***THE BF4 BENCHMARKS THREAD***

I picked an empty server to have a look around. Performance was fine (670 SLI, 4770K), but nothing was happening so it's not a big surprise. It knocked out my higher overclock though even so which has been fine with other games.

I had the same issues Teppic,

Crysis 3, Metro last light etc were all fine running @4.7 but BF4 caused me to have infrequent Red screen crashes.

I seem to have fixed this by dropping my cache ratios down from 45 to 44.
Maybe it'll help you.

I have just fired this up.

Running this on an i5 2500k at 4.3ghz and two GTX 670's. Runs perfectly smooth at full ultra 1080p with 4xMSAA. I jumped straight into a full 64 player server and i am not getting any of these lag spikes that others are talking about.

HOWEVER, it is definitely i7 time sometime soon. My GPU usage never gets above 85% and looking at the MSI afterburner graph GPU usage fluctuates between 65-85 throughout the game on both cards. In task manager, it shows my i5 is maxed out 100% on all 4 cores :0. Gets nice and toasty at ~60 degrees as well. This game is super stressful CPU wise and clearly needs an 8 thread/8 core CPU to not bottleneck two cards.

Framerates hardly ever dipped below 60fps though which was nice and that was even in firefights/lots of players moving about in front of me. Less CPU intensive parts saw framerates in the 100's so I think with an i7 and my GPU usage maxed out framerates would easily average above 80. Thing is though as it stay above 60 everything is perfectly smooth and due to the GPU usage my graphics cards stay nice, and cool ( even if my cpu doesn't). This means i'm not in a huge rush to go and buy an i7 just yet.

Big thing is though, I am on Windows 8....

Increase the clock speed to 4.6Ghz and see if that helps eliminate the bottleneck.

My Bro has a 3930k and it only uses 50-60% of the gpu's in cross fire. Something is wrong with the work share between cpu and gpu. Because he can also hit 90% utilisation on a hex core intel.

Also some people saying they are using 65% cpu utilisation with an i7 with 2x gpu's in BF4 maxed out in ultra, and then say an i5 cant cope, well since when is any i7 35% faster than an i5 clock for clock!!!

That's not right at all. Why would there not be variances in performance between operating systems purely because you're using a different API? You're still constrained by the OS even with Mantle talking closer to the GPU.

True I barely get an hour a night to myself in the evenings if that...I've no holiday left this year though :(

Because what was being discussed was W8 having a performance advantage due to newer / properly supported DX version. So this is completely irrelevant on Mantle. Also, I'm not sure how deep Mantle goes and how wide but it's very possible it may bypass the Windows CPU scheduler entirely in games (at least for AMD CPUs), which would be a gigantic win for AMD (given how bad even the updated scheduler is on W8 and patched on W7 for Bulldozer architecture chips) ... and here again it would render W8 'improvements' moot on Mantle.

Ok had a couple of hours on BF4 Beta now and heres a quick 21 minute run with everything maxed.. thats Custom Ultra with 4xMSAA @ 1080p on latest AMD Beta drivers.

7950 @ 1100/1600
2700K @ 4.5GHz

Edit.. Oh, Windows 7 :p

I did some runs earlier for an hour or so but then noticed i had vsync on lol

I've not seen the building come down yet but this run was after it came down so theres smoke and crap all over.. and it was a 64 player server. (and yes i had some stutter but it wasnt that bad,i put it down to the game not fully optimized yet,its a Beta after all)

Frames, Time (ms), Min, Max, Avg
15629, 292851, 34, 93, 53.368

Really happy with this as its a Beta so things can only get better and i'll play with 2xMSAA anyway.. which i havnt tested yet so will do that later tonight :)

Fair enough! I read it differently :)

It wouldnt matter how high the i5 is clocked tbh. Im seeing 65% cpu utilisation and upto 99% gpu utilisation, (same as bf3). Which is the ideal situation you want, if i disable ht the cpu use skyrockets up and gpu usage drops. This like bf3 prefers extra cores/threads over an i5 especially with sli/xfire.

My 7950 is only running at 70% GPU power and basically the game runs crap for me? It a new windows 7 installation (24 hrs ago) and I'm using the new beta drivers, so no idea what is up? I would guess its only about 40 fps ? Anyone got any advice? It also crashes every 20 minutes?
