion ... just the "to be next story" ;)

Finished watching/re-watching a couple more things today ...

Maji de Watashi ni Koi Shinasai!! ... ok this series is on of those which could have been better than it was ... but failed on several points. The first episode didn't really mesh with the rest of the series, (it involved a mass battle between two classes, but then the rest of the series involved the same subset of characters for the most part completely outside of this environment) ... the rest of the series had the usual group of female characters like male character (for unknown reasons) and hence this causes conflict. There is a story on top of this but it isn't really that good or deep. There is also a robot which looks a bit like the old robby the robot and a small talking (well not really) wooden horse. There is nothing new here and it is a series which has broadcast censorship which is removed on media release.

Saki ... the first season. A nice series about mahjong which has a few issues with pacing (single matches can take slightly too many episodes). I like the series and am currently also following series 2 (which has had now been announced to having an additional 3 episodes over its single cour length.

Just finished the first 2 dvds of K-ON!! today:D
It seems they have listened to public outcry ad not included the English dub of the music videos:D

UK release? Personally I should have Sentai's first half of season 2 BD release waiting for me at work on Monday :) Anyway there is nothing wrong with the English dubs of the music videos which judicious use of the mute button wouldn't fix ...

Finished watching a couple of other things today ...

Kamen no Maid Guy ... getting on a bit now in art style but reasonably amusing in a limited sort of way (it has several jokes and recycles them again and again). It's a comedy with quite a bit of fanservice about a pair of high schoolers who end up having a couple of (violent) maids looking after them. It is another series though which really needed a second series ....

C^3 (CubexCursedxCurious) ... fairly good supernatural series about cursed items (who are humanoid), The series is nicely animated (particularly the OP sequences) but there is a bit of overuse of "light" affects at times as if the animator suddenly got a plugin to do it so felt he had to get his monets worth out of it. It was a reasonably amusing series but again could probably do with a second series.

I'm hoping to watch Roujin Z today as my order from MVM arrived yesterday :)
I think that'll be the first anime I've watched properly in a couple of weeks at least (not enough time/energy to watch more)
