The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

That picture is like a list of stuff I've been meaning to watch :p (either again or for the first time).

I just finished watching Nadesico TV and Prince of Darkness as I couldn't sleep, and I'd forgotten how good the TV series is, and the film is better than I remember it :)
It's hard to believe Nadesico is something like 15 years old now

I'm going to try the Gekigenger OVA's tomorrow/later today.

and the film is better than I remember it

That might be because it doesn't have the horrendous black bars ADV put on their release.

I've only gotten through the TV series and I'm still at a loss as to how much of it was re-animated since there was hardly any difference between this release and the last release from ADV.

Finished a couple of things in the last day or so ...

Sasameki Koto ... fairly simple yuri series where the majority of the characters fail to really get anywhere. There are some reasonable characters (comparisons can be drawn between some of them and those in Aoi Hana which is in the same genre) and the general story is ok but over all it is quite a slow and weak series.

Ro-Kyu-Bu! ... elementary students playing basketball. This could possibly be a good series but overall it overdid the lolicon aspects without really keeping the humour level up. It could have been better and possibly been extended to 2 cours and been more interesting but that would have involved concentrating more on the sports aspects and loosing some of the needless other bits ...

Demonix, from what I've heard it may have been mainly the fight in the first episode of Nadesico.

I just checked Amazon and picked up a Fruits basket Ultimate edition vol 1 for under a fiver:p I'm going to have to try and pick up the rest of the series, as I've stupidly put it off (probably for too long as I think it's OOP).

I also noticed my CCS omnibus 4 is "dispatching soon", which surprised me as that wasn't listed there for release until December, yet my Love Hina omnibus is running late;)

Also it looks like Anime-on-line is back up, but not full operational, I'll give them another go and re-order Rosario & Vampire season 2 if they do the offer on it again, but I'll probably be using them for other stuff again soon anyway (they're currently accepting paypal until their new third party processor is sorted).

...

If they had December listed for CCS omnibus 4 then that was a mistake on their part in their listing as my pre-order from UP has always indicated that that volume was due at the end of September/beginning of October :)

Although by the time it gets to "me" it will probably end up sitting in the mail room at work with Yotsuba&! vol. 11 and Strike Witches S2 BD/DVD combo for three weeks :(

Demonix, from what I've heard it may have been mainly the fight in the first episode of Nadesico.

That was the only scene where I noticed any difference (I did mention this about one page back).

I watched the movie yesterday, and it is definitely a vast improvement over the ADV release now that those black bars have gone (I've just got the gekigangar 3 OVA to get through).

memyselfandi, ah that would explain it:p

demonix, I can't remember black bars on the movie - was it the old ADV US version you saw or the UK one? (I've got the UK one somewhere, and it may be that the US version had them, but not the UK).

The Gekigangar OVA is a little odd, it's half the clips they showed in the TV series, and then a mini episode, I think it was definitely done at least in part to link the TV series to the game.

arekgreenman888 Fullmetal Panic might tickle your fancy, I'm trying to think of more, but at the moment my brain is a tad fried (not enough sleep over the past few days, and I've spent much of the day getting armie lists sorted for wargames).

I still find it hard to believe that MSN is as old as it is, and that they've not gone back to it :( (I was reading last night as I couldn't sleep, and found suggestions that they were planning on more, but it got canned quite close to when they would have started work properly on it).

Whilst they haven't really gone back to MSN, Microsoft do have have business IM products such as OCS/Lync ... use OCS all the time at work for audio/video conferencing as well as just text IMs. It works quite well for what it is but unfortunately we're being pushed to use it instead of email and that has downsides (you can ignore email more easily if you are concentrating on something).

Anyway, watched a couple of last episodes earlier ...

Accel World ... over all I quite liked this series. At a high level it's about an unpopular kid (short and fat) who gets involved with a virtual reality fighting game. I was worried at first that the series might descend into a fight of the week type of series but it managed to avoid that. The characters and story were interesting and the animation was pretty reasonable. The series ends at the end of a plot arc but is left open for more in the future as the over-arcing story isn't complete.

Aesthetica of a Rogue Hero ... ok so you have a fairly unlikable main character, a demon princess and quite a bit of fanservice. The story was pretty simple, and the amount of plot covered could have probably been covered in 4-5 episodes in a better series which didn't rely so much on service. It wasn't a massively bad series but there just wasn't really anything that good about it ... it was just fairly weak. Again this ends at the end of a story but leaves the main plot open for more in the future.

Ah I meant MSN as in Martian Successor Nadesico:p (ignore me if i'm getting confused - I'm more asleep than awake).
Although what MS have done with MSN the im client annoys the heck out of me:p (it's bloated, has annoying flash adverts etc :p

Just finished watching code geass. Great show.

Got to admit. A tear or two welled up at the end. :(

SPOILER ALERT

Lelouche isn't dead imo. He took Charles code when he killed him

It is the US release that I have, and the black bars were integrated into the actual video (if I decided to zoom the picture then the subtitles at the bottom of the screen would be cut off).

Possibly Steins;Gate ?

Anyway ... finished a couple of Summer '12 series last night ...

The Ambition of Oda Nobuna ... ok we've seen these sort of series before; take a historical setting, replace most of the main characters with attractive female versions of themselves, add a pinch of fanservice (quite often a large pinch in these types of series), mix and bake for 12 episodes. Here we have the addition of a modern high school boy who has fallen back through time and fallen in with the main characters. He helps Oda move forward with her plan to unify Japan using information from historical strategy games he's played.

Overall this series was a lot better than I expected. The fanservice wasn't as bad as it can be with this sort of series, the characters were reasonable and the story was engaging. The series ends the end of a story but is left very open for more in the future.

Tari Tari ... fairly simple little series about a group of kids who want to perform together. Being the type of series it is all of them have their back story of problems and the series covers these, in varying levels of detail. The characters are good and the series looks really nice graphically (it's by P A Works).

There are times though when it seems a little unfocused. The first half of the series was very nice but as it neared the end it seemed to rush forward slightly too quickly. It was interesting to see that the story didn't follow the usual pattern for what usually happens in the type of plot which the series culminates with but the last 3 or so episodes seemed overly rushed. It is a series which probably could have benefited immensely from being longer. The series does have an ending which makes it unlikely that there will be a second series.

Still watching Steins Gate here and I'm finally getting the hang of it and starting to enjoy it! :) I gotta say though, when the protagonist has compunctions about
going out with a girl who IN A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT TIMELINE is a guy, that's a whole new level of transphobia I never thought I'd see! :D
That's why I don't buy the whole Star Trek utopic vision of the future: proper sci-fi is supposed to invent whole new ways for us to discriminate against each other! :p
