The Countdown Has Begun...... Fallout 3

Does anyone know if there is a mod (in development) to get better textures in the distance, something like a Distance LOD mod like with Oblivion?

It seems to do it when i have anti aliasing on, i have a 8800 gtx, with the 177.79 drivers installed.

Anyone

Try a clean sweep of the drivers then install the latest available. Try different settings and see what causes the textures to go funky.

Thats the thing, the textures arent going "funky" they just seems to have this strange dot matrix look to them, as if there made of tiny dots, when aa is on, see...

Click too see the problem bigger...

Sorry about the size, but you can see, the texture to the left has the effect, but the one to the right does not...

Edit again, there we go, a bit clearer

It all looks fine in that pic apart from the very very close twigs that are obviously thin. Need some serious AA to make that look smooth when that close.

Try replacing your fallout.ini in the "my games" folder with the fallout_default.ini in the game folder. Rename it, obviously. I solved my sniper zoom problem by doing that.

Worth a try before installing new drivers.

Maybe you have FSAA enable ingame and via the control panel, try it with just ingame FSAA set.
Maybe you have transparancy supersampling enabled that gives the strange AA effect?

do the trees look ok from mid distance though? I had something very similiar when i first started fallout 3....but for the love of god I have forgotten what I did to stop it.

I am now friends with the Yao Guai :) Pretty cool I can just walk upto them now, and one came bounding in and killed a couple of mercs for me. But then he started attacking a trader and the trader killed him :(

This thread is big, is there an all in one config file to tweak the graphical settings for optimal yumminess?

slight off topic if I'm allowed.... does anyone know of a good post apocalyptic book / series in the vein of FO3?

Am having great fun so far, just found the Yao Guai cave on the way to robocorp. Playing the good protector role at the moment but have an evil alter ego planned for later.

edit... found a few possibilities;
Swan Song by Robert R. Mc Cammon
Outlanders series by James Axler (and related Deathlands series)

but still after recommendations please

A vote here for my personal fave the deathlands series. Loved that series, theres tons of books all about exploration in a nuclear wasteland, barons, mutants etc.

Not that I know, but the game runs fine on Ultra settings so I guess what is needed are mods that enhance the graphics like the previous mentioned distance LOD that makes objects in the distance sharper.

I did very little tweaking, I set the preset to Ultra and FSAA to enhance 8xCSAA and that's it, it runs at ~40fps minimum and indoors is well over 60fps

But maybe you can change things in the ini files to get 'better than Ultra' graphics but I don't think the option is available

Oh the game runs fine, but with Oblivion and Crysis, the ini/cfgs could be tweaked to look even better, with minimal if any hit on frame rates :)

got this on friday., and after assembling a hell of a lot of flat packed stuff which was my new desk, settig up my pc again.. i started to finally play :D runs lovely and smooth on high settings...

how are people finding this? seems pretty cool so far, love the feel of the game...

just one thing, is it me or does anybody else seem to run out of ammo really quickly.. that or not have any ammo at all? lol bring out the baseball bat! lol
