***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

Look at the Metro 2033 results I mentioned :) Absolutely appalling stutter on an i5 clocked at 4.5GHz, but fine on an i7 at stock. It seems that when a game expects more than 4 cores and is CPU heavy, it causes some thread bottlenecks on the CPU that result in stutter. The average FPS is probably not all that different.

True a lot of games seem to be going this way of late.

Any need for post like that? I have no idea if it needed it or not just posting what hwinfo64 reported.

Some people.
Edit
After reading that back, I think you have issues. Go see a doctor.

Do you have a Porsche is that it? Or do you just use 2 parking spaces a lot?
What's the doctor gonna do, remove my sense of humour so I can be more like you? (OK, that was uncalled for, but you started the personal stuff).

I was just wondering if it needed all the 2.7GB as I'm sure there was a similar discussion around BF3 and it using more VRAM than it actually needed as 1.5GB cards could play without issues even though VRAM usage went above 1.5GB on cards with 2GB VRAM. So it was speculated that it was being a bit lazy with regards to clearing out VRAM and so appeared to use more than it actually needed to. I'm also not sure how you would tell if it's using it all but I was hoping that perhaps someone with a 2GB card could report if there were issues, rather than someone with a 3GB card.

Well there have been some stuttering issues, but it would seem that the stuttering is due to having an i5 and not an i7 :(

2gb is enough maxed out even @1600p, the problem is crap SLI support.

yeh i dont want to be right i have a 3570k in my gaming pc :(
but come xmas this could be the first big game that really needs a 8core to play smooth
amd being a sly foxy fox

60fps i doubt it be a big problem but playing on a faster screen...ye

OK my bad on slating you doctor said you fine :p

But the car speech was just uncalled for... Like I said I have no idea what bf4 does with vram so I would start talking about something I have no idea about. That's why my post was short and sweet 2.7gb reported by hwinfo64

:D

13.10v2 driver seems to work fine, tried it and works better than my 13,4.
also running 120hz for my set up insetad of 60hz does wonder.
had 60hz and wondered why it was so slow.

all low 5040x1050 single 7970 and I cant complain.

When I was playing I only saw about 90% cpu usage across all 4 cores. I was looking under the performance tab in task manager.

i think its hard to tell from that anyway, a lot games say they using 100% cpu when they really not

its more how well it uses that usage, if that makes sense :)

and you cant test it running about nowhere, it needs be when action starts with a lot of players, low res high fps

I was hitting a peak 72% usage per thread on a 4770k @ 4.6ghz with a single 780.

I wouldn't be surprised if i5's are falling over in this, they did the similar things in bf3 when paired up with enough gpu grunt.

Will see how close 4 threads of haswell come to choking a single high clocked 780 tonight, could be interesting if its only a few % away meaning 20nm cards next year could cause single card bottlenecks

If I am reading this thread right then surely its better to buy a 8 core AMD CPU ?

I was playing last night with my new 7990

At ultra I was getting 40-50fps, was very laggy but I'm guessing it's because it's a beta?

System spec
I5 760@4ghz
2x4gb xms3 1600mhz
Gigabyte 7990@stock

Looked in afterburner and hottest temp was 66 and my cpu bottlenecks my 7990 to 56% useage :( need a 4770k quick! Lol

Just ran it on a [email protected] and a 770 Lightning 1260/7000 Ultra preset - 1080

Latest drivers installed - it was unplayable, by this it was a stutter fest - vram used 1840

Dropped down to high preset and playable - vram used 1680

Early days i know but maybe the Alpha vram benchmark wasn't far off. :D

Don't like to say this - but me thinks you nailed it early on

Tonester, i believe you owe me a copy of Battlefield 4. Whilst one card can not provide playable fps and exceed the 2gb limit at 1440p/1600p, two cards certainly can. ;)

Discerning gamers in search of the highest possible level of detail may need to invest in some sort of SLI or CrossFire solution, and preferably with more than 2 GB of video memory per card.

Expect the parcel force storm map to use even more vram and be more demanding than Shanghai imo as well.

Please don't ask me to explain the above as I don't normally play these games.

Not always as ipc also plays its part, iirc someone hit a similar bottleneck on an 8 core amd chip with dual 7950's On bf3. All cores at 100% gpus around 80%. In theory though the amd chip should fair a little better then an i5, though sb i7 should really be a minimum requirement for someone wanting to get the best from bf4 with multi card setups :)
