The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

I quite liked Oblivion, and played it through a few times. Didn't rate FO3 much and it won't get played again. As for using GFWL to release the "expansions"? Good way to reduce your sales.

GFWL feels like a punishment for PC users as you get the xbox styled front end thrown at you and if there isn't a different way to buy points I'm 3 lost sales even though I should be 3 definant sales.

Is the opposite true that if you enjoy FO3 you will enjoy oblivion?

I wouldn't say that was as true. If you don't like fantasy games then it is fairly unlikely that you will like Oblivion even if you love Fallout 3. It's well worth trying though, especially as it should be quite cheap by now.

Guys - I seem to have stopped getting experience points for my achievements?

I've got to level 20 and I'm on the last mission proper; just going round doing all the side-quests atm ;)

Is this normal? There seemed to be loads or upgrades/perks etc still remaining, the last time I was upgraded

SW.

Level 20 is the maximum. You are not meant to be able to get all perks, if you could there would be little replay value, this way it makes each character you make unique. You can use mods to increase the level caps but they are buggy, and one of the DLC packs for the game that is in development will increase the level cap anyway.

I've just ordered this game, purely on the basis that it's apparently like oblivion but in the future. Anyone agree with that?

Oblivion was huge, non-linear and generally awesome. I'm hoping this is the same!

I've lost hours of my life playing this since the above post. This game is awesome, it is addictive and as non-linear as oblivion.

I've hardly touched the main quest, level 11 I think, just roaming haven't touched a quarter of the map yet. This game is HUGE.

Yep its an epic amazing game on the PC. I completed it twice then the DLC and found there is approx 161 map locations but on top of this loads of other locations which do not even register on the map. On my first playthrough doing the story missions I only found about 25% of all the locations in the game. Its vast and some of the underground locations have several levels. After completeting it once try and follow an online guide to get all the Achievements as this will enable you to discover around 75% of the game then for the other 25% you need to explore fully for the more obscure locations. Definately GOTY for me and an alltime top ten classic PC game. Shame they have delayed the next DLC until March now and April is still the final DLC which raises level caps to 30.

After many months of procrastination I've finally got round to playing The Witcher, which I've just got into after about 4 hours of trying. Fallout 3 is my next target but in spite of all my reading I'm still undecided if I'm going to fall into the same trap I did when I bought Morrowind thinking I'd love it (I didn't) and then Oblivion thinking I'd love it (I didn't). Still it's not too expensive so I'll probably take the plunge.

Apologies for not reading back over the previous pages, but what's this 'DLC'? Is it an official expansion pack or something?

I played Fallout 3 and completed the main storyline within about a week- Casual playing. After that, i cant be bothered to go back to it! i was kinda hoping the apocolypse would be over and the green fields and meadows would turn up for me to explore. instead its just endless and monotinous grey and the same repetitive baddies.

If you had explored a bit you might have found the green bit up north :p

Just completed this today at level 17, pretty epic game. Playtime for me was just under 30hrs, but to be honest I only really got stuck into the main story during the final 10hrs of playtime (when I got to Rivet City). One thing I found is that the game leads you down an accelerated path towards the end, with fewer (obvious) sidemissions to distract you. I suddenly realised that I'd reached pretty much the end of the game which was a little disappointing as I was expecting to get sent off to more locations up north or something. Might have to reload my save and go adventuring.

Interestingly I found ammo rather scarce during the first half of the game, then once I got a few extra weapons it was no problem at all and by the end I had stacks of stockpiled gear. Once you start fighting the enclave you get loads of energy weapons etc

Lockpicking took me ages to get the hang of, at first I was failing very easy ones all over the place. I didn't realise all you need to do was roll it either left or right, I thought you had to use all the directions!

Overall a very good game with a definite nod in the direction of Deus Ex, both in terms of the gameplay mechanics and the endgame choices. In fact I would say that this is arguably the true spiritual successor to Deus Ex. The scale is truly impressive and there's quite a wide tree of dialogue branches to go down with some characters.

Is the DLC worth getting? Bearing in mind I suspect there's dozens of quests I've not found yet in the main game.

Might have to give Oblivion another go I suppose, I found I couldn't really get into it

I played it back in Nov and was very disappointed by the main mission when compared with Oblivion. But i got hold of the add-on packs & never looked back. a lot of the site missions are really funny (talking tree anyone?).

DONT get the addon packs untill you reach lv20 but its kind of weird because once i reached lv30 you stop playing.

Where are the saves for fallout 3 stored by default? I need to backup everything for a re-build ;)

Will all my levelling info be saved too?
