The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

Wow.

Just finished reading the PC Gamer UK review. Well worth the read.

If you're looking for an RPG set in an atmospheric, post-apocalyptic wasteland with enough depth and content to keep you entertained for weeks, even months (playing on average 2 to 3 hours a day – hey, I work for a living :p) … this is it.

I wish I could post some quotes from the review as I know some of it will make you

Edit: Well ok, maybe just a little:

IT'S: Gory, Dark, Worthy of the name
IT'S NOT: Oblivion with guns, For kids, To be played in a hurry

You all know the score by now... surely! But for those who may not, it was rewarded 90%

Unfortunately they also scored Mount and Blade the same as Euro Truck Simulator which both got higher scores tha X3 Terran Conflict.

Magazine reviews are worthless when you use them as evidence as to how good games are.

It seems to me that PC mags just give every sequel/hypefest 90%....they appear rather useless to me. Best to read actual gamer's reviews.

Admittedly Mount&Blade has a lot of flaws but as a concept and simulation it's one of the all-time greats.

Sorry if I sounded like I was quoting gospel truth  I know magazine reviews shouldn’t be taken as an absolute indication of a game's greatness. However, to say that magazine reviews are completely "worthless" is, in my opinion, rubbish. At the very least they serve as a positive or negative indication as to what can be expected.

Besides, I just thought you lot would appreciate a little optimism regarding this games potential greatness :p

Just as well I didn't write that then

oh and they gave Farcry 2 94% - you only have to look at the last page or two of posts in the Farcry 2 thread here to show how worthless that review was :)

Anyone cancelled there order and got it off steam, like i have. I expect the people who got the LE or CE versions wont, as they want all there cool stuff.

I just thought of something, will i be able to dl mods for the steam version when they make them?

Also worth a mention on steam they got 5 videos to watch. There old vids now but they show how the game is played and some very cool weapons. Also i didnt realise this game can get a bit gory, with heads being punched off :)

I cant wait just ordered the CE! I never been so hyped up for a game since Half Life 2!

Me lubs fallout and it makes my boxers wet!

I'll be honest, I'm still not a massive fan of this, but it does look interesting. The problems of lack of voice actors, odd NPC ai in settlements, and the conversation issues seem to have been addressed from Oblivion, which is very good.

I'm warming to the VATs system slowly, and the atmosphere/story seems to be brilliant. I'm guessing this has a day/night cycle in place?

I don't like the look of that VATS system, ill probably not use that and just play it as a 1st person. :)

pc gamer seemed to like it (although I'm taking thier reivews with a pillar of salt after the spore review, which actually scored higher than FO3).

Plus in real time, youve got your inacuraccy + your characters inacuracy, vats only the characters.

They better have made it good, or ther will be retribution

If it's good then I shall wub them for ever and ever.

Your player stats affect real-time and VATS combat.

The only review that should be taken into consideration has to be Yahtzee's, hits the nail on the head every time, holds nothing back and tells you exactly what is wrong with the game.

I do enjoy his reviews :) But at the end of the day it’s just another personal opinion. I know that reviews should be taken with a pinch of salt, just look at FarCry 2… excellent review by PC Gamer yet the game itself is highly criticised on these very forums. Guess the only way to find out for sure is to play them both for myself, eventually :)
