The Dell 3008WFP Thread

Update:

Contacted Dell again to see about when they will deliver a new replacement unit

They said ........

Drum Roll .......

JULY

I asked are you taking the *oi no swearing!*? or trying to be funny ?

So its going back to OCuk for replacement

My Rev A01 is perfect, I have a Spyder3 Pro coming tomorrow to calibrate it properly but looks perfect no back light bleed or bezel bleed.

The Dell warranty is good as far as I know they are the only manufacturer that collect and replace on-site, most collect repair and return or it's a return to base job.

@anyone who has 3008

i was wondering what is the reported lag like when playing games and blurring like? How accurate are the whites? do they have pinkish/red tone or a bluish one?

i have a 3007-HC and was considering selling up and buying the 3008, worth it or not?

reason is that, the HC i have has slighting pinkish whites, no matter what colour profile i set up and starting to get tired of it. I have been through 4 of these monitors and its the same every time.

thanks

You definitley get a little lag running games in non native res , exactly how much I do not know , but Iam still fragging ok

As for buying one , I would say a resounding NO

Currently I am on my 3 rd brand new unit , and it still has light bleed at the top left.

After looking at each of the monitors in turn I can say that there is a design / production fault with this line of monitors.
It comes from the fact that the front part of the cover that goes around the edge of the screen is bonded to another part at the top of the screen.
This bonding is NOT uniform ( you can check by looking along the top of the screen from one of the sides - I see a couple of uneven areas where the light problem is coming from )

Eventually they will sort this out ( their design team probably are working on the solution for this) , but until then I would say no to getting one.

Lol i address all this is my longgg review on the first page, the very first post! Even have pics of it.

Seems to be a risk buying one at the moment, could have the problems wombraider has had.

I've not had any of these problems though (well, some very tiny backlight bleed at the top, but it's nothing), and i've very happy with my 3008, so just comes down to luck... but after buying many LCD's over the years i've found a bit of luck is always involved when it comes to backlight bleed. Although the 3008 currently suffers from this more than most it seems. But the 3007 also had this at first, but that improved later on, so i expect the same to happen with the 3008.

Decided to return mine now as the screen seems to have come loose from the bezel, you can pop it in and out of position and can clearly see the back light flood through. Initially refused a replacement from their service centre and agreed to wait upto 50 days for a new replacement

Anyway later that day i get a call from a manager to say and i quote "bad news, I'm afraid but we aren't making any new ones at all" When pressed he said Dell were EOL the 30" range due to a supply problem with panel glass

I was then offered a refund or a service replacement, i went for the replacement on the condition that should that still be at fault I could still get the refund, which was agreed.

Great service tbh but i'm a little shocked to hear that's the end of the Dell 30" series

LOAM

Thats crazy, they have not been out long at all. I noticed Dell US site took them off there site a while ago. Thought it was just down to panel glass supply, and they'd have them back up again. Cant believe they have actually ended the 3008...

No more 3008WFP's? mine is rev A01 and works pefectly although it's my second replacement. LOAM you need to check I reckon rev A00's are all refurbs and have inherent defects bad bezels pixels out which Dell seems to use as the refurb / replacement stock.

I'm not overly happy that if this unit is EOL my warranty is pretty much useless

The 3 that I got were all BRAND new units

All 3 were revision A01
and

All 3 had the light bleed issue , all 3 had a common issue with light bleed left of top center ( first unit had light bleed in corners as well )

Its a pity I will have to return it for refund , the light bleed is really noticeable in
low light late evening style gaming sessions.

Going to take a look at other 27"-30" offerings

Oh well may stick with my 2405 now then. I really wanted the 3008WFP for the connectivity it had. I know the 2408 has the same connectivity but I already have a perfectly good 24" screen. Well some money saved there I guess.

yeah will do, tbh ive nothing to loose atm as they said (in writing) that I can go for a refund if im not 100% happy with the replacement, I was looking at the NEC but its a tad pricey and i'm not sure but is it not just the same panel ?

One thing is for certain though I simply cant go back to not having a 30", it makes my work so much easier, Gutted to be honest. :(

The new LG looks nice and usually sold a decent prices, it's the only other 30" I can see that compete spec for spec with the 3008WFP

http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/news_archive/11.htm#lg_w3000h

"LG have released details of their new 30"WS monitor, the W3000H. The new model will offer a 2560 x 1600 resolution along with a 5ms G2G response time, 3000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 115% NTSC colour gamut and 178/178 viewing angles. The W3000H offers tilt, rotate and swivel ergonomic adjustments from the stand, comes with an integrated 2 port USB hub, and features with a dual-link DVI interface (HDCP supported). The W3000H should be available at the end of April and is expected to retail for €1699 (Euroes) or around £1154 GBP."

From recollection the Dell 3008 uses an LG panel, depending on the outcome of this exchange next week you may well have found my next choice :D
