***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

Because right now - the Beta opens up to me this evening and I'd rather be playing it than faffing about installing Windows 8 lol. I doubt I'll have enough of a performance issue with W7 to worry about it for now.

Plus a fresh install of 8.1 is probably more advisable.

That's what im going to do i think. First i need to see what happens with the 8.1 update. I will install it to see how it done. Then i'll likely reformat and start a fresh in anticipation for BF4 launch.

And that is bad how? Less overclock, more performance? Sounds good to me. You can always just add more voltage if the extra fps means previous overclocks aren't stable. That's the wrong way to look at it imo, a very negative outlook. The performance remains to be seen but i don't believe AMD would bother with a two year project unless its going to provide a advantage of more than a few percent.

I did not say it was bad, I said it could mean other things will change.

It is a bit like how someone described a motorway to me.

"It is the fastest way between two traffic jams"

The talk of the I5 being undermuscled is totally overstated (ivy and haswell). I'm running the game on custom ultra 4xmsa with a [email protected] 1920x1200 maxed out CPU usage is 85%. (Spikes to 100% when you hit windows button) I use a single 7950 1200mhZ 1600Mhz mem. Min frames hit 40 Average 55 max 80....

GPU is 95-99% used
cpu is 85%

This game uses approx 10% more cpu resource than BF3. I get occasionall lag when Charlie comes down and generates a load of atmospheric dust, particles and litter. My advice is wait for

a) The game to be releashed before drawing conclusions
b) Be very sceptical about i5 being inferior to i7 untill we get proper scientific bench marks. Recall that historically that an i7 gives about 1 fps at clock speeds about 4.3-4.5Ghz.

My Bro has a cross fired 3930k six core cpu and the game uses all 6 cores at 60-70% with 2x7950's. Now if he uses HT with 12 threads or 6 physical cores only guess what...........FA difference maybe more heat!!! Go Figure.... (HT seems to perform better when the cpu isnt maxed out and has headroom to multitask)

Wait before you do anything is certainly my advice, especiallly when the game code, drivers are littered with bugs and faults ala its a beta beta...........

Anyway I'm getting another 7950 today and want to see this cpu bottleneck when running 2x7950's on an i5 at 4.6Ghz.

What performance can Mantle bring to us?

Cant u just install the Preview on a different drive and test it out?

Download from Microsoft here http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/preview-iso

What would be the point? I've used Windows 8 before, there's no real reason for me to not upgrade at some point. I only use the machine for gaming anyway :)

Does go to show how they're scraping the barrel with it though. If refusing to support DirectX on older systems is their only playing card Mantle should soon fix that.

Same here! Not planning to move to Win 8.1 yet, but we'll see. Hardware upgrades come firsts.

What performance can Mantle bring to us?

ballpark, 20-60% or so.
10% amd wouldnt have done it IMO.
20% is ok but likely, 30% is my estimate.
it can also be totally wild as we can look at console and say, well the developers there can do a lot with less.
so Mantle will become better as the engine and GCN are worked on over time.

Still no Beta in Origin :(

Open Beta (October 4th):
The Battlefield team is hard at work getting the Open Beta live.

The beta will be rolling out worldwide over the course of the day, and won't necessarily be made available at the same time across platforms. Be sure to keep checking back here for the latest updates.

You can always check to see if you have access to the game by logging out and logging back in to your Origin client.
