The Crew

Still haven't heard from The Crew, or Nvidia/Nvidia UK about the latest drivers, can't start the game.. infuriating.

Edit: OK checked Nvidia reddit.. apparently THIS driver fixes that, will test.

Yep, all working!

Think I'll give it a run later in the evening. I got it as a bargain about two months ago but couldn't get into it due to some nasty stuttering and the sheer size of it. Played about 15 mins and haven't launched it ever since.

Is this worth £7 ? I played the beta/demo and wasn't really impressed but I'm looking for a decent arcade racer with a grind that's not boring, cheers

Yeah make sure to set graphics settings that will make the game run at 60, it plays much better that way.

I paid £15 for it. I liked it so much that I later bought both season pass and Wild Run expansion. For me it is the best arcade racing game ever made. Huge beautiful detailed world, cockpit view for every car, tons of cars of all kinds of classes from supercars to monstertrucks, actual singleplayer storyline with cutscenes and stuff (B movie vibe, but decent), great soundtrack and radios, and seamless multiplayer. I even bought a wheel for it (Thrustmaster T150 which is supported perfectly). And then that was not enough, so I actually decided to finally get my drivers license in real life. Because this game inspired me.

Note that I am not saying it is perfect. It has its share of flaws and things I wish Ivory would improve, like better tree LoD, better working mirrors, even more realistic physics, etc

But the fact remains, no other game on the market offers the kind of experience Crew offers. I hope, hope Forza Horizon 3 will be a good competition. I love open world driving games where I can just cruise and explore.

Here are tons of videos I recorded from my playing:

Took a lot of screenshots, too.

Cheers Paul_cz, watched some of your vids and it is indeed quite stunning in parts, good work!. Grabbed the basic game installed and played through the first few missions/races and it's quite good fun.

Those screenshots look great, are you using any Sweetfx tweakage or just running it at 4k ?

Glad you are liking it, note that the game is at its worst in the beginning, because Detroit is the most ugly city in america (in real life and in game) and the starting cars kinda suck. I recommend trying to get Skyline as soon as possible, love that car. Also, it is good to have some friends in Crew on uplay, since once you unlock faction missions, you are able to send friends "virtually" to do them (they dont have to actually do anything irl) which gets you some free money. Crew subreddit is good for that. You can also add me, Paul_cz

The screens are taken in 1080p without any mods or sweetfx, but the game has an awesome photo mode where you can play with colors, focus blur, camera movement etc.

This game is quite badass, all right. Not perfect by any means but I love open world racers as well and the map is just amazing. I've always wanted to be able to roam a scaled down version of the US.

It gives off some incredibly old-school arcade vibes, feels like a massive open-world Outrun spin-off.

The handling's quite bad, especially drifting, bu they've nailed the feel of my Camaro in that it just refuses to turn:p

The graphics look very nice at times but I still have some weird stuttering/slowdowns which are really annoying.

I thought a GTX 970 at 1440p should cut it?

970 can handle 1080p at 60fps with all maxed except shadows (use high instead of PCSS) and antialiasing (use FXAA instead of TXAA).

1070 can handle 1080p at 60fps with all maxed out including 4x TXAA and PCSS shadows. But if I push it to 1440p, in some forrested areas framerate drops under 60 so I would have to switch to FXAA.

But TXAA looks so good, makes the image so stable with no shimmer, that 1080p suffices for me.

I like the handling with both wheel and controller on hardcore preset. But definitely it is still arcade, Dirt Rally has much more realistic physics.

Yeah, I have shadows on High and FXAA, it's mosty smooth at 1440p but there are areas with slowdowns/stutters (and there'll probably be a lot of them since the map is so huge), which is rather distracting. Wanted to drop the res to 1080p but it stretches out the image for some weird reason. It doesn't happen in other games. The requirements are a bit too high for how it looks:p

About the handling, I don't mind it being arcade in such a game. I love arcade racers but it's more about the fact that the handling feels somewhat weird and unresponsive. I can definitely get used to it and it's probably because my car is utter cack at this point in the game.

Took a cruise yesterday from LA to NY, trying out various cars along the way.

Dammit so fun just driving. More companies need to make games like this dammit.

Hmm not sure what the issue with resolution stretching might be, haven't experienced that.
Yeah the starting cars kinda suck and upgrades add a lot. I recommend getting that Skyline soon.

Really fun game, I got used to the handling quickly and now like it. Just cruising between cities and looking at all the scenery feels great.

The stuttering drives me mad though, drops into 40-50fps in densely forested areas feel like drops into 20s:( I might have to put off playing it till I get a new card. Really hoped the 1070 wouldn't turn out to be much more expensive than the 970:mad:

EDIT: Cool video

Yeah the 1070 price sucks. I decided to sell 970 and get it, but..yeah. Too bad AMD just doesn't compete so nVidia can dictate the prices.

The tone certainly has changed in here! It's really great to finally see appreciation for this fantastic game.

I couldn't agree more!
