***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

I'll try explain what these frame time readings actually mean later, some of you are either getting confused or making it up as you go along as to what they actually mean and how to distinguish good readings from bad, it gos far far deeper then lower = better, as its not always the case.

That would be handy , I know for one i'd appreciate a little info on how to read them correctly

You can't tell if that is smooth by watching? I am not sure what else I can say really and will leave it at that.

So you didn't get me? :p am not saying that isn't smooth it looks fine to me, but the graph would tell me different. Like I said without the the feel I not going to tell if there is frame latency. The green line has spikes telling me frame times have increased resulting in latency/stutter.

Just did some searching and found this Mantle vid with Crossfire 290s and the lines look the same as mine?

Now that is an example of a spike free gpu rendering line. You will never recreate that during actual gameplay on DirectX. Doesn't matter what gpus you have in your rig, red or green.

EDIT

You do realise that is Shanks vid? :p

Consistency is the most important thing!

It is indeed, I'll post up some explanations later today/tomorrow of how to decypher the good from the bad.

Short example, vsync 60hz constant 60fps will give a constant ~16ms frame time giving that as an average, vsync off if I'm going 40-140fps all over the shop might give a significantly lower average frame time (some would see this as better) but the consistency of frames would be all over the shop, going anywhere from 6ms up to ~30ms.

All the averages flac show in the main window is basically another way of showing your average frame rate.

This is pretty much the point of gsync/freesync as it matches the frame time to the refresh rather then pushing too many/not enough frames at the required refresh frame time.

Haha, I didn't realise that was Shankly and that was the only vid I could find with the overlay running. As for standing out the battle, did you watch my first vid?

I did and saw many gpu spikes, plus you were on a roof in a TDM server. Not quite the same as Shankls 64 player CQ Large footage in amongst it on the ground. Show me a 64 Player CQ Large gameplay on Siege Greggles. That will be a true test of your gpu line lol. :p

Word. I've benched using Vsync and the render line is completely flat. Infact that is how i play the game. However for benching purposes it's tantamount to cheating lol.

Fair enough but don't be condescending please.

Yeah I did and yours has loads Spiking meaning the green line jumps up. If you play back mine you will see it dont spike up, it continues to run flat.

Eh? :p

Watch this back 1080p Greg and just keep looking at the green line.

A full 64player server on what I would say the most demanding map. I use the full map, include vehicles and on and off the ground.

Notice how they no spiking :D Team Death match isn't going to cut it my friend.

Perfection right there.

The worst thing is though you have your cpu/gpu at stock, you have slow memory and in all benchmark tests my stock scores are 30-40fps faster than you lol. It's a funny old world.

Not sure what is going down but I post a vid of my gameplay showing what I thought to be smooth and I am getting ripped to pieces.

Here is my original post:

Played a game earlier and for no reason other than to show my frames and smoothness, here is me playing BF4 :D

Just finished uploading, so will take a while for it to get full 1080P.

I am not in competition and was very pleased with ShdowPlay recording as well.

Calm down mate no one is ripping you to pieces, I thought we were just having a debate about frame variance. No one is trying to say your video is not smooth and your average fps look great. I was only trying to explain why the pcper FCAT results show spikes as i see the same thing as your video shows (Gpu spiking) when i use DX. That's not to say you're having a bad experience at all, which I've tried to make clear. I just played and benched a round on DX myself and my lines were identical to yours. Whilst it was not at Mantle level it was still perfectly playable and smooth.

But am not a Bench'er :D So I see no need for more than what am already getting :p

Furry muff. :)

Am just pointing out what we mean by stutter. You not noticing it because you dont no any better. If you tried Mantle I can 100% guarantee it will high light the DX stutter.

Its like never using a 120hz monitor, and then going back to 60hz before 60hz was fine but now after using 120hz you notice the difference.

Agreed!

Fair point i think and one reason why i don't want to get used to 120HZ now i have a 60HZ IPS Panel. :p
