The cinema...WTF !!!

The main question is.... what are you doing eating in a cinema?

Always take a chocolate bar and a drink. Problem?

Same as would in the house :)

lol @ the laser pointer incident... Why didn't you look to see who was shining it, and shout at them? I've told kids to STFU before when they're clearly annoying everyone (but no one says anything).

I used to go to the Cinema nearly every week with a group of mates when i was 12-15, a tenner from mum used to buy me a ticket and 2 bottles of drink (BOGOF) and a big cup of pic'n'mix from Woolworths across the road :(

Late last year me and my family (3 adults, 1 child) were going to go and see Avatar after a meal, we worked out it would be nearly 50 quid without any food or drinks and walked out............

I know I shouldn't, but I couldn't help but laugh at that incident. Not so much at the actions of the "pratt", but by your reaction to the laser pen.

I can imagine in a horror flick, most people are going "oooh" and "aaah", at every moment of horror. You, on the hand, had reached a point where you weren't paying any attention to what was going on in the film, but more on the laser pointer. In effect, you had wasted your time and money to come and watch a red dot being shone on a projector screen.

:D

Yep it definately was a waste of time, not money though got a refund :p

This has now got me realising why piracy is so rife if they charge such horrendous prices for a film that wasn't even that good.

This isn't the issue for me. If the film is crap then tough, I should have waited to get more opinions.

The issue I have is with the rest of the noisy morons who can't keep their ******* mouths shut. You've paid so much to get in, why don't you just shut up and watch the film? If that's too difficult, please find the nearest stairwell, tie a rope round your neck, attach other end to banister and jump...

Aside from the other people, I find that upkeep on a lot of cinemas has gone downhill or they are just getting tired. Seating is torn, the screens often seem broken. I have to laugh when I leave the cinema knowing that I could have seen a better quality picture from a pirate movie...

Pricing is up but everything costs more these days, people pay so they can get away with it. Have to laugh when they ask you to "recycle" glasses that you've had to pay for though... Just no.

When it all goes right, the cinema is great. However, since it seems that 1 in 10 people would have been better off as a miscarriage, it rarely does go right.

I await the day when we can (legally) get the latest films directly to our homes, and can completely bypass cinemas forever. :)

While doubtless this will happen, tbh ill allways be in the film club, cinemas won't die out anytime soon.

The cinema for many, sell included, the social experience of a night out at the cinema with others, be it with family, friends, or just a random group creates a warm resonance that a mouse click sitting at home just can't replicate.

Unlimited Cineworld card - £13.50 a month, add on top £1.50 for one 3d film in that month, see 5 films... works out at £3 a film.

only good assuming they have that many films worth watching ( which is slim to none ) or you have the worst taste in films and no paint to throw up on a wall lol

I used to think the same. Worked in one a while back and would pretty much spend most of my time at the place, would watch most films, even if they were grim.
I'm not sure if people have changed now or if I'm just noticing it more but... The majority of films I see now are ruined by other people talking, it's just distracting and takes away from the overall atmosphere.

There's also the people who are unable to go without texting during films...
Rounding this lot up into a camp and gassing them would be the way forward.

Take your own food in.

We've never been challenged for doing it. If we were I'd complain to the manager. If they didn't care, I'd complain to the press.

Cinemas don't need any more bad publicity.

I paid a big amount to go see Dark Knight at Imax, and I'm glad I did.

We took little un to see Toy Story 3 at cinema in 3D and he loved it.

We don't go unless it is a special screening or occasion, it is prohibitively expensive to be a regular cinemagoer.

If 'normal' (ie, adult on a usual day not a 2 4 1 day or whathaveyer) tickets don't go down in price I'll never be a regular visitor to the cinema. On Orange Wednesdays it's full of noisy students and filthy ****** so I don't want to be there.

Tell me about it!

Never go on a Wednesday because of the sheer amount of people who turn up! You can't move for people in the foyer and it's generally really noisy!

It's worth it if you get a membership of some kind, like £15 to go as often as you like, but that basically means you have to be seeing at least 3 films a month to make it worthwhile, so you're going to end up seeing some rubbish. I prefer to spend that money on Lovefilm and watch older films at home, unless there's something special - we saw Inception at the cinema, I saw Avatar in 3D, I saw Back To The Future, and I'll probably see the new Harry Potter... Everything else can wait for the small screen.

Never mind Wednesdays... most days the cinema is full of scummy, noisy teenagers on their mobile phones, shouting at each other.

I used to go to the cinema a fair amount, however I had a run of really crap films on the trot and just got fed up.. I did not go to the cinema for 4 years, went a few months ago to see a film, it cost a bomb and was also a crap film... I will not go again

I'll wait until the films come on AV or I'll borrow the DVD from someone from now on.

I always wait till a film has been out a few weeks before going to see it. Im in no rush, theres lots of other things to be doing. That way you can pretty much guaruntee that there wont be many people in there and I dont have to be sat next to the giant cheese smelling noisy mouth breather. Although I do find that no matter how busy the film is, people always seem to gravitate around me and the mrs without fail then giggle, chat and crunch the noisiest food they can find.

My best experiences were of Drag me to Hell and District 9 which were close to the end of their cinema run when we went so there was only around 5 people in the room, all quiet, all with quiet food i.e. jellys etc, was exactly what it should be.

I agree completely that the experience does tend to be ruined by idiots talking, using their phones and doing generally anything other than watch the film.

When a film is leaked early in good quality I can easily see why people would make the choice to pirate it and watch it in the comfort of their own home instead.

They are just too expensive. Regardless of what costs that they have, the fact is when I go to the cinema, the seats are about 10-30% full. People don't go because it costs too much. If it was cheaper then more people would go and they would make more money anyway. Most of the people here are quoting a single adult ticket but you have to think of a family that would buy 2x adult and 3x childrens tickets. It would cost a lot of money.

If you don't like the prices, don't go. No one is making you. If people stop going in droves the prices will come down (of course they'll go up first...).

That's already happening.

My only other small moan about the cinema is the times. A film either starts at about 17:30-18:00 or about 20:30-21:00. I don't want to watch a film at 17:30. I don't really want to go at 21:00 because that's the whole evening gone then. Would like to go at about 19:00 then be able to talk/drink after and make the film part of an evening.

I just saw this and made me LoL :D

Play all my DVDs either on my PC or on my PS2. The piracy screens are skippable on the PC I'm sure, not sure about the PS2.

Even so people, we're talking about a minute's worth of screens that require no interaction and will happily play to an empty room while you're chatting/ making a drink.

Why is this such a big deal? The film is 60 mins+ and a 1 minute anti-piracy warning is somehow ruining your experience?

its not just a 1minute piracy experience a lot of films have 5minutes of trailers sometimes more and you cant even skip them sometimes... only fast forward
put them in the bloody extras section on the disc....
cinemas even have 10+ minutes of adverts....
piract warnings make no sense because pirates dont see them anyway
