The anime thread sequel (it's still not as good as the Manga though),

Anyone know where I can get good info on the up coming animes?

Countdown.mandragon.info gives information on what shows are airing when although not necessarily information on the content of the show at this early stage. If it's licensed for streaming on Crunchyroll then there will be some information on there too.

Also if you go to the General Anime sub forum on Fandom Post there is normally a thread for each season which has links to usual infographics with details of the shows for that season (I'd post it but I'm on my iPad and my current copy is on my laptop)

That's an interesting one, and possibly if they're sucessfull it might lead to some more extensive projects (I have very fond memories of the OVA's from the 80's and early 90's that were funded mainly from the sale of the taoes).

I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but anime-on-line have Starship Operators for £4 at the moment on their weekly deal, and you can pay via paypal:p

Danny had an article on that Kickstarter project the other day. I like the idea but personally this project didn't tickle my fancy enough to want to donate.

Ah god fun with immigration at Narita this afternoon. They take your index finger prints and photo when you go through immigration ... well the reader wasn't reading my finger prints properly and the partial print was coming back as someone they were looking for!!! Had to be escalated and I got to go and wait in a dismal room whilst they ran further checks (which fortunately only took 5-10mins) before they let me go with profuse apologies ...

Whats good anime now? Last epic good was Ghost in Shell, Trigun, Cowboy Bepop, Outlaw star.

Any anime currently of this caliber please?

Tough question man, that's why nobody answered you! ;) Saw Bebop nearly 10 years ago and it's still my favourite anime, Ghost in the Shell a close second and definitely one of the most intelligent and demanding tv series ever made - can't think of any other one where 15' out of every 25' episode is spent discussing complex existential questions and namechecking more philosophers per minute than most philosophy students hear about in a semester! I assume you've seen both series and all the movies of that? There've been a few.

I can't think of anything quite as good as GITS but stuff like Ergo Proxy comes close. Gantz is also kind-of sci-fi with some philosophical introspection, but set in the present. Honestly struggling to think of anything else similar - if anyone else knows one I'd love another high-concept sci-fi show to watch too! :)

In terms of Cowboy Bebop a lot of shows have tried to emulate it but none quite make it. Samurai Champloo comes closest, similar art style and sense of humour and a great show in its own right. Black Lagoon also tried to create a similar vibe between the main characters, but it's quite a bit darker and grittier and lacks Bebop's creativity, variety and slightly unhinged humour. A lot of the same people who did Bebop also worked on Wolf's Rain, and it shows, it's a great show, but completely different than Bebop.

Frankly your quest is doomed and you'll never find any shows quite as good as those two, but you're gonna have a lot of fun on the way! :)

Came across this earlier :)

I think the only one I haven't watched was Nichijou :)

Didn't realize all those were made by the same studio, Clannad and Haruhi alone are so radically different in tone and style - I actually loved Haruhi but Clannad bored me to tears (ducks to avoid pelted vegetables) :p

I remember I had issues it working on my finger, in the end the guy just pushed my finger down really hard and it worked. I then had to explain I wasn't staying in a hotel but a house when his English was as good as my Japanese. :p

I have watched Tonari no Kaibutsu-kun so far out of the new series. Really enjoyed the first episode, very crazy and random but it is funny. Definitely looking forward to more episodes of it.

I finished watching Shakugan no Shana last night which was good, and I see there is a second season out now/soon in the states which I may have to look at getting :)

I've also started on Starship Operators, which looks like it could be interesting (very similar character designs to Salty Rei and a few others I've seen in the last couple of years).

And on Monday it's Rosario and Vampire S2:p

I liked Starship Operators ... it was a nice interesting series. The second Shana series has slipped to December and there should also be releases around then of the movie and the OVA?

I think out of the Mandarake "shops" in Shibuya, Nakano and Akihabara I prefer Shibuya ... ok it's a bit of a cave (you descend down two floors of star cases to a sub-basement (with the star lighting appearing to including the interesting choice of strobes) but once you are there the range of stuff available is good. It doesn't have the downsides of the multiple sub-stores of Nakano (which store owns this case the thing I want is in) and is easier to move around compared with the Akiba store.

Never did go to any of the other Mandarake stores other than the Akihabara store. That's where my Kurisu Makise figma is from, it is a bit of a mission walking around it at busy periods!

I finished starship operators, which I thought was a good story, with a few unexpected twists and turns.
I wasn't quite expecting what happened at the end

Yeah I enjoyed it too,Was hoping for a second series but it has been out a while now so not likely to happen:(
I did feel it went the way of the space opera genre(bigger guns/battles/ships with each episode)

Mandarake is the best :D

I use their web store a lot.

I've never used their webstore, other than to find their physical stores (which has improved enormously since they switched to using Google maps instead of the maps they had before ... that were so bad i had to resort to Google Street View to find their Osaka store last time ...).

Saitrix, if you go out there again I definitely suggest taking a look at the other locations ... the Akiba store was definitely the worst for me of their stores I've been too, small tightly packed floors with poor access ... I had better luck with the Book Off store by Akiba station than it. The KBooks in the same building as the Goodsmile Cafe was good though (although rather packed on a baking hot Saturday afternoon)

I forgot to say the other day, but Anime-on-line have Gun X Sword as their offer of the week for a tenner :)

I finished watching Rosario & Vampire Capu2 last night which was good fun, if slightly more disjointed than the first season.
I'm probably going to start on Gun X Sword tonight.

Also it looks like Manga are releasing the second season of Shakugan no Shan in March :)

What channel is that?

A little heads up, apparently Zavvi are doing various Ghibli Blu/DVD double packs for about £11, and the Arriety deluxe one a pound or so more (Laputa isn't listed under blu-rays, but DVD's for it's double pack).

ok guys, talk to me about Gundam
Watched Wing(?) on toonami when it was showing (I think they restarted about 4-5 times?) but now I've found out the're MORE!?!!?
are they in some kinda order or just on the same theme?
is there an order to watch them in?

Is there more Gundam?

Short answer: Yes.

Long Answers, masses of of, in multiple series, OVA's and films, some of which are related (but might be years apart in their production date, sometimes with a different continuity of Gundam between two related titles), some are separate to anything, and some are only vaguely connected..

I've seen some of it myself, Wing, Seed (but not Seed: Destiny), X and Y, but there are loads to see, Anime News Networks encyclopaedia has a full listing of Gundam titles, and if you follow the links they're user rated (and ANN's encyclopaedia is quite handy in it states which titles are related to which, and how, IE if they are a prequel, sequel, or retelling of the same story).

Unfortunately I'm not really up on Gundam :(
