The Dell 3008WFP Thread

Well I packaged mine up this evening and I will get it shipped back to OCuk tomorrow morning.

After having 3 brand new units of the latest version of this screen with pretty much identical faults I am taking my money and running.

I will miss the extra screen size tho , playing IL2 @ 2560 x 1600 with all settings maxed using a trackir was amazing.

Mine arrived today (A01) - absolutely awesome.
It does have this clicking in thing in the top bit of the screen with the associated backlight bleed though. Its like the panel is too big for the housing or something so its slightly bending. You can't tell its there though unless you look at a black screen in a dark room.

Bad luck copsey , another faulty 3008 :-(
It wouldnt be so bad if these were cheap units but at nearly 1300 quid you do
expect it to be fault free.

Best of luck trying to get a 100% light bleed free unit , the odds arnt good

Well, i'm going to keep it. Its beautiful once you stop peering at it in a dark room. I want it for photography in a lit room and it excels at that. The only way of telling its faulty is to push the panel and, well, i won't do that.

But I agree, annoying for the money (but wasn't 1300, was more like 1000).

I'm even more confused now tbh, mine was due for collection today but i got a call from Dell yesterday to say they don't have ANY stock at all now and wont be able to replace it this week, The chap then went on to say that they were getting new stock in next week and when asked he said it was brand new stock, not refurbed.

I'm at the point now whereby i simply cant go back to not having a 30" screen and if I'm honest i would rather have a less than perfect 3008 than no 30" at all. I really don't want to have to spend a further £500 on the NEC and the alternatives seem to be rarer than hens teeth.

Despite an imaginary stock level of 10+ being shown, you would find the NEC to be far rarer than hens teeth if you tried to buy one :(

Agree entirely with you. The bleed is only a problem in a dark room when the background is dark. For photo editing its stunning, and I can live with the shortcomings for that alone :)

just got my replacement this lunch time, ill let you know later once at home if theres any improvement, It is a revision A01 but its got a made in China sticker on it rather than the Made in the czech republic the the other one had.

OK, as above got my replacement yesterday and used it at work for the afternoon, as soon as it was switched on i could tell the difference, the whole screen looked totally different to the other one, no dead pixels, blacks were so much blacker and using MR.B set up from page one no longer left it looking to green (although ive discovered im rather green sensitive). Was difficult to check back light bleed in the office because of how bright the office is.

Upon getting it home, setting it up and waiting for the light level to drop you can see some really small zones (two) of bleed but they are tiny. the blacks again are much closer to the the blacks displayed on the 2007 that i have next to it.
So overall I'm a happy chappy for now.

LOAM

Oh and yes it was a "refurbed" model but it was visually absolutely spotless in every department, there wasn't even a mark on either of the dvi connectors and i question if it had ever even been used to be honest, to top it all off they had included a set of Dual link DVI cables and HDMI cables in the box as well even though they told me NOT to return any cables at all.

Well, a month or so in and I'm still loving it. With the old 2405 in portrait orientation to the left of it, ultramon running to tweak the spatial orientation between them and put different backgrounds on each desktop, and both calibrated with a spyder 3 its a photo editing dream.

And unreal tournament runs at full spec and full res no problems. Rocking.

Gah, with all the options i have for my next system.. the monitor was the ONE thing I thought "ahhhh nice and easy, i'll get the 3008WFP"... but no........ :'(

Looking at the 30" NEC now.. considerably more expensive... and i cant see any reviews apart from the Trustedreviews one (which doesn't really mention gaming performance) :S

Just to let you know, these monitors have started to come back into stock. I've just bought one from a competitor - it's an A01 revision, built in the Czech Republic and has no backlight bleed.

I use it both with my PC and with an Xbox 360 connected via HDMI and both look great.

Unfortunately, the monitor needs a monster graphics card to run at native res. Even an 8800gtx can't run BF2 and WoW at 2560 x 1600 with maximum AA, smoothly. Am I going to see a massive improvement with a new ATI 4870 or Nvidia GTX 280?

Do you mean 16x AA when you say max AA? as thats the most cards support at the moment... and you cant run most new games with maximum AA (16x) at 1920x1200 or even 1650x1080.

No one in there right mind should use 16x AA unless on old games.... 'cause pretty much any new game will run bad with that high level of AA.

But my GTX 280 will run every game i've tried so far, apart from Crysis, at 2560x1600 on max settings with atleast 16x AF, and 2x AA.
Dont get anything with 512MB on it for this res though, it's not enough! see my thread here.
