Nerusy, can you remember roughly when/where (IE was it on TV in the 90's?
It rings a bell, I don't think I've seen it*, but as it's ringing a bell despite that, it might be listed in ANN's buried treasure columns, where they went over older/obscure anime.
*Although I could be wrong, especially if it was on TV at some point.

Right this is going to be a long shot but lets give it a try, could you guys by any chance help me find a mecha anime I watched years and years ago back during the VHS days. I don't remember much so here goes all I could recall:
Main protagonist is a young male who's world is invaded by aliens (but aliens look exactly like "humans" in this movie). His girlfriend is killed so he joins the remaining forces to fight against the invasion. In one of the battles his battalion is crushed, there he lays near death and a female alien walks over to him and he half-alive hallucinates that that female alien is his girlfriend.
Another segment I remember is that in underground caves lies mechas, last line of defense of their world and people around this world are randomly teleported to this case to later pilot mechas, including our protagonist.
In the end that female alien joins forces with protagonist and his mecha gang to defeat evil alient (real alien this time, the last of his kind, looks like a monster) who was in charge of human-aliens by disguise.
Now I realize there's like 99,9% chance nobody knows what I am on about but I had to try

One more memory I suppose I could dig up is that female alien (they look like humans though) the one that main protagonist mistakes for his dead girlfriend saved him from getting shot to death (after battle was over I think enemy forces were going around and shooting anybody who was wounded or unconscious) and I think that's when he was teleported to the cave with mechas.
Also it is later revealed that this female alien also pilots a mecha I think it was red and they have a battle one on one female alien and the protagonist. She later joins him and rest of humans who were chosen to pilot them mechas.
Sounds like an awesome movie doesn't it lol
