The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

Why not just order a boxed copy. Its cheaper, and theres no risk of mods not working. Judging by previous bethesda games, they rarely let modders down. This game will be brought alive by mods im sure.

True, I was letting the immediate gratification get in the way of sense. I shall make the short walk into town Friday morning :D

pc gamer seemed to like it (although I'm taking thier reivews with a pillar of salt after the spore review, which actually scored higher than FO3)

PcGamer is so full of crap, how they could ever give Far Cry a score like that and rate the Witcher bad has made me cancel my subscription.

Normally you'd give a mag the benefit of the doubt over a review or two, but it's becoming so common with PC Gamer that I'm really starting to wonder about the honesty of their reviews. Seems like all the big, hyped releases with loads of cash behind them get glowing reviews regardless of the state they're in.

I was under the impression that it had become pretty common knowledge that game producers are beginning to bribe review websites and publications. Every time a game scores above 90% these days i ignore the review and see what real people say. I assume all of you know of the Kane + Lynch gamespot incident?

Spore, Farcry 2 and GTAIV have all received rave reviews in the past few months but have proven to receive a far less warm welcome from the public.

Hi guys,

Was gonna go for the 360 version originally, but my console needs to go off for repair (red ring of death, *sigh*), so I've decided that I'm going to go for the PC version now.

My main problem is that I don't currently have space in the house to 'game' on the PC, so it's currently being used as a media center.

Is there any word on how the game plays with a 360 pad? Is there still a degree of menu navigation etc that requires use of the keyboard and mouse? Or will the controls be identical to the 360 version through the whole of the game/menus etc? I'll have a keyboard and mouse plugged in, but I'm hoping to play from the comfort of the sofa exclusively with the pad if possible.

Also, how do you think the game will play on my system? I have a 2.4ghz Core2Duo, 2GB RAM, Geforce 8800GTS (320mb version). I'd hope to play the game in 1080p (1920x1080) but I realise my GPU might not cope too well with that. What do you guys think?

I bascially have the same rig as you and want to know how well it will run before purchasing it. Unfortunatley no demo's released to "try before you buy" so that is off the cards.....or is it ;)

I have done a test online and everything passed with flying colours except the Minimum spec card is 256mb but the recommended is 512mb.

Being on the 8800 GTS 320 I assume it will run but at what cost to the experience/quality of the game?

Any ideas anyone?

Coulda had it pre-ordered on steam and be playing it right now though :)

I didn't realise it wasn't in the shops until Friday!

You're absolutely right, i thought that it was fine the first times, but their Spore review was also terrible, because it's a good game for a (stupid and alternative) crowd does not make it a good game. That's like saying the Pokemon movie was fantastic because it had a broad appeal.

Unfortunately the best danish PC games magazine does exactly the same thing now, i have just cancelled my subscription after 8 years with only a few minor pauses, really disappointed.

Don't forget all the rave reviews FC2 got before it was released. Don't overhype this game too!

Exactly, i'll make up my own mind :) As much as i loved Oblivion, and i loved Morrowind before it, that was extremely overhyped too - it's like "big world" gives an instant 80% these days and everything else equals free bonus points.

But does anyone actually have a copy of the game yet?

What system are you running? Does the game run any good?

I am interested to know because I wanted to try it but due to a lack of demoage I apparently have to pay £30 to see if my computer can run it so that it is worth playing.

Spose I'll have to wait until Friday when a friend will lend me his copy so I can test it out.

Dammit my CE of this game gonna take ages..
