***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

why windows 8
http://www.bf4blog.com/battlefield-4-on-windows-8-will-have-better-cpu-optimization/

I guess Mantle, BF4 and windows 8 might be a winner for Microsoft then ;)
I for one are looking forward Mantle to eventually go amd 8core set up.
that I am considering that, shows amd is doing things right for me as a gamer.

Awful blog post / link. It claims that BF4 will be more optimised on PC and XBO than PS4 because W8 / XBO fully support DX11.1 (and .2 already in the case of the latter) and PS4 doesn't.   Clearly whoever wrote that has absolutely no clue whatsoever.

Anyway, if you have an AMD GCN GPU you'll be using Mantle in future, which completely cuts out DX entirely, so Windows version won't matter.

lol gutted. I never do that any more! Never goes to plan

lol, well I wouldn't get the chance to play if I didnt. Still BF3 is still going strong.

Sorry guys, it will take a little while longer before the Open Beta is ready to "open". No pun intended :)

That's not right at all. Why would there not be variances in performance between operating systems purely because you're using a different API? You're still constrained by the OS even with Mantle talking closer to the GPU.

True I barely get an hour a night to myself in the evenings if that...I've no holiday left this year though :(

I will be looking forward to seeing how the i5 @ 4.6ghz will cope by adding a second 7950 as I am in the exact same boat as you. Thinking to add a second 7950 but im worried if my 3570k @ 4.5ghz will bottleneck. Don't forget to come back and let me know how it goes! :)

its unplayable (for me atleast) with a 3570k @ 4.5 w/ 2 7950's , opening the graph form the console you can see major cpu spikes and a huge cpu bottleneck , hitting 99/100 % cpu usage most the time .

Single card works fine though :D

i cant download!
all matts fault :(

For those waiting patiently-

In conquest the map is ruined due to being a snipers paradise, especially if you go anywhere near the middle of the map after the building comes down.

Domination is frantic though and the sniping isn't so much a problem, pure carnage and bedlam.

Mantle is going to boost CPU and GPU performance Kaap. Something about 9x less draw calls frees up the cpu.

Up to 9x more draw calls on the gpu per cpu instruction, last gen consoles had ~10x more draw calls per gpu cycle iirc.

If AMD deliver and mantle can acheive it's goal by removing the DX limitation, then AMD will open a can of whip ass on Nvidia on mantle enabled titles.

I'm very curious to see how it's going to work though as the beta is really pushing my hardware as it is, never before have I seen this much utilisation across the cores/threads/gpus.

I'm a bit of a noob so if possible could somebody explain why this is happening or what it means.

I just did a quick benchmark with fraps and got an average of 66fps not dropping below 45.

However, when I go on afterburner to see what my temps and gpu usage was like, the usage fluctuated between 99% and 75%.
But playing on BF3 it stays pretty constant 95-99 at least.

So why is my gpu not staying in the high 90s and could this be the reason for my drop to 45 fps?

Just like BF3 then? most of the open air maps on BF3 are no go because of Air rape and snipers.

Don't get me wrong i enjoy sniping, from inside the building opersit flag A on Metro ecte... but i find it very boring sitting around the edes of air maps looking down the scope.

I much prefer things up close and personal.
