The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

To get the rifle, you need to finish the Replicated Man quest by confronting Harkness with proof that he's an android, and then promising to keep his secret safe. If you elected to finish this quest by telling Zimmer that Harkness is the android, then Zimmer will give you the Wired Reflexes perk, and will then leave Rivet City with a reprogrammed Harkness in tow. (I think Harkness disappears from the game at this point. Is this what you did?)

The best approach is to tell Harkness he's an android, promise to keep his secret (receiving A3-21's Plasma Rifle) and then run straight over to the Science Lab and tell Zimmer that Harkness is the missing android (receiving the Wired Reflexes perk as well). The karma loss from selling Harkness out is cancelled out by the karma gained from telling him you'll keep his secret, so there's no negative consequence to doing this.

damn damn damn damn.. lol.. Isn't it a great game. I finished the mission by going straight to Zimmer - I didn't even consider telling Harkness he was an android. So I guess I have lost that unique weapon.

OR...

You could tell Harkness he's an android and promise to take care of Zimmer- receive nifty plasma rifle

then tell Zimmer about Harkness - receive nifty perk

then shoot Zimmer and his chum in the face before they make off with harkness - feel good about yourself

Harkness thanks you everyones happy, except Zimmer:D

LMAO.. Very nice. :D It's very open ended. Either way I've not got this uber plasma rifle. Is there any other way I can get it (apart from cheating!)
Hmm actually thinking about it, I haven't seen Zimmer disappear with Harkness so I wonder if I've yet to trigger that aspect of the game.

After running through the game twice, once evil and once good, I had a third go through with the intention of making the uberest character possible (maxed stats, skills, and max possible damage output / damage resistance / accuracy from perks). This turned into basically the most completist run possible, the proceeds of which are posted here as a kind of catharsis in the hope that I can finally stop playing the game now (at least until the DLC comes out).

S.P.E.C.I.A.L. attributes. I'm pretty sure this is the highest they can be got with all ranks of Intense Training and stat-boosting gear. Before anyone points it out, I know they're basically just cosmetic now unlike in F1/2. I just liked the idea of getting them as high as possible.

Skills - with Comprehension and Educated, everything was 100 by the end of the game, except the two skills I literally never ever used (Explosives and Unarmed).

Perks (mspaint lol). Every quest perk possible has been got (with the exception of Dream Crusher as it's mutually exclusive with Survival Guru). Where there were multiple possible benefits from a perk the combat-enhancing ones have been taken each time, so +3% crit from Moira and +5 DR from Harold. I've got (I think) every possible +damage output/resistance/accuracy level-up perk for projectile weapons (except Toughness which my End didn't allow for).

Bobbleheads!

The house, decked out in Science theme with all purchasable mod cons.

Mmmm, Nuka-Cola (lol).

The Locker of Win™, containing every unique weapon in the game, all legitimately found, including those that are supposedly mutually exclusive (Ant's Sting, Protectron's Gaze), those which you aren't supposed to be able to get (the awesome Colonel Autumn's Laser Pistol), and two of Eugene just for good measure. I also set myself the task of repairing them all to 100%, which was pretty difficult in some cases, and required some trickery with the Alien Blaster. (n.b. Colonel Autumn's Laser Pistol is actually in my inventory - for some reason it gets treated as a quest item, so you can't stash it).

Bunch of unique armors. In the fridge, naturally.

Closing thoughts after what I fervently hope will be my last playthrough: after putting about 50 more hours into this game, it's gone up in my estimation from 'easily game of the year' to 'best game in recent memory'. It's baffling that after three complete runs through the game, having got the Explorer perk and looking at the world map, there are still a bunch of locations that I haven't visited even once. Also, despite trying out a bunch of different builds, everything is exceptionally well balanced, with a lot of different approaches viable and no one skill or perk being a gamebreaker.

The only thing that's a bit off kilter, that I found, is the awesome power of A3-21's Plasma Rifle coupled with how easy it is to get. There's nothing to stop a knowledgeable player from stepping out of the vault, picking up the Replicated Man quest in Megaton, then pretty much going straight to Rivet City, dodging a couple of Mirelurks and having Harkness hand you (imo) the best weapon in the game. The fact that you can also obtain the Wired Reflexes perk (+10% to hit in VATS) at the same time just makes it more overpowered, and if you tailor your early build around obtaining this gun (Energy Weapons / Sneak) then as soon as you get it, you will sail through the rest of the game killing almost everything in one shot. Still, I guess it's no more critical than the Power Armor in F1, and it says a lot that that's the only criticism I can think of.

Upload your save, perhaps? :p

Would love to roam the Wasteland with those weapons. :D

Guys - just a quick one:

I want to backup all (100+ ) of my saves; do I just copy everything from my games > fallout 3

I'm using vista. Cheers ;)

OK, the save is here: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=1H4R8R0Z. Bonus points for anyone who can identify which nuclear war themed novel the character's name is from.

Few things:

- You may or may not need a mod to raise the level cap to play the save as the character is level 29. I disabled my mods and the save seemed to load OK, so maybe an unmodded game will only take issue with the save if you try to level the character to 30. Or maybe not. I dunno.

- The locker next to the front door is the one with the unique weapons in it, the one opposite has a huge stash of spare parts if you need to repair the uniques at any point, as well as a hoard of consumables (Nuka-Cola Quantum, Yao Guai Meat, Stealth Boys etc).

- If you aren't interested in having maxed attributes and want to be a bit more survivable, probably best to get a different set of armor out of the fridge (the character is wearing Vance's Longcoat Outfit, Three Dog's Head Wrap and the Lucky Shades at the moment just to pimp out the S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats).

No, looking at the world map there's still a reasonable amount of stuff I haven't explored (maybe 25% of all locations, perhaps a bit less), so there's still uncharted territory to go killing in.

http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Operation:_Anchorage

So Op: Anchorage arrives tomorrow and is distributed by Live for 800msp.

The description in the link above makes it sound like the bog standard Obiobiobin content that did the rounds and was pretty much dull and plain. I can't see this being any good at all and I'm getting major deja vu moments here. 800 msp reinforces my prediction.

I was hoping it would be like the superb Oibioibobin Shivering Isles expansion, which was a full blown expansion well worth the money I bought it for on the 360 marketplace. Think it was about £20 or so but rather large. Anchorage seems like a bog standard jaunt on the construction kit, that rewards you with typical toys at the end :/

I've got to say that the only expansion I intend to look at seriously is the third one. Level increases and new quests would make the game playable again. The first two just seem to be 'simulations' i.e. a game within the game.

I've just ordered this game, purely on the basis that it's apparently like oblivion but in the future. Anyone agree with that?

Oblivion was huge, non-linear and generally awesome. I'm hoping this is the same!

I agree, if you like Oblivion you'll like this too. There are some key differences though in how you develop your character, but they're not bad, just different. My only real bitch about the game is that the graphics aren't a step above oblivion... I thought Bethesda would have moved on, kind of like the step from morrowind to Oblivion... I was disappointed because I built it up in my head - even bought a new GPU in anticipation...
