***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

Here we go. :D

What was i saying the other day Rusty, it manifests itself in different ways ala fps drops but not always down to single digits. Anyway it doesn't matter what evidence i present you'll never convince some people. I hope Tone sticks to the agreement though and coughs up. :)

I thought you challenge with him was at 1080p not that it makes any difference to the rest of the thread.

The bet was up to 1600P, using up to or more than 2gb of vram and giving playable fps on single or dual card. This has now been proven. Debateable if its playable on the 690/770 SLI setup. No one likes fps drops into the low 20's due to lack of vram. However this does not happen on equivalent 7950/70's at 1600p, even when the map has loaded and im using 2.5gb+ of vram.

A quick look at the benchmarks i posted only the 2gb cards have this dramatic fps drop. This is as good as proof as we're going to get so at this stage im giving up. I've done my bit now. I'll let others come up with the excuses, ifs and buts.

EDIT

Thanks to Tommy for pointing me towards these results. Looks like you were right though Tommy. You can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink. :D

im so confused, I have an I5 and theres no stutter and yet everyone is reporting stuttering !

Be glad my friend! :)

Are you running the cpu overclocked?

I though I would snap up the 7990 while I had the chance, going to get a new cpu mobo and ram after xmas

May have to get a 1440p monitor as well :D

Welcome to the dark side. If bf4's your game i think you made an excellent choice. :D

yes at 4.5Ghz. Cpu usage is 100% on all cores though and GPU ( GTX690 ) is at 94% plus at 1600p on windows 8 and latest beta and BF4 runs of a SSD M4 and I have 16GB Ram.

I think the game runs lovely and its brilliant apart from the sound problem ( have to use headset to get sound ) as its to do with my home cinema amp setup and sound card. All over games have sound.

Good to hear. At that high res the cpu bottleneck will become less of a factor. If you were at 1080p i bet you'd notice it though.

This game is going to sell a ton of AMD GPUs and CPUs I think.

Yeah I'm not going to upgrade my cpu now but when star wars battlefront comes out in a year or two i will defiantly look at an AMD 8 Core CPU CPU and MB.

By that time who knows what kind of wonderful AMD / Nvidia card will be out !

One thing people are misunderstanding is that running out of vram will result in minimums of 1fps. This is while it waits for system ram to kick in. I have run out of VRAM on a 560Ti and on my 680's at 5760x1080 and trust me, you know when you have run out of VRAM, as it is like being at your nan's and her showing you photo's of people she can't remember :D

Well according to various tech sites, pcper and now sweclockers it can manifest itself in other ways as page file and dram is used to store textures. This results in a fps drop but not always down to single digits. It can also show itself as hitching or stuttering. The fact only the 690/770 exhibit this behaviour speaks for itself. The only difference is those cards have 2gb. None of the other cards tested show that behaviour. So that means its only one thing and im siding with the guys doing all the benchmarks and testing.

I am just going by what happened to me with BF3 in the first instance on a 560Ti 1GB and then with FarCry 3 with 2GB 680's. An immediate drop to 1 frame being shown for a few seconds and then jumping back up when the system ram was being used.

Regardless of how it is done, there will always be a time where it switches memory usage and frames will drop to 1 fps. Any program like fraps will pick this up and report it as so, so I am a bit confused on seeing >20fps as a minimum, as no chance that will happen when you run out of VRAM.

Me and Greg discussed this offline, anyway i believe hes now coming round to my way of thinking. 1080p was never an iussue. It was always above that as the benchmarks posted show.
